Thanks for the recs. The Off Limits series is a little bit addictive, though the writing is rough. The Abbi Glines series (Smoke series and Georgia Smoke) is good initially with plot and family histories but the follow through is not as profound as I anticipated; still good steam and characterization.
Lots of books here to add to my TBR. I took your advise and read Sovereign - yes Im waiting for the second one in the series. Thank you I have found a new genre. I remembered an historical western I read years ago which I loved, Only His by Elizabeth Lowell it involves horses too. A beautiful story- there is a series of her Western ones. x
Chasing the Wild was so good! 5 ⭐️ for sure! Bull Rush was good but got a little bonkers towards the 80% mark and although their relationship has an HEA, the suspense element does end on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Hi Jenn I’m definitely going to read sovereign I never heard of that book before and I’m also going to pick up bourbon and lies and a couple of the others
Thank you for this video Jen!!! I already got the ebook and audiobook for Souvenir. Thank you for that recommendation!!! I haven't read the Savage book so I can't inform you on its strengths. I get not wanting to be hounded about stuff. I have a tendency to react in the same ways. No worries. Your channel your choice. Have a good trip home!!! Peace.🤗😊📚
Just wanted to mention Nightfall by Joey W. Hill, if you like your alpha sub Marlboro cowboy crossed with a very determined and amazing Domme vampire. Yes there is roughness, sweetness, and a strong man bending his knee only for the right woman. Please read the warnings, as there is (vampire) violence
Hi Jen, usually I agree with your recs eg the Outlander series - Jamie Fraser as book husband and The Takeover - Tristan Miles as book boyfriend. Admittedly being British I’m not really into cowboy stuff and can take or leave BDSM stuff, although I do like Maggie Cole’s Savage Tracker with Obrek as the Dom who heals, and understand what you mean about the healing powers of “good” BDSM. However, Sovereign ( you gave it 6 *s?!?) is one of the few of your recs I disagree with. I got bored with the sex scenes - too many and hero was overbearing, and slight plot. Where was the healing? A series you have said you don’t like but I love is Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries books. It is one of the very few series, apart from Outlander, that I have listened and read every book. I feel the BDSM and the believable world created around it, is one of deep care and therapy as well as at times kinky sex, which in this fictional world I can take. Also it has great character, family humour and at times really exiting action plots. But carry on Jen - I always watch your rec videos to catch any good romance books. All the best xx
Haha! Well, it's not for everyone. Here's my answer to the "healing". Keira discovered someone who would care for her on every level. She has been neglected, never touched with kindness, and basically left in an emotional wasteland. Gerard gives her permission to feel, and in fact, demands it of her. He pushes her to express what bothers her and encourages her interest in horses and gives her anything she wants. She finds freedom in their arrangement and she does ultimately have all the power. As in any good D/s dynamic. Gerard doesn't get anything out of it if she iant giving him control willingly. Gerard finds someone who completely accepts him. He finds a home in Keira. He's had to fight for everything he has, killed, and bled for it. Sure, he takes her at first for revenge and honestly, lust, but there is a tipping point in the story. Where she challenges him to open his wounds and be his absolute self with her. He's scared of that beast, but she's not. She welcomes it out to play and strokes it's fur. So yeah... that's where the healing was for me. And they come through these revelations as they are intimate. Are there too many? Sure, maybe. But it is Erotic Romance so... 🤷♀️ Anyway, you are absolutely justified in any of your feelings but this story is was emotional BDSM as healing is for me. ❤️ It's some of the best I've read because of how essential they are to each other. They would never get this much out of it from anyone else. They are the lock and key only for each other.
@@TheBookRefuge Thank you for your very full answer. I do understand better. It’s to do with honesty and openness. Maybe I found the erotica too much for my taste. I will revisit the book at a later stage and see how I feel then. X
@RenataBrannen thanks for the question. Haha! It does have a LOT. I just tend to not mind when it's clear the book is written to be an Erotic Romance and not just a story where the author wants tons of smut. 🤷♀️ I gauge it differently. But I understand not everyone will! 😘😍
