Now, that's the kind of car interior I like. Big haptic buttons, every essential function in reach and mainly not having everything cramped in an unresponsive screen (right VW and Audi?). Great looking car. It's definitely going to challenge the premium German brands nicely! Love to see it
The new C Class from Mercedes is a big mess. BMW stands out of its german competitors, thanks to the iDrive system. The Genesis interior is also way better than Mercedes or Audi.
Fun fact: Last year, Mercedes were selling around 100 E-class sedans a day in Korea. Now, they’re selling about 60 cars a day after the facelifted model came out. (Jan-Nov 2021 Korean market cumulative sales 23,333 E-class, 16,600 BMW 5 series, 9,890 Audi A6 sedans, 9,200 S-class) Hyundai Genesis G80 sold 51,900, GV70 sold 33,700, GV80 sold 18,000, and G70 sold 6,390 units in the same period in Korea.

Stunning!Genesis is very much a brand to look out for.Mercedes-Benz make disco interiors now,BMW makes shocking styling outside,Genesis may just pull in these buyers now.They remind me very much of early Lexus cars,which is not a criticism.
Lol a Hyundai I doubt it. Consumers buy luxury brands for the badge and prestige. Why people avoid lexus same reason being associated with Toyota. Always seen as poormans car.
@@sleepyjoescumbag1663 I see what you are saying,but remember at one time Audi and BMW werent considered as good as a Mercedes-Benz either.Also look at years ago when people bought Citroen DS, Lancias and Volvo and Saabs too.Lexus do sell in decent numbers otherwise Toyota would have given up.I think the Genesis promise of excellent customer care and warranty will get people thinking.....
@Yule Calma no, I'm not. Genesis is clearly aming to get into the European market since they've decided to make a midsized shooting brake. The lower price and better ergonomics will trouble the Germans.
@@paullacey2999 Lexus don't sell in any numbers in Europe, despite being on the market for 30 years. I'm yet to see a Genesis on the Road, perhaps they've only sol a few dozen tops in the UK.
Love the design inside and out. The tactical, physical controls inside are a welcome addition that many in this segment has sadly moved away from. Love that everything is such high quality and a joy to touch. Really like what Genesis has done here.
I dunno about the rear section, Thomas. I’m getting flashbacks to the original Panamera rear end… Nice interior touches with clicks, dials and buttons! Ahhh, human interface that’s simple and oh so satisfying.
Really looks great from the outside as well as the inside ! Impressed by the nice traditional ergonomy and the built quality. Hmm... Citroën is not happy about the Polestar logo. What about Aston Martin with the one of Genesis ?
Exterior is not my favourite. I prefer German brands here, but I would take this interior over any German brand currently. The lack of capacitive buttons and high gloss surfaces is a winning combination. I think steel surfaces and high quality fingerprint resistant plastics is the way forward. At least it should be offered as an option by German manufacturers.
Beautiful car! I got a G70 3.3T Sport Prestige about a month ago, it is the best car ever! I haven't seen you review a 3.3T Sport Prestige, you need to! It's got the adaptive suspension, limited slip diff, and Brembo brakes which take the performance to another level!
GENESIS is astounding , style, performance and price. all they lack is the German logo on the hood. Most people I know wouldn't buy one because of the Hyundai Connection. Same as you can make same clothing or shoes, but the logo gets you the extra $$$ Cheers from Toronto
Nice but maybe 2 big questions for the buyers. Probably weigh in environmental considerations and life cycle costs in year 2022. With no considerations for environment or LCC. Don’t you in that case choose a premium ICE car from a “classic” car brand.
The best interior and ergonomics I have seen in modern times! This beats all German premium manufacturers. This is how I imagine the upper class. That gives me hope again. Personally, this model is too small for my purposes, but my E-Class will not be replaced with a German vehicle as it stands today. I won't accept touch controls in this price range - at least not as long as I don't drive fully autonomously.
Have to admit, very interested in what this car has to offer - more than the German brands current offerings despite their arguably better ride comfort. Could do with better rear seat space & boot layout. Thanks Thomas & co for the review.
it is a very nice car but I would get the GV70 instead of this, there is almost no price difference for the 4 wheel drive models. Maybe G70 can be appealing at the lowest price range, with rear wheel drive.
I absolutely love your style of making a video. it is very informative to the point ,funny little jokes in between. and P.S we Have to get this wagon to the states. All credit to Genesis for taking on the established players at their own game, but from the C-pillar back I am sorry to say, but it's a mess! There's no cohesiveness whatsoever! Otherwise not a bad effort! Btw, love the channel Mr Thomas!
I agree, I prefer the sedan version. I think part of the problem is that the current G70 is just a front/rear facelift over the previous version without the split headlights. The next generation might do better since it will be intended for the G-Matrix design language from day one.
Wish we got the wagon in the states! 😭😭😭 perfect car Edit: wow, didn't know you guys didn't get the 3.3t in the shooting brake! That would've made this car an absolute unit! These car companies just know how to ruin the fun 🤣🤣
Great review! Great looking coastal roads. I prefer the sedan. Really love it. Suspension easily modified. Worth it in my opinion. Great warranty, options, price!!
Thomas - is this car coming to America? It definitely competes with Audi A4 allroad (wish they hadn't made that gate opening curved & dropped floor kind of weird ). The motor sounds kind of crude but everything else makes it a possible. The overhead sunglasses storage and jacket hook is straight off the Audi. I also like the T handle selector on the console vs. the "dial" thing they so in the "V" cars - more to like here. The Shooting Brake is the way to go vs. the too common too humpy dumpy crossover in my book.
Nice car in a nice region. I like the Genesis quality, is their card to get expected results in Europe. Is it me or your cameraman lost some weight? :p
@@sic22l they were at IAA München this year with a strong presence and the interest in their cars was high. So I think they will sell in the future more than 10 to be honest, as they have a great line up. Time will tell.
Love the design and quality of the entire Genesis lineup and the fact that it's NOT the German premium segment. However, the European market is just an afterthought for the brand. This is made clear by the engine options which is just not a challenge to the Germans - or even Volvo - at all. Also, boot space of both G70 and 80 is no match for the competition. Or maybe they are planning for the EV era and not investing in ICE's? We'll see.
The latter is true, I read an article (I think on road&track but not 100% positive) that said that they will release only EV’s after 2025 and that all of their ice models will be phased out from 2030
It would dominate the segment by price, except EU barriers to entry protect EU makers in EU markets. By far the best value away from EU market barriers.
Ugh, I wish this would come to the USA. I dont understand why anyone shopping for any car would buy a sedan over a hatch or wagon. Please Genesis let this come. Though totally out of my price point so maybe I should be quiet.
