This old but this is 100% a way healthier mindset. like it's insane to me that people will blame the game/other players for a loss. We're all just trying to suck less dick at video games
Just yesterday on stream I had a fight with a host, his three times resummoned phantom and a fairly good tryhard blue that used siegbraus, blessings and everything. At the end I won. I went on with my business and since I don't have notifications for messages only after a while I noticed something. I got added to a multiple chat(with me, the blue, the host and the phantom) where the blue complimented me and insulted the host. Yes, the blue was extremely salty and the totally passive host returned the insults. W/BLUEMAIL. But seriously, people should take it easy. #NoSalt #JokeImAlmostAlwaysSalty
(cruise ship password protects WI-FI) Somali pirate rage *intensifies* Ah, btw I think the splitleaf guy was using carthus flame arc and probably lingering dragoncrest ring. I think I can hear him buffing at 12:45 (and he seemed to be swaping from his catalyst afterwards).
a_witticism Ha! Beat you to it! Though by his play level I doubt that he has the +2 but maybe someone droped it for him. I didnt bother to count the seconds...
"I wonder if there's a new Saint video" *literally the first fucking thing in my feed is a new Saint video released a half hour ago* fuck yeah my dude, it ain't even my birthday!
Carthus Flame Arc lasts 90 seconds, longer than any other buff. With the Lingering Dragon Crest ring you can get this up to 117 seconds. The +2 version of the ring will get you to 126 seconds. So maybe that's why the Host's splitleaf was constantly on fire. Speaking of the warpick, I had one of my crazy ideas yesterday. At 66 strength, a two handed heavy warpick has 502 AR. Blessed weapon will bring that up to 540 AR. The warpick does pure thrust damage. A counter hit with the Leo ring does 49.5% extra damage. On a counter hit, you will functionally have 807 AR. Eek. Also, blessed weapon adds 56 AR to counter hits, instead of the normal 38 to normal hits. I ended up deciding to use this with with the red hilted halberd so I could pop perseverance and spam. Warpick was really fun for a while on its own (no buff) and then I lost interest. But this strategy would be optimal with the warpick, or maybe the Lucerne.
The Raff i've been looking to make a build based on faith and counter thrust, but since blessed infusions for the most part suck unless the weapon has base lightning damage, it's a lost cause. I'll give your suggestion a try though!
Grant Hawes not blessed infusion, the blessed weapon buff! I wouldn't use blessed infusion on anything that doesn't have innate lightning damage. Edit: Oooh I see what you are saying, good luck with that and tell me how it goes, I haven't applied it in game yet
Carthus Flame Arc lasts 90 seconds. If he has a lingering dragoncrest ring +2, I think it lasts for over 2 minutes. So that's probably how the Splitleaf is always burning
Yep, there are so many games that cater to the 'I hate invaders, I just want to co-op with my friends' crew, it russles my jimmies when people try and sanitise what makes souls unique, invasions.
Cool invasion footage from now on is fine with me. Even if I didn't know anything about invasions at this point, I can just go back and watch your old stuff. There's always more to learn, and you're really good at feeding that new info through videos, but I think most players can help themselves if they come to you. You're doing Gwyn's work, Riot.
Saint your commentary on invasions has renewed my love of the game as a whole and in an indirect way really helped with my depression, thank you for voicing your opinions in such a good manner
Yeah man thats some good shit right there! I love everything about this game and franchise. Unique PvP, PvE, lore, world design, hot fashion. This franchise really sucks me in. Salty ass haters just don't want to look past their own expectations to enjoy something that's been carefully crafted without them in mind! GG saint well said.
I know how you feel on hosts complaining about invaders. In Dark Souls 1, I invaded in Painted World and the host set an obvious trap where he was in the rafters of the small building with the ladder leading up to it. I throw bombs, he messages me to leave since I'm ruining his experience. I stole his items, climbed the ladder while he was making a new message and attacked him. He proceeded to unplug.
The problem with the battle of wills between host and invader is that I have come across players (with increasing frequency as time moves on) who are willing to literally wait for hours despite outnumbering you 3 to 1 because they won't fight you when there's a single PVE nearby. I literally made a reddit post where a host and summon refused to engage me in the painted world for *two hours,* and when they realized I was being serious about being perfectly willing to wait for another 6 hours, the host fxcking *DDOS'd me.*
I kept hearing something behind your voice, and I RAN from my Xbox to my laptop, and stared into the video, hearing the Battle Theme from Salt and Sanctuary. Laughed for about 10 minutes- Once again, great content as always, Saint. Keep up the great work, and I hope you're having fun with the rest of the Unkindled!
For the fire buff thing, fun fact if he is buffing it with carthus flame arc the flame arc lasts longer than all other buffs by a lot. Flame arc with out lingering stays on for a minute and a half. With lingering it can be on for a long ass time
what you said about the co-op is exactly what keeps me coming back to Dark Souls.i pretty much suck at pvp,but i do love fighting invaders and still get a rush hearing one spawn in even though the consequences of dying arent nearly as dire as they were in demons souls.i remember watching a video of a red invading before i actually purchased the game and being in awe of the fact that someone could force their way into your world. the impact of that game mechanic ,for me anyway,is what truly makes a (souls)game, not the much hyped about difficulty.
Thank you, finally. I hate players that complain about one of the most interesting aspects of the game. I love getting killed by an invader who is patient and picks off his prey. It should be rough for both sides, though. I love being outplayed as an invader by a host. These games are meant to be brutal and punishing. They aren't supposed to be a cute little co-op. Playing with a group of friends that invades and summons each other is shit tons of fun, though, and that's why the name/password rings exist. But, if you are part of that group, you have to accept other people floating in and wrecking your day. The point of Dark Souls' online system is for players to drift in and out of each other's worlds as friends and foes. It isn't supposed to be fair, and I love that. I'm glad I found another guy who thinks like the developers. Thank you
I remember my first invasions in Dark Souls 1 (not too long ago, since I started playing pretty late). Was playing with a friend who was a few level higher, entering Blighttown for the first time, and he was keeping his distance and only dropped in when needed, so I could learn the game uninterrupted by him. We had two totally different characters, so it was nice to see what the other one could do and how he dealt with problems in his own way. Then the first invasion happened, and we were like "Ah, alright. Down there is some space, lets wait for him there." So the invader found us, we greeted him, each one of us had a battle with him - getting entirely devastated, of course - and that was that, in a matter of a minute. He bowed like we did before, I collected my souls when we got back there, no problems. I even thought it was kinda nice to see what you could do with the same gear, but more experience. The invasion that happened directly afterwards was what almost made me quit Dark Souls entirely. I was waiting for my friend at the poison swamp bonfire right before Quelaag to connect again when I got invaded. Knowing that everywhere else I would get poisoned instantly, I stayed at the bonfire while the invader was running in the distance. Now my friend connected, the invader saw us and suddenly kept his distance, lobbing fire bombs and shit at us from a safe distance. Friend asked if he should use pyromancy, which I denied, told him to keep his distance and bowed towards the invader, hoping to get at least a quick duel out of him. Needless to say, I got a firebomb to my face. So now my friend charged him and tried to hit him, getting parried effortlessly and killed. I refilled my life, got my weapons ready, and even scored a few hits...which did next to no damage. Next thing I know, I was parried, killed, and on top of all, pointed down at. Now what really made me mad was not the fact that I was killed or that somebody tried to lure us out by lobbing shit at us. What really got me that I was just a dozen or so hours into the game, tried my best to be a good sport, knowing exactly nothing about it - and then get said "You are not good enough". Yeah, no shit, Sherlock. We know that already. But this is no reason to feel superior just because you have more hours into the game than money on your bank account. That just means you had more time than us to learn what this game IS. I have nothing against invaders, harder difficulties in games or something along those lines. I played a bunch of games that were called "unfair" or "RNG-based" and know that most of these complaints are bullshit (Darkest Dungeon comes to mind, for example). BUT I have something against some of the players that are just assholes, be it hosts that run in circles to get their next summon or invaders that try their hardest just to piss people off. When I get invaded, I try to hold my ground and just do my best against him or her. I don't drag it out, nor am I disrespectful. The least I can expect is the same, isn't it? TL;DR: Don't be assholes. Especially to people you think are new. If you are, maybe someday there will be no one to invade anymore. And that would suck.
Thank you, finally someone that understands. Use the weapon for the situation, not just to use the weapon. People complaining that they loose too much because they only know how to use one weapon annoys me. If you want to win you have to adapt to your opponent, find his weakness and use it. And the easiest way to do that is switching weapons.
I love going to the crucifixion woods with way of the blue and dry fingering. Not really trying to start a fight club but just for the chaos of everyone in a big free for all! Lots of fun and get a lot of funny clips
I think my favorite part of this game is summoning friends (some of which who are new to the game) and immediately popping dried fingers for the area. Granted some areas are literal CANCER to play through, like the High Wall, but it's pretty fun to fight through the levels with a fuck load of twinks and normal invaders
ALSO. random thought, but does anyone else love the fact that the thorns armor, THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM THAT IS TEARS, was implemented before tears was?
Saint, this was a great video. You nailed the interweaving of not forcing weapons and not forcing opinions and really made a great response in general. Even though invaders in general have a pretty bad reputation from the old salt lords, you over the past year and a half or so have helped create a phenomenal community!
"...have the mental capacity of children." FINALLY SOMEBODY SAID IT OUT LOUD, THANK YOU SAINT. I never thought I could like You or respect and agree with You more, but I guess I can.
the idea of invasions first scared me, on my second play through now and i outplayed an invader who cared about emotes too much, safe to i could taste the salt. it tasted good. the bloodthirst begins.
I love to invade, and I love to be invaded... dried finger runs are the most fun I've had in the game. Sometimes I do dried finger runs with way of the blue so that I have a ton of red and blue with every bit between bonfires. Absolutely ruthless, so much fun!
Hot diggity damn that jump at 4:20 was clean as hell. EDIT: The guy's splitleaf went out almost immediately after you commented about how long the buff seemed to last. 12:40
Around dark souls 1&2 when I first started playing I really wasn't too fond of invasions. Played in and out but wasn't feeling it. Dark souls 3 really got me out of the feeling and invading is practically all I do. Love it.
Man, this is a good video. There's a certain decorum to Dark Souls that varies from player to player in how they address or react to invasions. I.e. while one invader may detest gankers, whereas another will see the multitude of opponents as its own challenge. I can think of a dozen niche situations and match-ups that vary on their respectability. However, whether a certain play style is respectable or not, it does not change that damn near everything is fair game in Dark Souls, and there's an underappreciated regard for that.
Was literally just thinking about, I wonder if Saint ever plays as a blue because as an invader I find it pretty fun to play the other side its a nice switch up and then you put this video out
Great video. You've always talked about how ridiculous some people can be when it comes to their opinion of invasions. I think I agree when you say some hosts are just afraid to die, which begs the question of why they play online.
Once I won a 2v1 and straight afterwards the host added me to a HACKER WATCHLIST! Because now I quote "it's impossible to kill me that quickly." I swear he doesn't know how bleed works....
I think youre right. Thats the difference between guys who used to invade but gave up on it and guys that sticked to it. I have to say, I gave up on it too at one point after months of invading though. The seed of the giants was too much for me. But guess what...it got nerfed...way too late in my opinion but they did it afterall. And Im invading with 4 characters all the time since then. I still have a problem with the fact that you can summon anyone if youre using a password - I think that ruins the whole low and mid level invading because you have to twink just to compete (and while youre twinking you on the flipside fucking over every legit, new player host). If youre twinked out its fun of course..but its some what of a shame that every second host you meet in the Church or in Farron Keep is using DLC or endgame equipment (and so do you). Anyways I really enjoy invading and always have. But another topic: Today they finally confirmed that there will be Dark Souls remaster (as you all probably heard by now). I think thats fucking awesome, I loved that game and I loved the invasions. Heres the thing: They already said they gonna "expand" the summoning and invading just like DS3. But I really hope it stops there. Yea..many people hated the backstabs in that game..and yes, they were super powerful. But they were part of the game and I hope they stay like they were. The nice thing about the old backstabs were that healing right in the face of your opponent was really bad for you health...you could insta-punish that stuff. Also you could insta punsih anybody who turned their back on you and tried to run away. Or anybody who roll-spammed the whole time. Backstabs were never a real issue for me anyways..I simply became really good at counter-backstabs (when a guy goes for that circling stuff..you go ahead with him, change direction and stab that bs fishing bitch). I like DS3 pvp...I attapted on how to punish estus spam or roll spam..but if somebody is determent to just run from you there is little to do....and its annyoing. It has its pro and cons..and overall I love it. But if I think of DS1 I want that DS1 combat back. If they mess around here it might become a DS3 clone and thats stupid. I want my pros and cons just like they used to be. To me personal the BS was more a pro than a con but I understand everybody who thinks different. Thing is: There are so many DS titles with different pros and cons..if you dont like one particular..well, please pick another. Whats your take on that? Sorry for the superlong text lol..its kinda on my mind..I really hope they not turn it into DS3-b. EDIT: Turned that comment also into a reddit discussion with a litte more in-depth thoughts and stuff. Check it out if youre interested :) www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/7psfqq/dark_souls_1_remaster_core_mechanic_changes/
Thinking about this now. I think it's pretty obvious this is an attempt to get DS3 fans to buy and play DS1. Now, there's been a lot of quality of life changes from DS1 to now. I don't think you're going to get DS3 folks into a game with 4 directional rolling and havel mom katana flipping. Or SL 1 chaos infused twinks at the undead burg. On the same side of that conversation, Bamco/From have to be aware that the majority of people feel like invasion PvP is too one sided in DS3. How they decide to balance that, I won't even guess. Right now, we've seen a 10 second clip. We've all read that there are password summons and 6 player worlds. I'll go so far as to presume they mean 1 host, 3 phantoms, 2 invaders. I won't speculate any more than that. I'll leave that to these high speed hot shot channels that can milk 10 minute videos out of an 11 second clip of our boy lighting the firelink shrine bonfire. Until we get more info there's no telling if this is just a graphical update with new online interaction or a complete overhaul. I'm just hype to get my Silver Knight sword back.
Yo, youre fast Saint! Yea, good points. Its probably naive to think that will just give us DS1 back like it used to be, just for the nerds who still praise that game (like me) haha. I also took my comment and turned it into a reddit discussion. I re-phrased it a bit and added a little more depth to it. Heres the link for anybody who is interessted in the conversation! www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/comments/7psfqq/dark_souls_1_remaster_core_mechanic_changes/
even if it is just a dark souls 3 copy, it will still breathe new life and a new player base to the game, which means more invaders, and more tanks to spank. However, I haven't had a chance to play the original dark souls and I think that a play through or 2 would be super awesome, and to experience some of that famed dark souls 1 poise.
