Nope - not in depth - you didn't show us the boot AT ALL, and nor did you mention that all those other German sedans have folding seats, whereas the G80 doesn't.
I m korean, We usually call chauffeurs as 'Gimgisa' 김기사 or driver Kim(common surname). Gisa means driver. Btw, hyundai has come a long way to have their cars reviewed in autogefuhl! I m really proud
@@autogefuehl I've also waited a long time for this, as I'm thinking of getting a Genesis next. Thomas will you also review the GV70? A very sexy SUV, as I think. Thumbs up for your inspiring content!
Your attention to details like the sound when you touch the wood, the feel of the switch, the sound of the electric motors and every tiny feature like you read the owners manual it’s amazing and something most automotive journalist doesn’t have.

@@axelfiraxa I think its normal for koreans who speak english to have english names. In fact, for most asian countries i guess cause its hard to pronounce asian names in english lol
Geeez...never thought the Genesis will make it through Mr Thomas!! This brand came from long way back in such short time and then gets the approval from Mr Thomas!!! Unbelievable!!!!👌👌👌
Same, the car is absolutely stunning, styling focus of the G70, G80 and G90 reminds me of the coherence BMW had with the E46, E39 and E38. I hope other manufacturers relearn this importance from Genesis, and that Genesis succeeds in europe.
You’re definitely one of my favorite reviewers. You just explain things well and the videos all end up bringing a calming sensation like a ASMR video. Keep up the good work!
I'm an owner of the previous generation and I'm impressed to see how Genesis has improved the style while keeping the quality and value. My favorite trait is how heavy everything makes the car feel substantial and heavy, from really well-tuned steering to a deep door closing sound. And the torque vectoring AWD system is quite good, you can send almost all the power to the rear and disable both traction and stability control.
Great review. Loving the “tone” of recent output too. Don’t know if it’s deliberate but you’re striking the perfect balance between delivering information and entertainment.
You'd be surprised. The quality is so good now, they are up there with the class leaders and the great warranties also make them an easy sell to older folk. My Nan bought a new Hyundai and said that with the 5 year warranty it would last her out....
@@rickcastellione2267 As a Korean it was common in the 90’s & early 2000’s to associate Korean cars with subpar quality. They had a late start to vehicle manufacturing (only since the mid 80’s for mass production). But just like the country, cars too have exponentially improved in a short period of time. But Genesis is still new so I anticipate another 10-15 years before it’s solidified as the same as Lexus, BMW, Benz without anyone even questioning it.
I’m waiting for my GV70 launch edition. I personally think it’s the best of the current designs (inside/out). I live in the states and I’d love to get the wagon, but we don’t get it (you guys are lucky enough to get it tho). Lucky!
@@ajtam05 Yes, very much so. I think that the Korean car-manufacture journey is following a similar path to what the Japanese experienced a couple of decades earlier. And the Chinese are now starting to experience a similar journey (from economic so-so cars to good ones). However, selling a premium Korean or Japanese car in Europe is more difficult than in the US, because the Europeans are generally very traditional in this segment, and tend to prefer the Mercedes, Audi and BMW badges. Much more so than Americans.
Greetings from South Korea! I never thought I'd see Thomas speak so highly of a Korean car. His stinger review from way back made it pretty clear that he's not an easy man to impress when it comes to cars.
Love the design inside ad out. Bespoke and elegant. No piano black plastic inside is refreshing and un-German like. Actual hard buttons is Appreciated as well. Love the steering wheel. A refreshing take on luxury that isn't all about having you teeth rattle loose while driving. Proper luxury offering.
I love the old school steering wheel from one point of view. If you look at the climate control unit, it looks like old school radio with two turning knobs... And together for me it fits perfectly.
I dont mind genesis steering Cause it looks different for every model and it color codes the interior Whereas in the germans they all use the same steering wheel design ( especially bmw where you can find an m sport steering from a m760li in a 2i8i)
Thomas, again another great review. You are the best video reviewer for higher performance cars. Love your work! (I do the same in audio). I have a 18 G80 5.0 and it is far better than the Mercedes E class.
the greatest hurdle in the way of that would be the engine. 2.5t is both too small and too inefficient for this size of car, and the bigger engines get quite expensive i believe.
@@AI-qd4vb yes. you can get a new 6 cylinder diesel 530d (fantastic engine) for about 44-50k. according to this video the 4 cylinder genesis will cost over 50k.
I observe also korean/asian reviews of cars and Genesis is next level brand in so many aspects. 5-7 years and they will easily compete with BIG 3 (A + B + M). BTW Thomas, great review !
I love the car and intend to buy one. The one important element of this car that cannot be appreciated by Thomas's review is the inherent reliability of the Genesis. This will be a far more reliable car than its German competitors. I own a 2009 Genesis and after 100,000 miles it has not needed a single repair. Only tires and batteries. It is a fabulously reliable car. I don't like the steering wheel though and think they could have done a better job with the wheel choice.
A really nice car.. better thant a lot of high brand, and the DS9 ( even if it s beautiful) saw yesterday, looks older than the genesis. Nice Video as usual, Mr Thomas is a true car lover.
SAW ONE OF THESE ON THE STREET IN NYC. LOOKED GOOD FROM THE BACK, ALONG THE SIDES, THE HEADLIGHTS... ...THEN BAM! THAT GRILLE JUST RUINS THE FRONT END. BEAUTIFUL INTERIOR THOUGH.
Hey Thomas thank you for bringing this beautiful car it really have a wonderful design and I wasn't expecting this level of quality and smoothness amazing.
I like the steering wheel, yes it looks old school, hence more luxury focused. Which seams fitting as it's not a sports car, also more ways to grab it comfortably.
Nice review as always Thomas. I agree with you on the steering wheel. Very attractive auto. Genesis is really raising the bar and I expect the build quality with probably surpass the Germans. One thing, I would like to know the interior DB sound at various speeds. Thank you. Jim 👍
I think the front looks beautiful, too. With the rear, if I were to own this car, I would remove the Genesis lettering and replace it with a Genesis badge. I think that would look much better. Not a big fan of this new trend where they put the name of the car underneath the rear end badge.
yep, E-Class looks like a corolla with a fake Mercedes badge next to it. Mercedes , BMW and Audi need to go back to their great design philosophies, which was 1980s for mercedes, 1990s for bmw and 2000s for Audi. Genesis is the king of the 2020s.
Brilliant review Thomas! Really appreciate the fact that the manufacturers are now willing to provide animal friendly seating ...credit for this goes to you too :)
The styling is classic really, kinda reminds me of what Lexus did when they launched their LS line and dominated the competition back in the late 1980's
Star Trek reference yesterday, Star Wars today - nerds rejoice!! Apart from the steering wheel, really impressed with this. Do you think they will have a market in the EU/Uk compared to the more traditional offerings? I miss the 'Let's go!" at the start of the videos.
Add me to the very short list of people who like/don’t mind the steering wheel. I’ve been looking for a new car/suv for a while now. We have owned several BMW’s so I’ve been looking at a lot of German cars, but I keep coming back to the G80 and GV80.
This looks remarkably similar to my 2012 Lexus GS 450h. Things like the wood inserts, padding beside the seats to keep you from losing things, large horizontal display, rear sunshades, buttons on the front left seat etc. are also in the GS. They even copied the gloss black parts on the outside of the doors, which is a bad decision because they're fingerprint magnets. The movable rear seats, Apple carplay and remote parking show that this is a much newer car though. The petrol engines are similar as well: the GS is also available with 2.5 liter 4-cylinder (GS 300h) or 3.5 liter V6 (GS 450h) but since they're hybrids they're a bit more powerful and definitely more fuel efficient. All in all I think an electric G80 could be an interesting alternative when I need to replace my GS in, say, 5 or 10 years from now.
Hi Thomas! I agree with you about the steering wheel design: sophisticated, but old school. New GV70 suv comes with a way nicer steering wheel in the “sport” trim, so maybe they’re going to offer that design also in this G80
Ja The G80 achieves what the Bentley also does. It gives you a more of a Yacht feeling than sitting in a car. The swooping exterieur lines as well as the nice upholstered intereur. I really approve of this car. The 3.5l V6 is on my to buy list.
I think the steering wheel has a suitably classy design, I also think if they are trying to launch genesis in Europe they should go full electric and really stand out otherwise it will always be a top of the range Hyundai... Do you know about the UK market?
Cool the se Hyundai step up their game and bring some good competition and innovation to the game:-) About the steering wheel: I agree. Not the best look. Other than that, beautiful interior. Love that you can see the blind spots in the instrument cluster when you change lanes!
For me the steering wheel I agree, looks 'old school', but in a classy way. The whole package looks very nice. Good competitive alternative to the traditional European manufacturers.
Truly a beautiful car. Wished they had some luxurious cloth or other fabric options for the interior besides the animal hide. Would love to see the EV version Tomas! Loved the review, and as always great work and production! Cheers!
Thomas reviews 'Like a customer'. Not a journalist. That is why we relate so much to Autogefühl reviews. Have been eyeing the Genesis before it even broke off into it's own brand. Not a merc guy. It comes so close that I have to think about it instead of the BMW's. In a few years German diehards will tip over.
