If you haven't read "Spinning Silver" by Naomi Novik, get yourself a copy. It's got a mix of Jewish and Slavic traditions, with story elements of several different fairy tales. It also contains scads of Women Being Awesome. It's my current favorite book.
Yes to more lookbook videos, yes to book chat videos. =) You could even do looks inspired by favorite books/books you're reading. Also, seeing your copy of Holly Black's Book of Night reminded me that I have that book and still need to read it.
I loved this video! I thought you did a great job at describing the pieces, styling them and kind of explaining why you think it's dark academia. I'd love it if you did more :)
East by Edith Pattou is a book I’ve read nearly every year for the last 15+ years. It’s based on East of the Sun West of the Moon scandi faerie tale. It’s SO beautifully told (even though it’s YA fiction, I still vastly prefer YA) and set in a perfect Northern winter landscape. I recommend for this winter!! I loved the way you styled everything - that peach top with the pants is so beautiful. I love your channel! Can’t wait to see more of what you bring this Autumn :)
If you ever decided to throw in a video about you talking about books, I would totally be here for it! I love all the Naomi Novak books, starting with His Majesty’s Dragon
So cute! I'm so excited for the weather to be more mild and crisp! It has been a bit more fall weather where I live, however I KNOW it's going to get unbearable again after a couple days so it is like a small taste of fall weather.
Oh! Babel by RF Kuang is the best thing I've read all year. (It ruined my life lol) it's based in an alternate Oxford and dark academia at its very core with critiques about biases in academia etc it's so good
I’m trying to find more plus size friendly places to collab with! Unfortunately the brands that reach out to me are more straight size so it’s just taking a bit more time/research on my end but they will happen!
The blouses are so pretty! Have to look into the store when I have a little money to spend. I always look for nice cotton blouses when thrifting and never found any that fit well, so maybe investing in really nice ones that'll hopefully fit well and last a long time is a good idea, I think. I'm down for more styling content! The look book in the end was great!
Love those details on the blouses. It was a lovely video and definitely got me in the fall mood, which for me means finding a sweater vest to knit for my wardrobe, and maybe a pirate shirt.
An interesting fact about wool blend items - if it's a high enough percentage of nylon/acrylic or other fiber, you won't get moth damage. I have many pure wool items, but find if they are a blend they don't get holes like the 100% wool items do. I protect my wools with cedar blocks in the (cedar lined) drawers, but sometimes one will get through if it's not secured right away. So, a little "other" fiber can really protect your sweaters over time.
Super cute! And thank you for answering comments on plus size! You are really good about that! The only thought that may help while you are on the hunt for size inclusive brands to work with, if you could mention in your brand intro if they are size inclusive, that would be amazing :) if I find good brands that seem like a nice option I'll let you know :)
1. Would LOVE to hear your reading list! 2. If you haven't read it, A Lesson in Vengeance by Victoria Lee is a great spooky dark academia read. 3. That dress looks SO GOOD on you.
Super cute outfits! Dark academia is a ~vibe~ and I love it. Also.. where'd you get those wonderful heeled boots from the first look in the lookbook?!? I'm a sucker for a heeled boot.
Oh, I guess something that I would have liked to see was a closer look at construction of the garments as opposed to fashion details. (But this might just be because idk how much my style overlaps with yours.... show pockets annoy me so much on principle 😂)
@@moth.faerie Mmm, I'm realizing now that what I was hoping for is fundamentally impossible for online shopping. I've returned a ton of cute blouses because of the combination of the fabric and the overlock seam because my skin can't handle it. But since the fabric is likely the culprit (and there is so much variation even in 100% cotton), there's basically nothing I can do but trial and error. Thank you for the reply though!
Very cute. Love the looks, the first blouse specifically. Straight up my alley on that one. Also, I'm currently reading Daughter of Sparta. Just started it, but so far so good.
These outfits are so pretty! You styled them so well, especially the pink top. I adore it with the sweater and light skirt. It's a shame the brand isn't size inclusive, but that's pretty typical.
Very nice video. I would love for you to explore brands that are more size inclusive. Dark Academia is totally my jam, but alas, I am a tad fluffier than you, so this brand would literally not be a good fit for me. Too bad they tick off all the other boxes for my clothing and style requirements.
Yes, definitely looking for my size inclusive brands to reach out to! When brands reach out to me, if I like their stuff I don’t want to turn them down, but they’re not necessarily self selecting for size inclusivity if that long run on sentence makes sense 😅
If you wanted to go the full academia for the dress, just pair it with a brown, orange, or black turtleneck sweater. Maybe add a few find gold chains or a set of pearls. Pair it with the jacket for a 'dipping out to the library before meeting up for a coffee date'. Good haul. Well done. The brand is great. I wish I was in their size range. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
@@moth.faerie I can see why they would start with a limited size range when they're just beginning a business. They're still figuring out supply line and distribution issues at this point. They seem like a responsive bunch, so it's probably just a matter of time before they expand the size range for the line. Plus sizes all come down to what style of block was used for the bodice and how close that is to your reality. We're all chubby in our own special ways... I love that 40's shirt. So on point...
I see that book bag you’re carrying! Are you a fairyloot subscriber?? I love all things books and would love to know more about your books. I read ninth house a little over a year ago and absolutely loved it! Such a good autumn read!
I loved all the pieces, particularly the cardigan, it looks lovely and delicate. I really enjoyed the lookbook at the end too. I've got Ninth House on my autumn to read pile as well actually, though not started it yet - I'm currently reading Deeplight by Francis Hardinge, which leans more into cthulu-esque territory than dark academia maybe but is so far very enjoyable!
I'm pretty sure I've seen this brand's ads on instagram, but it always looked very fast fashion to me, haha. Based on this video, I feel like you have to definitely have a particular figure to be able to wear their stuff comfortably. For example, I do think that the shirt is pretty cute, but I don't see any bust darts on the side, so I imagine I'd have to size up a bit and then tailor it down... which is just too much of a hassle for a piece like that. I also have a more dramatic waist to hip ratio, so I can't imagine the pants would fit much better. I did like the lookbook even though I can't say my interest in purchasing anything from the brand has increased 😅
The shirts are pretty boxy so I don’t think sizing up would be necessary, I’m just going to wear them with high waisted skirts and pants which is what I’d do anyways. I have a 15” difference between waist and hip if that helps at all
i LOVED all these pieces and the ways you styled them!!! urrrghhh some of those look loli-able (for lolita of various styles--probably mostly classic, but i love classic style T.T) >.
I think you would LOVE and want to create outfits inspired by Eva Evergreen:Semi Magical Witch by Julie Abe. It is the most darling cosy and cottage core book ever- sweet witch- think Kikis Delivery Service but she has to set up a magic potions shop and help all the villagers. It’s middle grade but me a grown adult loved it.
Have you read The Language of Thorns? It's my favourite Leigh Bardugo book and I've read all her books so far except for The Severed Moon (and idk if that would count anyway since it's a journal more than a book) and no one seems to have read TLOT really which is a big shame.
I picked up The Language of Thorns because I liked the cover (I can't get over how gorgeous that cover is) - it's the only Leigh Bardugo book I've read so far. Loved it. I haven't gotten around to reading any of her other books yet, but I did perk up when the video mentioned her name. 😃
@@beckieleung4814 Ninth House I'd say is her most divisive book. If you're looking to continue with LB. Personally I really disliked it (and I enjoy dark academia so idk what didn't work for me) but loads of people love it. Six of Crows is universally adored and The Grisha Trilogy is a little more divided but pretty well-liked as simple early 2010s YA (I adore it) and the sequel series to both of those sucks except for one storyline which doesn't.
I was looking at this brand a couple months ago wondering if it was legit (ie not made in a sweatshop in china). It totally looks good! I'm really considering getting one of their white blouses since they're 100% cotton. I really like the white cardigan too but alas the polyesters. Thanks for the video ^-^
I'm still suspicious 🤔 just because it's so easy to hide where fabrics come from. You can just claim they are whatever and say they came from wherever (see the recent Brandy Melville documentary). Me vetting the company is what brought me to this video. Since it's been a year now, if you ended up purchasing items, please do tell what you thought of the overall quality like the stitching and such. Thanks :)
This is entirely random but are you a Taurus? I ask because I read somewhere that Tauruses either have elegant long swan necks or short sturdy ones, and I am definitely in that latter camp. And this is the first time I've ever heard anyone also talk about having a short neck.
The white blouses are 100000% my style, and I want to buy them, but it's tough because I'm in the upper end of their size range, and I'm autistic, so if I buy a shirt in my exact size and it's not a relaxed fit, it's too tight and I can't wear it. Wish they went up to a 3xl or 4xl so i could safely size up. I might have to look for an influencer in my size and see how the shirt fits them first.
I definitely enjoyed the styling video but I'm definitely disappointed with the size range they offer. Next time can you start with the available size ranges when talking about the company instead of putting it at the end?
Please PLEASE check the trigger warnings on Ninth House before getting too far in. I loved the Grisha-verse books from Bardugo, but I personally found Ninth House to be tasteless. I've seen people all over TikTok get really into it but it's rare to see them bring up the trigger warnings before recommending it.
Working on finding more size inclusive brands! Unfortunately the brands that have reached out to me are not so much, so it takes a little more time/research on my end but I’m working on it!
Ok but is it worse than synthetic fibers? I think to get a full picture you also need to look at the lasting damage - like cotton will biodegrade but obviously plastic will not.
