As a big fan of the Darius series of games, I've shied away from tackling Darius 2 arcade in the past for a couple reasons.
First, the game has a reputation of being unfairly balanced against the player. Due to losing literally everything (all weapon / bomb / shield levels) on death, dying at almost any point in the game is essentially a game over unless you're just starting or near the end of the game. Also, the cabinet at the local arcade isn't equipped with autofire. I feel auto is essential for enjoying this game, and helps counteract the balance issue a bit.
I finally convinced myself that I wanted to play this game and not worry about what people think about using autofire. Full 30Hz auto is in the "Cozmic Collection" Darius II console port of the game, so I feel vindicated. :)
All that being said - I did enjoy breaking down Darius 2 and eventually getting the clear on it. As usual, the OST by ZUNTATA has some sweet tracks. The final stage starting off completely silent and then going into it's frenzied pace is awesome.
I'll be attempting to 1-credit / 1CC G-Darius soon, after a couple of other games I would like prioritize. It's the last of the main series of Darius arcade games that I haven't beaten yet (unless you count the "official hack" Darius Gaiden Extra).

Congrats on the clear, run looked quite solid ! This game is doable without auto but is sure much harder. I've done a few clears with 5hz for the challenge (the Yamato fight gets much spicier), but aside from that I've only seen a handfull of clears without any auto. For what it's worth the PCB comes with an autofire dipswitch at 12hz, considering the difficulty of the game maybe you can convice the guys at GG to turn it on haha

thank you very much! I don't think I'd have much luck trying to get the GGA owner to set the dips to anything other than default, but I can always ask... I saw you were on the recent STG Weekly covering this game, that's awesome - I'll definitely check the episode out soon!

​ @Pete_Hahn Considering the difficulty of the game without auto maybe an exception can be made. I heard no one cleared it yet over there, but I'm not sure. If you need some inspiration I've cleared the game in default difficulty with a 5hz autofire (which is easy to replicate on a cab), it's definetely possible : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tsi5d8lsvC4.html

Nice run and nothing wrong with auto fire all cabs in japan have them with diffrent Frequencies. shame mame still have the sound issues maybe one day it will get fixed.

thank you! Re: autofire - I agree...especially for Darius 2, by that year it would be hard to find a cab without auto on this game. I didn't know mame had sound issues with Darius 2 but it makes sense. I tried a quick game on the Switch "Cozmic Collection" port and some of the explosions sounded different right away.
