சரித்திரத்தை கொஞ்சம் திரும்பி பார்த்தால் வெளிநாடுகளில் கூட தமிழர்களிடையே இருக்கும் பிளவிற்கு முக்கிய காரணங்கள் அறியலாம்- 1. தமிழ்நாட்டை வேற்று மொழியினர் தான் பெரும்பாலும் ஆண்டதால் இங்க அவர்கள் இருப்பை தக்க வைத்து கொள்ள, தமிழர் தலைமை வந்து விடக் கூடாது என்பதில் கவனமாக இருந்தார்கள், சாதிய பிரச்சனைகளை தூண்டி கூறு போட்டு வைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். இது பிளவு மற்ற பகுதிகளில் வேறு விதமாக பிரதிபலிக்கிறது. தமிழ்நாட்டிலேயே தமிழர்களுக்குள் ஒற்றுமை ஏற்படாதவாறு பார்த்து கொள்கிறது திராவிட ( தமிழ் பேசும் தெலுங்கர்கள் ) கூட்டம். 2. தமிழ்நாட்டிற்கு அகதியாக குடியேறிய ஈழத்தமிழர்களுக்கு சரியான வாழ்க்கையோ பொருளாதாரமோ கல்வியோ குடியுரிமையோ அரசியல் அதிகாரமோ அளிக்குமாறு மத்திய அரசுக்கு அழுத்தம் எதுவும் கொடுக்காமல் அவர்களை இரண்டாம் தர குடிமக்களாக நடத்துவது. 3. முக்கியமாக 2009 ல் 1.5 லட்சம் ஈழத் தமிழர்கள் இனப்படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டபோது இங்கே ஆளும் கட்சியான தமிழின தலைவர் கருணா வேடிக்கை மட்டுமே பார்த்தது மட்டுமில்லாமல் இங்கே ஆதரவாக போராடியவர்களை சிறையிலடைத்தது. அங்கே ஜெனோசைடு நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் போது இங்கே நடந்த பாராளுமன்ற தேர்தலில் திமுக பெரும்பான்மை யாக வெற்றி பெற்றது. நம் நிலத்தை வேறு ஒருவன் ஆட்சி செய்யும் வரை இந்த அவலம் தொடரும்.

This is so strange because I am in Canada and we don’t have any such discrimination here. In Canada there is biggest Eelam population and me as an Indian tamil who grew up in Canada have so many Eelam Tamil friends. They are amazing and so friendly. In fact they love Tamil Nadu ppl and go out of their way to help each other. Sorry that its not the same in UK.

Good and bad people are in every community. If you don't get what you want, then it isn't the fault of the entire community. Also, many of the comments including the OP project their biases against a certain group of people who presumed to do well in the West.

Being an Indian Tamil, at the age of 19 I was experimentally travelling solo for exposure in the Europe Countries, when I went to the Eiffel Tower the dream place obviously for a 19 year old girl, I was super hungry went to a nearby restaurant to have crepes ( the only food I kinda loved ) and the shopkeeper were eelam tamils, they pretty much found out I was Tamil as well, asked if I was srilankan tamil but I said nope Indian, we tried conversing but I understood like 85 percent of the words only though I felt friendly, by the time i ordered the crepes my forex was continually getting denied, I wasn’t sure what happened, neither dint know what to do, so I was like it’s ok I’ll cancel my order and was about to leave (imagining what would I do for dinner now) but the shopkeepers dint ask for any money and they made me fresh crepes and gave saying it’s a gift and to take it, I was kindoff feeling off cause I wasn’t able to give anything back in return!! But that was a truly blessed moment as an Indian Tamil I developed so much of respect on Srilankan Tamil, so you see not everyone is like that, there are lot of good and sweet srilankan tamils ❤!!

I hear where you are coming from but I don't believe any of you understand the context and history behind this issue. Most Tamils from TN identify themselves as Indian but most Tamils from SL identify themselves as Tamil alone. Most Tamils from India aren't aware of how badly Indian Army inflicted damage to the Eelam Tamils during Rajiv Gandhi time. Therefore, there is always a skepticism mixed suspicion against Indians from an Eelam Tamil's perspective. If you view this issue from this angle, you will understand the root of the problem.

Similarly, I believe and have observed many examples demonstrating that Indian Tamils exhibit a similar mindset and behavior. For instance, there was a recent event called the "UK Tamil RU-vidr Meetup" held in central London, organized by Indian Tamils. However, only Indian Tamils were invited. Why is that? There are many Sri Lankan and Malaysian Tamil RU-vidrs in the UK who were not invited. If the event had been titled "UK Indian Tamil RU-vidr Meetup," it would have made more sense why others were not included. This illustrates that not only Sri Lankan Tamils but all Tamils tend to have a similar mindset. So instead of blaming each other, we all should changed!!!

Most of the comparison starts from people with inferiority complex. But one things they should remember that the Tamil Language is only one connecting us together. Hi Akka! I recently started watching your videos! I’m also Sri Lankan Tamil and I don’t speak on behalf of anyone but myself. I honestly think we need to change this mindset, it’s super damaging and needs to change with our generation (I feel as though it’s very much present with the older folk and seems to be continuing with us for some reason). I think as Tamil people, our language connects us and should not divide us in any way. We are around 10-12 crores in strength world wide but divided by country of origin and caste. We need an umbrella organisation purely of Tamil mother tongue origin only and only by Tamil identity not Dravidian political identity. Dravida needs to be erased from all Tamil's minds because that was an ideology invented with the sole purpose of hacking Tamil identity. Great awakening taking place now in the Tamil land which should be taken note by our Tamil brothers in Srilanka, Singapore, Malaysia and across the globe.

In tamilnadu itself tamils are not given opportunities, in each and every sector of Tamilnadu, tamils are not given priority. Dravidian crap damaged Tamilnadu so much that our own Tamilnadu tamils have to go other places for jobs. Other states have policy for locals like locals should be preferred for 60/70/80 or even 90% of jobs. In Tamilnadu even though tamils are talented we have to beg for opportunities in other places. Thanks to that dravidian crap. Please maintain this distance until indian tamils dump that dravidian mindset.

Hi Senti Bee. Thank you for this amazing video. You have highlighted an issue, which many will refrain from addressing. I am a Srilankan and Tamil. But not from north of Srilanka. There is discrimination even within the regions of Srilanka. North tamils wont even talk to other tamils from other regions of Srilanka. For example east or central. They consider themselves superior, which is actually stupidity. We have the same country, knowledge, education and language.

Hi @sentibee I believe there are two main reasons why Sri Lankan Tamils tend to avoid Indian Tamils in the workplace. 1. From my personal experience, I own a shop in London. Two Indian men wanted to work for me, and I immediately agreed because I see Indian Tamils as our brothers. However, after a month of working, they stole from my shop. It wasn't about the money but the betrayal that hurt me deeply. A similar incident happened to a friend of mine involving Indian Tamil students. If you need evidence, I can provide the video of them stealing. 2. Secondly, many Indian Tamils have a Dravidian mentality, which we strongly dislike. If we allow them to take over organizations like Tamil associations, we fear they might ruin them. We are well aware of the negative impact this mentality can have. I support Tamil unity, but not Dravidian ideologies. In conclusion, as you mentioned, not all Sri Lankan Tamils feel this way. There are good and bad people in every community. Ultimately, we are all Tamils.

I need to share my experience in Canada as a Sri Lankan Tamil born in Fiji and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Although my roots trace back to Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka, I was disheartened by the treatment I received from some fellow Tamils, particularly those from the North. They often distanced themselves from us, despite some being extremely kind. One incident stands out: a friend's mother asked me about my caste during a dinner invitation. This was incredibly awkward and disheartening. They referred to us as Indian Tamils (Wadaketiyan), highlighting unnecessary divisions. At the end of the day, we are all Tamils, an ancient heritage with a shared history. It's deeply troubling to face discrimination from our own people, especially in Tamil shops or cultural festivals in Canada. We are treated differently simply because we come from Colombo and are of Indian descent. I humbly urge all Tamils to unite. Until we stand together as one, we will never achieve true freedom. Let's embrace our shared identity and work towards unity.

First 🥇 As a UK living Tamil family for 32 Year's, Been married with Sri Lankan mom and Indian tamil dad🎉 Indian Tamils are friendly and soft gesture minded people! (Because of non violent and non toxic environment back in India) So everyone is so generous with sharing and equality etc! But Sri Lankan - Tamil are closed minded people, Affection, sentiment and emotionally exhausted by the war! This is actually sad. As a srilankan tamil i had contacts with srilankan tamils here and there and all i can say that the toxicity is spread over everywhere. the people may look friendly together from the outside but in their respective households there is constant comparison about who earns more, who has a better status, whose children is more successful etc or even about small things like who makes the better pazhagarams at functions. This is ridiculous this is one of the reason why i rarely attend any tamil functions or have contact with other tamil people nowadays

I understand and empathise with your perspective and recognise the views of Sri Lankan/Malaysian Tamils. Regarding unity among the Tamils, a saying about crabs comes to mind. It's true that even in their respective regions (Tamil Nadu, Eelam Tamils, and Malaysian Tamils), unity can be a challenge. It can be disheartening, but future generations must avoid replicating the same behaviour and keep moving forward.

Because i know myself there are discrimination even between Srilankan Tamils because of different cities they are coming from and casteism. We live in America, here tamil nadu people are very close with other languge indians and they see us(sri lankan tamils) as just sri lankans. They have tamil associations here only indian tamils,telungu people and hindi people can participate in their events, they never include sri lankan tamils. They never treat us same like them. i am a singsporean tamil so i am not siding with either sri lankan tamils or indian tamils. To be fair the sri lankan tamils created the ecosystem when they arrived in england to claim asylum status during the 1980s. subsequent arrivals build aupon the foundation. All the cultural instititions,relligious institutions,newspaper and social organisations were funded from donations from sri lankan tamils,so indian tamils you have not contributed anything so you cannot expect their institutions to overwelhmed by indian tamils. in Singapore all the temples have been flooded by indian nationals.you are welcome to integrate with local tamils but if you intent to dominate there will be pushback

Thanks for boldly bringing up this issue. I have noticed the same issues all over the world, but when it comes to SL Tamil and IN Tamil it adds more to the complexity. I see lot of people have commented on the history of the country which might have influenced people’s minds but I agree with you it can be frustrating for the younger generation to still work through issues due to happenings in the past. @@prithiverajnatarajan937 good question Jaffna tamils are not part of main tamil kingdoms chera chola pandiya and pallawa. we have different laws in sri lanka called thesavalamai which only applicable to jaffna people this law come from the Jaffna Kingdom heritage. we have different marriage culture, dowry is legal and groom has to go to bride home after marriage. our food is much different from you. specially puddu idiyappam appam are our breakfast and red rice is for lunch but for you indly thosai and white rice and sambaar. there are many history cultural differences you have to read more. our kings had much relationships with kandiyan kingdom and kotte kingdoms. we have seperate religion books and schlars for hindusim which is called saivam yougar swamigal kadaiyilswamygal aarumuga navalar swamy vipulananthar are some of them. conclusion we are not same you all are different we are different.

This may be due to the pain and losses they faced in Sri Lanka's north. There is a difference in how you came to the UK and how they did. Everyone in the comment section is just ignoring this and blaming them, despite the huge consequences and losses they faced during the war. No Tamils have raised their voices strongly, and although a few have done so, there is still no solution or justice for them. As a Tamil from Bangalore, I have faced only insults and discrimination from different regional people since childhood, simply because I am Tamil. This happened to my friends and cousins as well. They show discrimination and hatred towards us, and I feel that people from Tamil Nadu have not raised their voices against this. Despite protesting, nothing has changed, and the hatred among youths is increasing day by day. They insult us even when we speak in Tamil, making me feel insecure and as though everyone is cornering Tamils. Additionally, we must also talk about Tamil cinema, where no Tamil actors and actresses are getting chances. I have strong roots in Tamil Nadu and Malaysia too so I am making this statement. It may not affect people in Tamil Nadu, so they can't understand or feel the pain of people like us. Sometimes, I even get angry at the Tamil people in Tamil Nadu because of this. All we need is support and protection. If Tamil people are affected by things like this, we need you to stand with us. It’s simple: it's a give-and-take policy. I can understand the pain and suffering of Eelam Tamils, and I am not saying that what they did was right. But it's a feeling that people from Tamil Nadu and other Tamils from different regions have not raised their voices strongly to protect them. We shouldn't generalize and blame everyone based on the actions of a few, "Not taking part in our sorrow but only in our happiness." Thank you for your comment by brother. Any rational person would take the message in this video with a grain and salt. It's clearly put out as a click bait and not to solve any underlying issues. Tamil spaces created by Eelam Tamils are to cope with their pain and suffering they experienced during the war and also to move forward their political struggle back home. There are many powerful forces work against them including agents of Sri Lankan and Indian Governments. So, Eelam Tamils are always cautious to take outsiders to run their spaces whether it's media, associations, temples, etc. As the person in this video demonstrated, most Indian Tamils in West have very little understanding of the struggles of Eelam Tamils. Example, the person in this video is a social media star, but I couldn't find a single video/message in support of Eelam Tamil struggle in her platform.

Indian Tamil origin soldier called Navam/Dady was best friend Prabhakaran who saved his life many times. Actually many Indian Tamil origin people who lived in Central SriLanka/Colombo fought in the war and lost their lives but they don't recognize them and show only that Northern SriLankan people fought.

SL Tamils don’t feel foreign soil and they always tell me they don’t feel any deeper connection to Indian Tamils. Even the Tamil spoken is different. I am a Sri Lankan Tamil living in Sri Lanka. My father is from Jaffna, and my mother is a Hill Country Tamil. I have faced more discrimination from Northern Tamils than from Sinhalese people. This prejudice is worse than casteism. Even today in Jaffna, certain castes can only buy land or homes in specific areas. They appeal for sympathy and personal gain (SInging 'Vidai Kodu engal naadey' in Reality Shows), but the reality of their discrimination is harsh. And we recently saw their barbarian activities even during the Hariharan's musical concert!!!

⁠hi Senti, I understand where you’re coming from, but I do believe there should be some distinction between Tamils born and raised in the UK and Tamils who come here as students. Personally, my parents came to the UK as refugees in the 90s. They have no land, house, relatives or anything back in Sri Lanka. For people like me, the only place I can express my tamil identity is in the UK. I cannot go back to Sri Lanka as it is not my home and unlike you I don’t have a home or family in India. For decades, tamil student organisations in the UK have been the centre of activism against the tamil genocide. I believe the challenges your friend has faced, especially in the student committee, comes from the fear of British Eelam Tamils losing or compromising their identity in student spaces. However, any sort of discrimination is bad. I just wanted to offer some kind of explanation to you on behalf of young Eelam Tamils. With more understanding, I hope we can eventually unite as Tamils :)

Well said. I would also like to add that most Indian Tamils in the West have very little understanding or interest in the political struggle of Eelam Tamils.

As a Sri Lankan Tamil from the 90's generation who has lived in Sri Lanka and Europe(UK, Swiss, and France) I have noticed this issue too, but to understand this you need to know the root cause of this problem. Most Tamils from TN identify themselves as Indians but most Tamils from SL identify themselves as Tamil alone. Most Tamils from India aren't aware of how badly the Indian Army inflicted damage (Raped, Killed and slaughtered innocent families) on the Eelam Tamils during Rajiv Gandhi's time. One of the reasons why Nothern SL Tamils took arms to fight the brutality was due to the backing of former TN CM MGR but after his death support from TN to Eelam Tamils diminished. Especially during the end of the war (2009), hardly any support was given from TN, most Eelam Tamils consider this as a betrayal of their own kind. There's this mindset prevails in the Sri Lankan Tamil community where they see Indian Tamils use others' sorrow for their political gains. It infuriates SL Tamils when they see Jayalalitha(ADMK), Karunanidhi(DMK), and Seeman used to tell fake stories about Eelam Tamils for their political gains. I'm not going to justify what they did to you or to your aunt's child but just a gentle reminder every story has two sides. Hopefully, time will heal the wounds. We understand the pain we as a Tamil people always there but don't judge Tamilnadu people by these political people they are non Tamil people who settle in Tamilnadu and ruling. There are Tamil people who died in order to stop the war in srilanka...

Karunanidhi was a hardcore Tamil Eelam supporter, and his party well diverted Indian taxpayers' money for lavish monetary, material/equipment, and training endowment to the Tigers. Tamil Nadu wasn't a rich state at that time, but he and his party did so much for your people. And I say that as a hardcore DK parties hatter (you see, one another reason to hate them !). Your people eaten on his and his masters hands for a long time, till some disputes and mistrust emerged on the mind of your thalaivars, and that divorce was celebrated with the Sriperumbudur blast ! Some Jaffna people are only demonstrating in mass one thing in the comment section : They are of ungrateful and egocentric nature ! Tamil Nadu stopped it's intervention in favour of Tamil Eelam because yourselves sabotaged any support of India by killing their PM ! Tamil Nadu hopped the best to you, and you did the worst for that state ! Tamil Nadu government and its people have been since source of well-justified critic and of some distrust from whole India. In Sriperumbudur, not only Rajiv was gone, but several Tamil civilians lives for which no justice happened till now ! With those who had the "Sengol," let tilt it by blindly following so-called "Tamizh Nationalism" ideologies ! Both Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha influenced all spheres of Indian justice in favour of those who committed directly or indirectly that terrorist attack. You don't know History from the Tamil Nadu perspective, and even more serious, your people deny it for egocentric reasons.
