The “toy train” of DHR has gotten substantially faster with the induction of the new and powerful diesel locomotives. I still remember the old steam engines used to struggle to pull 3 coaches up these slopes.
Thank you for the video showcasing zig-zag mountain route, which helps in gaining height without gaining distance....this concept was also used in the last century on broad gauge railway routes between Mumbai (Bombay) and Pune (Poona) / Igatpuri via Western Ghats (GIP Railway), before electrification arrived in 1928-31.
A truly brilliant and futuristic - yet SIMPLE - way of gaining altitude in abnormally short distances without (unnecessarily) laying mile upon mile of circular railway track in mountainous areas! ☺☺☺👍👍👍
Awesome, been to Darjeeling soo many times but never knew this technique. This must be the train from NJP to Darjeeling, that's why I haven't seen such mechanism in all of my visits to Darjeeling. Awesome video once again, thank you☺❤💖💖
This is much simpler done with the DMUs. Most preferably old Japanese KiHa. Because when you reverse without shunting, you can't see what is in front of the cars coupled ahead of you.
They need to run with battery. Keep a battery charging station on the way while travellers enjoying the nature. Run partially with power and charge some distance and rest with battery. Avoid pollution Demonstrate our technology capability
You may need to redesign the entire train to come with low weight and more passengers... The route partially can be electrified and hooked to run on power as well charge batteries to use the rest of the route where there is no power line...
@Hell Fire3 yes that's why rack and pinion gear traction system is Used in the Nilgiri mountain railway, from the Mettupalayam to the coonnor section, at steep terrain only
No, it was closed due to landslide and absence of no tracks only Darjeeling - Ghum toy train was operational. Your video mentioned NJP passed hence asked whether the services resumed or not!
