Pretty sure activating the equip ability targets so Horobi would have destroyed the targeted creatures

Yea, it was an unfortunate mistake. Most of us hadn't ever played against a Horobi deck sadly.

roxi used 2 equip abilities with Horobi in play? 8:55 that doesn't work. Equip is a targeted ability, isn't it? Horobi should have killed Alesha and the sire right away.

at 7:45 don't the creatures gain persist? so shouldn't they all be coming back under their owner's control rather than go to the graveyard?

No; unfortunately since the jar targets, Horobi's ability goes on the stack above the jar and destroys everything before they gain persist, so the jar's ability just fizzles. It's a really good/mean synergy depending on how you look at it.

8:53 Woah woah woah...how'd no one catch that? Especially the horobi player. Equipment TARGETS. meaning they die... I learned this the hard way: First time I ever saw horobi, I was stupid and forgot that my equipment targets. So my friend was looking at me...with my hapatra and whispersilk cloak. I noticed a smirk but since there was blockers, I was stupidly not thinking and said "equip whisper to my hapa..." and before I could finish my sentence. My friend playing horobi screams: "YES! And its dead." I was like what?? *facepalm* Never again...I learned my lesson.

It was fun seeing Daretti pop off. Josh should have discarded after his turn two sign in blood. He would have 8 cards in hand since he kept 7 and that was his first spell. I think I would have waited to see where attackers were declared before activating cauldron after the insurrection. If Harobi was coming at Josh, I would have just taken the 4 from it since he spent his entire next turn recasting it when he could have just gotten it back. At 9:04 Roxie couldn’t activate Alesha since Cursed Totem was in play. It’s been mentioned, but equipping triggers Harobi. On a side note, Josh should have activated Cauldron to target everything in response to the greaves equip if the first ruling was missed. I wish Xenagos got to do more, but the other decks all seemed interesting!

Josh really played the Horobi to deny pretty much any table action even if it wasn't going to hurt him. Kind of a pain, I think. Like, in response to Insurrection, wait to see where the creatures are going first before you kill all of them.

9:04 Should Roxy not be able to activate Alesha to return Orochi? She had Cursed Totem on her field which says "Acitvated anilities of creatures can't be activated" (as per Oracle on Gatherer). I didn't knew Cursed Totem and when she played it I read it and thought "why playing this since it shuts down Alesha activated ability?"

Activated abilities are not the same as Triggered abilities. Activated ones are represented usually by having a (COST) and then : Triggered typically are worded with "Whenever, When so and so enters" etc.

Just built a horobi deck, if anyone can answer; I bring back horobi from graveyard with dance of the dead and it enters tapped. I know that’s not an issue with its ability, but on upkeep if I want to untap it I believe that is an issue because it targets? Help is appreciated friends

At 7:36 Does the destory effect of Hirobi hit before the Persist from cauldron of souls? Why doesn't the persist work and bring everything back with a -1/-1 counter?

It destroys in response to the target. Since the ability hasn't resolved, only targetted, there is no persist when they are destroyed.

I almost threw up in disgust when I saw Hokori hitting the graveyard... Winter Orb is my most hated card in all of Magic, and Hokori is my most hated legendary creature because of it. I'm glad Alesha didn't win.

There was a immediate miss play at 3:25 to cause unlike the orb that lets one land untap hokori says no lands untap.

@@Draco9909 Their effects are different, but functionally similar for the most part. Winter Orb says that players can only untap one land during the untap step. Hokori allows no lands to untap during the untap step, but allows one land to untap at the beginning of the upkeep.
