yea but you have to remember clare torey was white, i aint ever heard a white woman sing like that since. She wanted to scrap the original version because she thought it was terrible.
Very accurate bass sound, thats one of the keys to pink floyd´s sound in Dark side, that bass fulfill all the spaces, and the notes are a must be, all of them. Myung replicates note per note
@@Bealikespeas102 astonishing comment as gilmour played most of the bassThe whole Who played bass? debate comes from one article, which was originally published in Musician magazine in August 1992, with excerpts being published in others, such as Rock Compact Disc in September '92. The original was titled Careful With That Axe: David Gilmour Chops Through Pink Floyd's Past to Build a New Future by Matt Resnicoff. In December of that same year, he published Roger and Me: The Other Side of the Pink Floyd Story. Both of these have often been quoted in these discussions, but out of context. I'm only posting the relevant portions of each interview, one in response to the other, as they were given. MR: Was Roger an effective bassist back then? DG: He had developed his own limited, or very simple style. He was never very keen on improving himself as a bass player and half the time I would play bass on the records because I would tend to do it quicker. Right back to those early records; I mean, at least half the bass on all recorded output is me anyway. MR: This is not a widely acknowledged fact. DG: Well, I think it's been said, but it's certainly not something we go around advertising. Rog used to come in and say, "Thank you very much" to me once in a while for winning him bass-playing polls. MR: Did you play the fretless bass on "Hey You"? DG: Yeah. Hmm. Roger playing fretless bass? Please! (laughs)
+Rick Moran - the whole band nailed it, and they had enough taste not to overplay their instruments. Bravo. If anyone ever needs proof that a guitarist doesn't need to be fast to be great, just refer him/her to Gilmour's solo on Time.
For sure, nothing beats Pink Floyd, however you'll never find another group doing a cover as good as this one (at least I haven't found one yet). Congrats to Dream Theater on this tribute to Pink Floyd!
I love Pink Floyd. Don't get me wrong. But I wouldn't be honest if I didn't say that this cover makes the original look like it was done by a high school band.
This was a very good performance of a very good piece of music done by players who are the instrumental superiors of the member of Pink Floyd. The exception, of course, is David Gilmour, who is as good (if not more soulful) a guitarist as Petrucci, and a vastly superior vocalist compared to LaBrie.
Jordan Rudess is mister music. The way he rendered those haunting lap-steel guitar figures in the intro was just beautiful. I can’t adequately express my respect for his artistry.
Blueshift Odyssey He did shed a tear. It was his favourite song during his younger years and it was his dream to play that song live in front of an audience.
@quiflington I'd be interested to hear why you think he didn't play it well, let alone labeling the performance as a "destruction" of it. Sounded like a faithful reproduction to me.
I can't believe why I haven't watched this concert for all those years, my favourite two bands merged into one....can't hold my tears, this is just perfect for me....
When Mike Portnoy cries at Brain Damage, is so moving... It's wonderful to know that one your all time favourite drummers is so deep into the same album I am.
I saw Pink Floyd perform this in its entirety with much more of their catalog, rockets and animals flying over my head, surrounded by their 5 channel sound system in 1973 in Hollywood, Florida at the age of 17. It was an unforgettable and formative experience in my musical growth. This is a tribute of which Dream Theater can be proud.
Some say there were songs or albums that no one should ever dare to copy. I rather think that if the right one comes along, even the creators of this masterpiece might feel honored to see their musical legacy being appreciated. DT are honoring the contribution of Pink Floyd to modern music with this spot on cover version.

Héctor Bernal I agree, the time stamps are nice if you want to hear them cover your favourite song from the album, but Dark Side Of The Moon is one of the greatest albums in existence and i have to listen to it from start to finish. Dream Theater did an absolutely amazing cover of this album, probably my favourite Pink Floyd cover
Wolfgang Bert if anyone dass to skip at any point.... An album such as this was made to be played from starrt to end. No pause no skips. It's not a collection of songs, it's one song, a story with chapters connected to each other so heavily, that they shouldn't and can't be torn apart.
Ive always respected dream theater for their talent.. but for them to come out and completely nail such an iconic album like this.. words cant even describe how blown away i am.
I'm not necessarily a Dream Theater fan per se, but I've always had tons of respect for these guys and that was amazing! Theresa Thomason killed it on The Great Gig In the Sky. I saw Roger Waters at Madison Square Garden in January 1987 (Radio KAOS tour) and he brought out the original singer from Dark Side Of the Moon to sing that song. Theresa Thomason's performance here was on par with the original! Amazing.
When listening to the first time, I thought it was the song that was the least similar. But reading your comment got this feeling, they dared to sound more like Dream Theater.
I think that was the best part of the cover. They stayed true to the original for most of the songs, but weren't afraid to add their creative flair which lifted the whole set.
This is one of the best versions of DSOTM I’ve ever heard, and I’m a Pink Floyd fan from the early seventies. These folks did a fantastic performance of a fifty year old classic album ✨💎🔥
I really like that despite being an "easy" set of songs for Mike Portnoy, he feels them, just like any of his songs, and he plays them just as well as Nick Mason, he doesn't add anything because they don't need anything more
As a metal drummer myself, and someone that can’t even carry Portnoy’s broken drum sticks but…….. he does sound a little “stiff” compared to the original recording from Mason. However they are different styles and eras. Apples and oranges.
@@CarlosNFiona3he’s playing Nick Mason straight, he has a bit more of a swing to his playing, even in songs that were specifically straight he would do swung fills
James LaBrie is an extremely talented vocalist and frontman. The problem most people have with him is the style of his vocals. Stylistically most people want a different sound for Dream Theater. I personally enjoy his vocals. Dream Theater would not be who they are without him.
+Newdull , that's exactly my point of view , James fits DT perfectly & without his voice , the band would not be the same ! He always gives his heart & soul at every performance ! I'm a fan ! Respect !
I have listened to this album so many times, front to back, it's like one long song in my head. I can't ever hear one song without hearing the next. This disorder gladly kept me here for 45 minutes. I was most impressed by Petrucci's playing.
I liked this cover very much. However even though Petrucci is a guitar genius, David Gilmour's solos had something special in it. In other words,'*I can't explain, you would not understand*' :)
For someone that grew up with them, plays music, and did a lot of LSD too them, I get it. Gilmour made sweet love to that Strat! Best bends in music history by far.
Superb.....I doubt whether any other band could have pulled this off as well.....Dream Theater captured the not only the notes but the spirit of the most listened to rock album of all time....Only one word for it.....SUPERB !!!!!
Massive respect for this epic project. Everything is precise and tight. They truly capture the spirit of the original. It must have been a real thrill to be there. For the critics... I know Pink Floyd is untouchable but, DT deserves MAJOR respect for pulling this off.
Beautiful music! Thank you Pink Floyd for creating this wonderful album. Thank you Dream Theater for covering this. You really nailed it! You and Pink Floyd are the best!
It really does take a virtuoso like Petrucci to capture the finesse and nuance of David Gilmour, who's a virtuoso in his own way. I've seen (and tried myself!) so many RU-vid videos of people attempting the Time solo, and it's *never* quite there, and I think most guitar players don't even have the critical perspective to realize how much they suck. I KNOW how much I suck, which is why I'd never embarrass myself by uploading a video of me performing the Time solo, no matter how spot-on I might imagine I am.
It's not embarrassing to upload a cover attempt, as long as you tried your best. I think it actually takes a lot more courage to upload an imperfect attempt at a solo and show what you can do, than it is to just keep playing by yourself and thinking you suck. Just my 2 cents.
Wow. Just stumbled across this. I was shocked. I expected them to constantly overplay and totally disregard the exquisite subtlety Pink Floyd is so gifted with. They Didn't. They held back and played the songs for the sake of the songs, something I didn't think Dream theater capable of. I am impressed.
As with all Dream Theatre music, this rates among the very best. Especially doing a cover of a band that is very hard to emulate. Hats off again to DT for doing an exemplary job. I hope you agree.
39:58 Mike Portnoy achieves salvation. This is stuff dreams are made of and this is the stuff that incite people like me to go on till i reach there. Thankyou for your passion Mike and DT
Das ist die beste Pink Floyd Cover Band die ich bisher gehört habe . Alles andere dieser Band ist natürlich auch super klasse, keine Frage .Jedes ihrer Alben ist spitze
The Keys, Mike Portney's graceful restraint. . . . the entire band.. is a tribute to Rick Wright, `a truly gentle man'. . . Rest in Peace Richard.... ... .. . .
Wow!! Dark side of the moon is one of the greatest albums out there and I must say this is the first cover that I heard that not only comes close to the original but ots played to perfection. Dream Theater did a great job recreating the atmosphere that Pink Floyd so masterfully created. Without exaggerating and without any fills to ‘break’ the soulfulness of any passage, DM performs the whole album in a very professional and ‘faithful’ way. Great job guys!
I was just thinking the same. It’s the complete lack of urge to exaggerate that does the trick.which is a typical (bad) culture between virtuosos when covering Pink Floyd. This is PERFECT.
Dang. I'm one of those people with 5 different vinyl copies and all that. 🌈This was fantastic🌈. It gave me a new energy for this album when i was listening I'm going to play this many more times. What a treat 💚thank you to the people who made it possible
It's the sheer appreciation that's called for here, not bitching over who's better than who. The original is class, and DT are certainly making their version so commendable. To argue and to ignore the efforts, beggars belief.................................
The lead singer here isn't James LaBrie, it's that lady. She KILLED IT!!

OK When I came across this video, I thought Ok, I´m gonna listen to a couple songs. But I couldn't stop listening and watching. I love The Floyd, and DT have done a great homage to this classic album. They are top notch musicians.
Just happened to stumble upon this and I’m absolutely loving it..Perfect amalgamation of my favourite two bands, love Labrie’s singing in here..❤❤Thank you for uploading
The Wall was the first album i ever listened from start to the end and Dark Side of the Moon was the second. My first favorite band (it still is) was Pink floyd and they determined my music taste. Thanks to the Floyd i met with rock, blues, jazz, prog rock and many other genres but most importantly Porg Rock wich led me to know Dream Theater. And now to see that one of my favorite bands covering one of my favorite bands albums is really emotional and sweet for me. Thank you Pink Floyd, thank you Dream Theater.
Wonderful 45m listening to this real musicians playing this amazing PF music. Respect for the composers clearly shown in this stunning tribute. What a solo voice the woman has....MY GOD!!!
Alexandre Matos you should find out how the original female vocal solo was made by Claire Torry. She was invited to sing whatever came into her head, using her voice as a lead instrument. She listened once, then sang it twice. That was all. She was embarrassed, excused herself for what she thought was quite weak. But the guys from PF sat there, flabbergasted and in awe. It was simply perfect, beyond what they expected. Listen to the original, breathtaking. Now this woman here, definitely fantastic in her own way.
