Man, Daredevil is one of the few characters that has the most consistent amazing runs by great writers. One might think Dardevil is Marvel’s flagship character. Love it!
@@GoldenProxyyYeah, I was never interested in Thor, but by ways of Loki I got into it, and found out JMS has a Thor run, and it’s spectacular. Doing Simonson next, and then Aaron and Fraction. I read Immortal Hulk by Ewing and it just wasn’t for me.
I was just thinking about this recently. Except for a couple of mediocre stretches here and there, Daredevil has had the most consistently great writing for the past 40 years, since Frank Miller. Definitely the best writing for a Marvel character over the past 25 years.
Can’t argue with that. Reading them all from issue one I am struck with how DD is of its time and how the varied writers and artists pull him into human tragedies and moral struggles.
This is one I'll happily buy on reputation alone, despite not having read it. Looks like a good size to me too. I have a lot of "thicker than a snicker" books at this point and whilst I'm always very happy to be able to collect EVERYTHING in a run or event, gosh are those big boys hard to read.
This was my first dedicated jumping on run of Daredevil for me. I had no knowledge of Daredevil prior to Waid's run. I love this series and I'm surprised there were readers who were against it. It started off being fun and I like how much it pops. In fact, that's what worked for it, especially when you get to the darker stories. I had that sense of comfort and security with happy Murdock, that the rug gets pulled out from me and I was having a good time reading the bright and dark tones of the run. I highly recommend this run for brand new readers because I was the brand new reader back then. For omnibus size... I would prefer close to 1200 pages. War of the Realms Omnibus was at 1576 pages and I read the whole thing. It just wasn't fun for me to get through due to the weight of the book. I think the initial solicitation for Immortal Hulk omnibus was good. Then it got bigger and I decided to pass. Would have liked the split to two books.i kept my ohc of Immortal.
This might secretly be my favourite Daredevil run save perhaps for Bendis. Everything about it pops and is just so exciting and fun. Perfect superhero storytelling and a refreshing change of tone for the character.
I DO love the inner cover of the original first printing because this new printing looks like he slipped on a bathtub.... And your previous printing has a better Daredevil logo than the current version. Overall, I am HAPPY for another video of Daredevil omnibus whether an overview or breaking news! Thanks, Omar!!!
Called me out direct at the 4:15 mark, very excited to finally continue reading daredevil in chronological order, especially with one of my favorite writers in mark waid taking over on the book
Just finished reading this yesterday and it’s a different type of daredevil run, but definitely still distinctly very daredevil, once I got past all the crossovers I really got sucked into the story, Chris samnee’s art really wowed me also, can’t wait for volume 2
Got this preordered coming next week, really excited to dive into this run, as I have only read the latter half of it and never read any of these issues. Also thanks for the spoiler warning Omar, but I just muted you till the extras part. Honestly I actually prefer my omni's between 650 to 1100 pages I feel those are the best sizes and I actually wish they would do what they really seem to do with Daredevil alot is split some series into smaller sized omnibus' honestly.
7:35 - I am one of those people! The smaller sizes are easier for me to read and enjoy beyond how it great it looks on a shelf. Bought this digitally years ago, LOVED it, and am treating myself to both volumes as an upgrade. Thanks for the sneak peek, Omar!
Personally an Omni this size hits the sweet spot for me as I think books like Immortal Hulk and Blackest Night are a little too unwieldy. Yes to another Mega Print book! I think their omnis lay over really well. Still prefer the cover images on the front and back boards though. Thanks Omar!
Now I've seen the page count I've cancelled my preorders for both volumes. I agree there is an upper limit on page count when it comes to ease of reading but there's also a lower limit for me where the books become poor value for money. I'll buy this on sale or used for 20-30% less.
I was lucky enough to get the Hardcovers of Waid's run. And got him to sign them at a comic con a year ago. I was super happy to find out they're reprinting his omni run. Preordered my copy and patiently waiting for it to arrive
Oh and by the way, if you all want a suggestion for a cool comic, i suggest DAGO. It's an Argentinian-italian decennial comic and a channel just started to translate it in English a few days ago and it was NEVER translated, so if you want to try it ~ :) The RU-vid channel is something like EL RINCON DES LAS HISTORIETAS, but you'll find the first issue just by typing " Dago in English " :) REALLY recommend it, it talks about a 1500s' "italian" man enslaved by Ottomans and his journey through MENA as a slave-soldier and then through freedom. If you give it a try they'll probably continue translating it. Just a suggestionnnnn~°•
I really didn’t like this run, I thought the art was too pop art, I read this in a day and big shoulder shrug, pls return to bendis & Maleev which was really beautiful art
As always with DD, looks interesting storywise, but the art (for what I've seen) is just not for me. I'm one of those you mention who don't buy Omnibus. I'm afraid that if I'm reading in my bed and fall asleep it will fall on my head and kill me 😜 Thanks for the review!
Can’t wait to get this in! The perfect Omni size for me is around 1000 pages, that said I’m not very pick on that I’ve got Immortal Hulk and Death of Captain America in my collection and love them both!
Great art in this one ❤ I find it easy to read around a 800 page omni but i prefer buying the thick ones for value. The sponsors got left out in the end, its funny how my minds trained to expect them and JAPAN!! everytime 😂
They should have had Chris do both versions for the covers of these omnie reprints. I mean i'm not n executive, but that's a no brainer for me.. Maybe i should make a special like Trey and Matt just to vent a bit It's so stupid of people to just drop this series when waid and Samnee picked it up, for me, Samnee artwork is so enjoyable, so Kirby, Timm esque, how can you not love it.
Great video, Omar! Love the detail and really appreciated the ‘spoiler’ labelling. 👏 Ordered the variant cover but as I am only up to DD 122 (first Volume), I guess I won’t be reading this for a while! I prefer big Omnis - the spine looks better and Marvel have a habit of releasing oversized hardcovers first (I have the Waid 5) which generally have 12 issues a book and so a 20- issue Omni is just two of these together and doesn’t make much sense to me. I know that with Charles Soule’s run they dropped the Omni only (and it’s a wonderful book too) but with the other runs I have the H/Cs (including Zdarsky recently) so big Omnis get my vote!
7:40 / I like smaller books because from a reading point of view it just feels better and that's why I'm mostly going for TP if available but I get the whole omnibus thing too since it's collecting everything and that's good
