Dark(er) Romances 

So many people like to watch shows like "You", but then get uncomfortable about the same content in book form. As long as you know what tropes you like/dislike, it's a great way to disassociate for a while.

Regarding warnings in books... As a writer myself, I'd rather like to give content warnings than trigger warnings because it's impossible for me to know what might be triggering for the reader. I believe it's also up to a responsible reader to take care of themselves and know when a certain type of content or theme might contain triggering elements for them. Let's not pawn off the responsibility solely to the author.

Jumped in to Dark Romance with Sophie Lark's Brutal Birthright series. And I am obsessed ❤❤❤

The Monsters in the Dark Series is not my personal favorite from Pepper Winter, but I am obsessed with her. My top 3 series from her in order are 1. Goddess Isles, 2. Dollar series, and 3. Debt Inheritance. Monsters in the Dark would be number 4 to me. But they all have little cameos of characters from the others in later books of each series.

So, I got into this genre on accident, I got I book that I didn’t look into too much before I started reading but a really good series to read that I HIGHLY recommend you read is all he’ll ever be by Willow Winters. I don’t know the series name but there’s four books in the series and “All he’ll ever be” is the compilation book of all four and it’s super good, it’s a gang setting and the same sort of thing, captor/captive and it’s absolutely captivating!! Highly recommend. Another one that isn’t quite as dark but is also a kidnapping story is “The Cellar” by Natasha Preston. She is a watt pad author but the books I have read of hers are very good!! Anyway I love your channel and I really hope you’ll read these because they’re really good and I want to know your opinion!

Hello this is Holly. I ordered the book Still Beating and I can't wait to read it.

The Edge Series by C.D. Reiss is really good. There is violence on page, but I can't divulge specific triggers without major spoilers. She writes a lot of books with mafia, kidnapping, and BDSM themes. Also, I really liked The Whispers and the Roars, but the abuse was hard to read. TBH, my opinions of trigger warnings in dark romance is that if you have any triggers at all, just take care of yourself by avoiding this entire genre. If the author calls it dark, believe them and move on.

The mind f series is definitely wayyyyyy darker than the other serial k*ller books but it's so amazing.

Haunting Adeline, Still Beating and Shallow River have instantly gone on my TBR. I've never heard of any of then before. They sound SO dark!

The .5 in Tillie Cole's Deadly Virtues series is the darkest thing I've read but there isn't actually romance in the prologue story - only bromance. It sets up how dark dark dark the guys who get focused on throughout the series are / will be.

Great recommendations. I LOVE TM Frazier series. I binged it too. I also bought her perversion series and outskirts series but haven't read them yet. I love Tillie Cole too. I read her Scarred Souls series and Deadly Virtues series... both extremely dark. I have the books of the MC series but need to start it and Lord of London Town. Oh yeah and I started my book channel with the book Sick Fux by Tillie Cole and LOVED it. Very very dark with a twist of wonderland. Would love your thoughts when you get to it.

JA Huss’ Meet Me in the Dark is an all time favorite. For just plain twisted, try her Mr. Romance book.

I love thrillers/horrors and I also love romance so I definitely think dark romance is the sub genre for me, I’m just now trying to dip my toes in but it’s hard to find good books that fit the bill for me, so I definitely appreciate this recommendation video! I’m ok with dark themes in romance as long as it’s well written and the book is self aware. I think we can read darker themes in books and know that they’re not real as long as the author shows respect to the subject matter :)

Have you read the Mercy series by Debra Anastasia? That is one of my favorite series.

Have you read Mercy by Debra Anastasia? That is a stalker romance and the hero is absolutely on the darker side of the morally gray.

Do you have any recommendations for dark romance books that are on the shorter side? My only issue with the genre is that the books tend to be longer than I typically like to pick up.

I think books should come with trigger warnings under the synopsis. For example, everyone is raving about It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. It was very disturbing for me as it brought up memories of things from my decades long past. I really would have preferred not to read that. I did read the whole book but I think these books need to come with trigger warnings on the actual books, and in descriptions on Amazon and Goodreads and the likes.
