i forgot to add in that the rolling R2 is a poke as well as the second R2 of the regular heavy attack. i fail leave me be :p (was exausted when editing lol)
ChaseTheBro Yo dude! Never tried the BKS in DS3 so this was an interesting video. You gave me a build idea though... Zach Fair (Final Fantasy VII): Black Knight Sword, Assassin Top (or any light armor top that's black), Hard leather boots or conjurator trousers, no helm, Sorcerer's gloves. Quality attack stats, moderate vitality and high health and endurance. Sprinkle in some basic level spells (lightning spear, Snap Freeze, and great fireball) with upgraded base level catalysts and you have your very own authentic Soldier 1ST Class! Minus the Buster sword of course unless you use the Cathedral Knight UGS. Then build for a strength character with minor casting.
The most impressive part of this video wasn't necessarily the weapon debut, but your knowledge of every single weapon, knowing when and how to trade, poise windows of different weapons, advantages of different stances with the weapons, etc. Quality weapons have nothing on quality knowledge
Justin Schuster thank you man! i have been pvping since the game came out. so ive built up a good amount of knowledge regarding each weapon match up! thanks for noticing lol
The charged R2 (one handed) is really good to catch a person recovering from a backstab/riposte. And if you hit the first charged R2, hitting the uncharged second R2 should be guaranteed. Such a good combo.
I know this is old, but I thought I should say this. The 1 hand R2/RT does a horizontal sweep and if pressed again it does a strong thrust. It's perfect to bait with.
Next PvP I'm going to try and beat Chase by rollcatching him 6 times in a row till he dies. Then maybe he'll understand the pain and suffering he has unleashed upon the world.
You missed out on a thrust attack in the One Hand Heavy chain. What I love about this sword is how smooth the full R1 and R2 attacks when they transition during the combo. Especially if you do R1, R1, R2, then another R2, which results in a right swipe, left swipe, heavy right swipe, twirl then stab. Edit: I just saw the comment about your rolling r2.
I love your commentary in this! You actually say how to fight different matchups, and Why! Also, that Hollowslayer+Straightsword is an awesome combo, he should have used better. (I do the same thing with the Astora UGS, and the Broadsword. The AUGS has the Lothric Knight's Moveset, including the Power Poke to counter, while the Broadsword is really a great Sidearm for close quarters. Because it's quick, slashy, and hits HARD. Also you can 2H for Stance, whih the AUGS can't do. So, they make-up for eachother's shortcomings, and also scale off the same Quality stats. Just Heavy Broadswoard, and Sharp AUGS with a 40/40, or 27/40 if you have alternative stats like Faith/Int)
It's one of my favorite pve weapons, Great for all kinds of bosses, especially midir, Midir is an abyssal enemy but black knight sword will out dps any of the damage the farron weapons do. Like FGS did 322 damage to midir per r1 swing, but bks did 405 damage. It's just perfect!
CHASE! do more vids like this I really appreciate the in depth PVP advice / walkthroughs. I'd say I'm mid tier at PVP I just got to the point where I consistently beat Invaders at Meta level but in those big Farron cluster fucks with tons of experienced players I don't last too long. Help us filthy Nubs GIT GUUD
the Black Knight has always been my go to since the first dark souls. I've always seen it as one of the most underrated weapons. people always go for the fanciest most crazy outputting weapons with a whole bunch of buildup. but the BKGS has always been a good weapon.
one of my favorite weapons by far, I agree on parry great swords, have actually been parried once from a 2h r1 immediately after the weapon art was surprised they timed it right
I have always LOVED the BKGS. I dump the rest of the points in vitality and endurance so i can carry more things like blood bandit knife and arbalest. If you just want to duel or straightup use the weapon just stick with that build he made.
I love this weapon. Perseverance lets me tank and out-poise most enemies in PvE, and the weight of the weapon isn’t too great, but enough to shield-break tough enemies. And the damage output is great.
Honestly I've loved this weapon since the first game (through I didn't use it in DS2 much because of those weird two handed R1 swings), but in this game I think it's the best it's ever been before.
Try out the mace, it has perseverance as well, hyper-armor, better roll-catching, and a faster moveset. Since the hyper armor activates so fast, it completely destroys spammers. Main reason it outclasses BKS, is the fact that it scales better with Str builds. So you get the essential stat for trading, flat-defense. (It gets similar damage to BKS, and it's *_B_* *_U_* *_F_* *_F_* *_A_* *_B_* *_L_* *_E_* )
Ever since you destroyed me with this very weapon. I had to roll a quality build just like this. Can honestly say its the easiest time I have had in pvp. Thanks Chase!
Perseverance Weapon art is the perfect counter for Ringed Knight Dual Greatswords, pair that with relatively high damage and roll catching this thing is practically the perfect counter for it.
Yeah. The Black Knight Sword is one of the best great swords in Dark 1 and Dark 3. Even without the weapon art, it's still a solid weapon for both strength builds and quality builds.
I absolutely love the BK sword, took it into the arena and it just lets me tank ultras with perseverance. The single handed R2 lets you fool openers because the second R2 has a huge lunge and catches people off guard
I often sit and cry into my lap when i think about how much more fun and versatile this game could have been if only they had included Dark Souls II's power stance option.....can you even imagine the possibilities.
I know this comment is like a year old, but I agree. They removed so many things DS2 did right - Power Stance, Bonfire Ascetics, Spice, roll speed increased/decreased directly based on any changes in weight, and magic didn't suck. You'd think when they made 3, they'd've taken the good points of 2 and put them in, but nope.
Thank you so much I've been looking for an hour for the sword I had one of my own but I started a new game and I couldn't find the name of it it's my favorite weapon
"Best" weapon aside, it's a top-tier contender in nearly any situation you need it for sure. I enjoy it for both PvP and muscling through PvE-- It's stupid easy to perseverance through a ton of stuff, guard break and stagger things with its bonus to "poise breaking" or w/ever without sacrificing raw damage output.
It actually does have a poke attack, the one handed second R2 is the ds1 poke, but now chargeable. I highly recommend rolling and then immediately R2ing to get the second R2 always, never the 1st R2 unless you’re a spicy man
Dude. Bro. Dog. Dark moon caestuses are the bomb. Amazing roll cathes with the running l2 and amazing poise weapon art. With 40 poise, the damage absorbtion is amazing. Wear the executioners gauntlets for the iron boxing gloves look.
I subscribed and liked anyway. Chase you're the only dude in ds3 who remembers pointing down can be used to be helpful, also bonus points for usage in your video editing. I'll be definitely using this build (been looking for an optimal blackknight build) as we have the similar playstyle: all about that aggressive quality, only youre way more knowledgeable. Tho I'm hoping i can get at least close to your god skillz lol cheers m8, keep on being awesome. Only qs I have are, is that poise defense stat important, will I need 19? And will I be able to use bkga or bkh on a menu swap? Not too fussed about having the bkgs.
Haven't played much of the DS series besides DS1 and Bloodborne, but I know I love greatswords. This may be the one I go for when I finally play. 👍 Also, fantastic vids. *subbed*
I unfortunately discovered this weapon too late, but no late enough to not be possible to use it against the Demon Prince. I passed trough all Ringed City and killed Gael with this absolute monster.
Sad that ds3 Black Knight sword didn’t have the dope power poke as the first heavy move. I was so good with it back in the first that I really miss it.
I use almost the exact same armor set up! You have about 12% equipment load to play with, since you don't gain any rolling speed from it sitting at 57% With the RoF+3 and the Prisoner's Chain as staple rings for you, I'm not sure why you stick to the Wolf Knight Gloves and knight leggings bro :/ The Silver Knight Gauntlets and the Silver Knight leggings (which weigh as much as the knight pants), offer much higher poise and defenses and look almost exactly the same, because the Wolf Knight gauntlets are LITERALLY the exact same as the Silver Knight, they just have either cracks or taints of the Abyss on them. The silver matches your Lothric helmet in a much more asthetically pleasing way.
It's a sword with Perseverance. Just that is pretty Imba. I like Stance, it is useful, but I'm willing to part with it for the 50% (Give or tke, depending on the build) Damage Mitigation. Even if you're not Trading, that's pretty obscene. "Best in Class?" I'm sorry, but it's really hard to beat the moveset on the Lothric Knight Sword. Tie? The Knights get the best gear, personal preference if you prefer the Black Silver, or Lothric Knight's, but those are generally the top 3, or at least in the top 5, with a couple non-knight weapons in there.
I personally count the Strait/Great/Ultragreats together. They're Swords. Some are longer, slower, and heavier, but still. The difference between the Lothric Knight's, and the Astora (Ultra) greatsword. There's more overlap than points of separation. They all kind of run together. (Likewise, the Patrisan is practically a Halberd, even though it looks like, and is classed as a Spear, it has more in common with Halberds. For that matter, the Estoc is more like a Spear than the Partisan is.)
If you one handed your BKS the second R2 is doing a thrust damage and it looks badass. just fully charge it and the animation after the hit its just look cool try it. it looks like the same animation from ds1 black knight's npc!
Isn't worth dropping the prisoner's chain and getting 15 more level, to have another ring slot? Like, you could very much use a ring of steel protection on that slot and get a heap ton of extra defense (not mentioning the fact that your defenses won't drop because of the prisioner's chain, virtually giving you and avarage extra 21 absorption on every physical stat) ps.: i know it won't really give 21 because how it's calculated, but you got my point
Ring of Steel Protection doesn't do anything in pvp, and you are right about Prisoners Chain. Ring of Favor and Protection is better than Prisoners Chain at high levels.
The second 1 handed heavy attack is a thrust attack but in pvp it's rare to land since it's the second heavy attack plus since it's 1 handed you lost a lot of poise and some damage
Picked up this game a few days ago for my birthday because it was on sale, was wondering "I wonder if this sword is in the game?" Well, not quite happy with it being redesigned into a greatsword rather than a one-handed, but eh.
The only thing I feel that lacks is the twohanded R2. The other black knight weapons are so much better in that case. But the poise weapon art is just too good to pass
I'm trying to decide if I should ditch my claymore for it or not. I like the fp and strong attack more on the claymore and it's what I've been using for the entire game
Juan Diego Esquivel man idk if it's just me.. but i feelmthat the bastard sword has the most hyper armor on its weapon art.. with me it was never interrupted
I have a 50/50 quality build and I mastered a true combo that is garunteed to kill anyone. Seriously it does 2000 damage, it's so disgusting that I got a 13 win streak in a fight club... And destroyed everyone as soon as I can get that combo. If you want to know it's two hand, perciverince, one hand, r1,r1,r2,r2. Hard to pull off but Jesus it's terrifying. I would recommend that you use it against any ultra great weapons because they are slow, I find them easy to parry so bye bye percevirence, and... You know 2000 DAMAGE!
