How do you hit with the left hand finger? I always hit the body of the Darbuka too, so it makes 2 sounds.

all of these rolls are using the middle finger on one hand and ring finger on the other. Faisal Zedan has an excellent dvd which features slow motion footage of all the techniqes he uses. I highly recommend it.

Quick question: are you playing a Gawharet el Fan darbuka with a remo skin? Because I've been thinking about upgrading from Meinl to a GEF myself. What would you recommend? Also, nice teaching style.

Hello dave , thank you for sharing your knowledge with us , I would like to know that what kind is your darbuka ? Sombaty ? or mother of pearl , I would like to buy one darbuka like yours , thanks if you reply to me .
@DarbukaDave

kourosh genius This is an old darbuka, I am the third owner so I don't know who the maker is. It is aluminum shell with mother of pearl overlay, and it is sombaty size. If you are able to spend the money, I highly recommend El Arabi drums. They seem to be the best commonly available drums right now.

Thank you dave , I am a professional Musicla instruments maker from Iran , I am involoved with making Iranian TAR for more than 20 years , I saw www.arabinstruments.com and also www.darbukaplenat.com and disscussed with them about buying the best one , they both send darbuka from USA , and I can buy for a better price from a darbuka maker in Egypt , so El Arabi is in egypt ? An online shop ? A postal address ? I am pretty new in this issue , i do appreciate again your video , thank you .

You know, you're right! I never really played with sticks (other than tupan) so I am kind of out of the loop when it comes to the names of rudiments
@Lehmann108
@Lehmann108 6 лет назад
It's more of a drumline thing. You're play 8th note triplets against a 4/4 pulse but the first note of each triplet is two 16th notes. If you really want to play around with your time move the two 16th notes to the middle or last 8th note of each triplet. So, here's the triplet 1/8 1/8 1/8. You are playing 1/16 1/16 1/8 1/8. Try 1/8 1/16 1/16 1/8 or flip it round to 1/8 1/8 1/16 1/16. You get the idea!

I don't even know what fingers you are using. Everybody's videos are way to fast to see how the fingers move.

Heizenburg I was going to ask which fingers he's using during roll
@DarbukaDave
@DarbukaDave 6 лет назад
@rachel zendejas Hi! These are all straight right-left rolls with no fancy finger stuff. So the right hand is playing a regular tek (middle finger) and the left hand is playing a ka (ring finger). I hope that makes sense?
@derrik-bosse
@derrik-bosse 6 лет назад
The drum shouldn't be moving around so much when you play, but good otherwise
