Don't be silly, Saint. The obvious solution to a broken leg is to amputate it completely so you don't have to worry about it doing 1700 damage when you shove it up someone's chest cavity. Wait, what?
Its likw ooooh look at me i got 1 parry and one shot him im so good at parrying i intetialy use a dark dagger on my pyro cause its wayy more fun to see them panic than die in 1 hit or place a seething chaos and see them panic even more at low health
Well, the chaos dagger is like becoming a staple or signature for most pro players, my question is. What would happen if from soft nerf dagger? Would that kind of ruin the one shot builds, or would most decent players are able to kill more likely pro players. I know that sounds like a bad idea, but what would happen? I play a card that every year or so, a certain card, in the format, is dominating the format and know but mirror matching the deck. The only who could is who ever get the first turn. Or by luck either way. But seriously one card isn't on the level or even or viable or to strong. Something must to be fix to even every item until there is and equilibrium, which there is some kind of balance but different actions and its philosophy or its elements to other challengers. Dark souls is all funky and sickening. However i love playing the game for fun I understand but "WHEN THE HELL ARE FAITH BUILDS ARE GOING TO SHINE!?" Lightning builds are effeciant of they do. You have to at least do an extra attack to the opponent, I mean, a great sword in strength could deal two or three hit kill, depending by poise wise as well. My lvl 125 faith poise build does crap or im not that good (its a crap build but does decent damage) seriously its been a problem ever since. Lets hope the remastering of dark souls could solve alot of problems.
JAX. Exe faith builds rely on poise wich in duals wont ever work i suggest for invasions use a blessed lothric greatsword amd a lightning lothric sword also in invasioms try uit ure spells on parry spammers loghtnimg stake is a great rollcatch if they roll arpind you
You can tell who is new in pvp when they complain about the backstabs in dark souls 3. They never went through ninja flip, ultra weapon, hornet ring instant lagstab hell. But they will... They will.
they say they're going to fix the glitches with ds1, I don't know if they consider backstab chaining a glitch or no, but it's something to think about, either way im not buying until i see gameplay footage, hoping it's not just just a straight port
Imagine a world where they fix toggle escapes but not infinite stun lock. Yay! Seeing as their is technically nothing happening in a back stab chain that constitutes a glitch (it's just understanding player reaction, positioning and the way the game works) I can't see them calling this a glitch. That said, I have a hard time believing Bamco will release the backstab fest that is DS1 on all the poor DS3 babbies. Not a good sales tactic.
“Howdy par’dners it’s your old cowpoke Saint here, and today we’re going to be showcasing double reverse backstep backstabiollis” - Yeehawmentary. Ay, it’s no worse than your Aussie impression!
Kaiser der Wölfe B-B-B-B-But I need the ringslot for Havel ring so I could wear full artorias with RKUGS farron dance sword and a great shield to stay under 90%
My favourite ring in the game, I ALWAYS equip it if I know someone is gonna bsckstab fish or if I am in an invasion/gank where I have less health, the Dragonscale ring is a godsend, has saved my ass more times then I can count
What a great, in-depth explanation. Hope you post this one on Reddit (you rarely do these days), because people can learn a lot from this. Although, if we're honest, people who complain about backstabs in [current year], especially with regard to DkS 3, probably aren't exactly the kind of dudes listening to reason, eh? It's a joy to see how you good you've become at BS'ing, but it's also bitter-sweet, because I still suck at them in comparison. The half-year break I took really shows, and too often I tend to fall back into my habits of playing rustic in invasions instead of practicing because I still focus too much on winning. And that's what people don't get (and what I wanted to emphasize in my video on the topic): BS'ing is so risky, it takes so much practice, and it means that, for a long time, you sacrifice winning invasions for just learning how to do it. Those "lagstabs" people complain about are simply the result of your opponent having taken a lot of time to refine his booty-grabbin' skills, and this should be met with respect, not with disconnects and angry Reddit posts.
I would agree with you about respecting the backstab if perfecting your skills at Dark Souls PvP was respectable or impressive to me in any way. It's not. It means you have no life.
You and me both. I've taken up fishing since watching Goof and Saint. However, as much as it pains me to admit it I fall back into my own playstyle because it works for me and I win that way. I like winning just as much as anybody else but when you grab that booty it's just so satisfying. The hardest thing for me is just finding that opening. I know how it works and I have a basic understanding of the fundamentals but my reaction timing rivals that of a dead person and I get so caught up in the moment I miss my opportunities for that cheeky bs. I just need to keep practicing and learn to calm down in the heat of battle so I can better recognize my moment and not be so concerned about whether or not I am going to win that invasion.
I didn't think Namco would have the audacity to release dark souls 1 as is, but it's looking like that is going to be the case. I can't imagine people's reactions (those who never played it before).
Seeing the amount of people complaining now is hilarious, these are the same people that trashed DS3 PvP for being too easy now saying DS3 had the best PvP while DS1 had the worst in the series.
Saint, not too many months I remember you talking about how out of the world it was to see Goof roll backstab through straight sword spam. And now you're doing it! You a fast learner boi.
Patterns teach us how to play correctly and at the same often create a comfort zone which teach us how to play incorrectly. Those who end up comfortable and complain are just refusing to recognize a new pattern to adjust to, they're become content to no longer adapt.
Your kick is affected by your weapon. Follower's Torch for whatever reason, does insane stamina damage if you kick someone, often enough for an instant guard break. A BS fisher will typically be running around you with their shield or weapon guard up. A well placed kick and can leave them open for ripostes.
Oh shit, didn't know that. I always wanted to use the followers torch but couldn't find any use for it (and it weighs a ton for just a cool looking weapon)
People are always going to whine. If some all powerful being came down to earth and said 'you guys are fucking this up, here is an infinite source of clean energy, stop fighting over oil' someone somewhere would have a problem with it. Good video.
i'm a new sub only couple weeks or so but since i've been injured out of work and i can't get enough of your channel. love your videos. smashed through lore invasions and randoms in between.. dude some great shit i learned a hell of a lot and love the couple times i get to see ganker hatemail and you calmly explain how their logic is shit.
A perfect way to avoid back stabs is to just sit around with dried finger on at Great Belfry, wait until I've been invaded by Saint (or any other will do), start to "play the level", so to speak, run a playstyle like I do and rely on unlocked mode and playing like you're locked on to them, locking and switching to a different weapon, throwing in random turn and burns, wait until a blue shows so Saint (or any other) can get back up in the form of another thinking human being, fight against the PvE and PvP of the level, kill most if not all enemies, lose your blues, restock the reds estus, get double teamed, perform seemingly random tactics, still simultaneously switching between equipped and weapons in you inventory, make sure to have while you do this all and enjoy the challenge of facing two very skilled opponents who have to contend with friendly fire, have your internet fall down the crap shoot so it can add even more to the chaos, and then win the entire event with a surprised look on your face because avoiding death was never the point of it all, but having fun was, but still rub it in their faces afterwards since your resilience knows no bounds and then maybe, maybe not get overly excited that you got to give a good time to your Saint_Riot - senpai - sama - san, and expend any lingering adrenaline with a victory jackoff, or a regular jackoff because fun was had regardless.
Thanks for posting the music, saint_riot! I don't play Dark Souls 3 all that often, but I really like your channel. In particular, I appreciate your... pride, I suppose. You're an invader and you're proud of it. That's really cool in my book.
I used to be one of those backstab-bitchers, before Project "patience of a saint" Goof went out of his way to explain the particulars of it and why it might look so wonky for an observer to see. Still can't say I'm fond of the playstyle, just because I like my swordfights to look and feel like swordfights, but that's just a personal foible of mine
Backstabs have always been an interesting part of Dark Souls. I agree though, I don't get why people complain so much about them these days. I feel like its more a matter of what you've said in other videos: that people (for some reason) get upset for dying in dark souls. What was the special edition of the first game called again...? Oh, right. Prepare to Die edition. I guess some people haven't gotten the message yet.
Lol at a BLUE SPIRIT, an AUTO SUMMONED PROTECTOR, sitting and watching the ACTUAL INVADER kill the host for two minutes like it's an honour duel. The absolute state of this game. And it's still like this. You still see invaders or blues just ignoring their entire objective to actively sabotage the people they're supposed to help.
Heya Saint_Riot! I just found your channel earlier today and have been really enjoying your content. I've only been playing DS3 (or souls in general) for a few months now, but I've absolutely fallen in love with the game. I've put in about 250+ hours at this point, and have recently started getting into PVP. (never summoned a friendly phantom in my life btw, PvE, invasions or otherwise). I like to call myself "The Least Salty Souls Player" as a little joke because I take EVERY death as a learning experience and do my best to never become upset. Nearly every single death I've ever experienced could've been avoided if I played better. That mindset has been crucial to my improvement in souls. Right now I'm doing an "anti-invasion" run, where I'm always dry-fingered and I'm built specifically to take on invaders. (once again, no friendly phantoms will ever set foot in my world). Hopefully one day I'll get a message telling me that Saint_Riot has invaded my world! Until then, keep up the great videos! P.S. I thought the audio levels in this video were a tad high, but maybe that's just me. Not a big deal either way.
Back in DS1 it was great because they didn't have hardly any recovery frames. Nowadays the only thing worse than the medium shield parry frames are the Farron Greatsword parry frames, if memory serves me.
Knowing that the 4th sword swing doesn't do enough but stun to stop you from backstabbing, now that's some game mechanics knowledge right there and you got rewarded for it. Sexy.
After reading some comments, is backstabbing in ds1 really that bad? The remaster will be my first time playing it, so will I need to learn a whole lot more about backstabs?
Videos like these help me appreciate the work someone puts in when they absolutely wreck me. Except the parry spammers who parry at least 12 times in a fight and the laggy greatswords.
There is some sort of "sweetspot" when your backstabbing someone walking away from you. It helps to bs when you are at their side slightly, and really close on their booty, which feels like it gives your backstab more range instead of being directly behind them.
Gwyn had to bribe Seath for learning that Lightning Spear trick, assemble a huge army, share his power among them and whatnot to defeat the Everlasting Dragons, while Witches of Izalith only pretended to help as they hid their secret weapon, Chaos Dagger(anything's a dildo if...) for the ultimate DS3 invasion experience. It all makes sense, call Vaati!
Wherever I get salty about a backstab it’s because of one of two things, either I’m already salty about something stupid (usually me playing like shit) or the person I’m up against is lagging to shit and, at least on my screen, I’m getting teleported 20ft away from were I’m standing into there backstabs
Im pretty sure most people only have a problem with backstabs when you get hornet ring chaos dagger oneshot backstabbed by McDonalds wifi invader from across the room while you are rolling.
I've actually never had any problems with DS3's backstabbing since they take either skill or luck to pull off, unlike in DS1 where it makes me salty to the max. I've fought a few people who are really good at it and was like "Damn, these people are good!" Also learned a bit from this vid, and I think you've made me want to try gank spanking again.
I personally always thought backstabbing needed reworked. I think the main issue is actually the fact that when back stabbed the player losses control of their character. (The animation) If you were simply given an attack bonus for hitting someone's back side you could still output similar damage if you link multiple hits but because the player still had control of their character it is easier to make the conection that they fucked up. Backstabbing has always just been far too much of a reward, without equal effort.
the fact that you're locked into an animation is not a reward, it's balancing. you did a ton of damage and now your victim gets i frames from being knocked down, and also can't be hit by your teammates during the animation. You don't understand the fundamental concept behind there being an animation. No one would understand that they got backstabbed if they just suddenly took a ton of damage from a normal looking hit. That is not how players' minds work.
I never have a problem with backstabs. The thing that annoys me the most is getting hit when I'm no where close In range. That happens 98% of the time. On my screen I'm not anway but apparently I am in range on their screen. So you don't roll out the way cause you think you won't get hit but you do then you die. It sucks.
The easiest way is unlock, roll and as you're rolling be holding the left analog stick toward the opponent. When you come out of the roll you'll be facing them. You can roll into them and sometimes through them, or into them and then walk around them a little bit. It takes practice to determine if you're in the right position, but just a little trial and error and you'll know when you did it right or wrong. It's all about knowing how far a roll will take you and where your opponent is going to end up after their attack.
You see, the farron greatsword is actually used for setup parries. Using it with the black knight shield is pure ecstasy. Nobody expects some tactical play with the break dance blade so when you see some R1 abuse you parry that and it's almost better than your hand XD
farron great sword is better at pve than pvp if find. while those first two swings of the L1 two handed attack can effectively stunlock (if you dont get riposted), it only really works in a tight corridor or section, and it is, as you said, insanely predicable. I am as guilty of this as anyone, but it does bear stating that it really kinda isnt a good pvp weapon.
8:35 Great thanks for the hint about getting out of those weird "I turn but I get backstabbed" moments ! That's helpful ! Ok you explain how that works. Still. I'm whining about that part of the backstab mechanic ( the second part of how the game checks if the backstab will happen) because it's bullshit. It's not intuitive at all, and instead of checking if the character is "still in range" it should checks if they are still not facing the other character doing the stabbing. I would prefer getting teleported out of a roll into a backstab because I was still not facing them (it happens anyway with lag), rather than fucking facing people and getting backstabbed because thank you darksouls. But hey, at least now I know that supposedly rolling away/walking away is supposed to save me from those backstabs , so all is good I guess. But I don't get the whole "people whine about backstab" anyway, I mean, at the start of the video it seems that in your experience people hate on "trick" backstabs like unlocking after a roll, predicting a parry, etc... I never encountered anyone hating on those myself , I mean it takes practice at least, and I can easily get behind (get it ?) the concept of those backstabs. But wow, you must get messages from a lot of casuls if they instantly hate on any "vanilla" backstab you do.
Voxyld yeah like I said if the animation was smoother no one would complain because it would "look" good. If it looked like DS1 backstabs but operated like ds3 less people would complain. That said, people have been saying BS is "dishonorable" since DS. Even after the DS2 "double confirm" the "bs is dishonorable" mindset has continued.
can you try having a greatsword behind your shield equip slot? if its in your left hand you dont get the running attack so you are able to run up and do more damage then your regular SS. idk just thonking here
I'll be honest one of my favorite weapons is the farron meme sword but you know what I never do with it? Go for three L1s in a row! I hate seeing people do it over and over and over, switch it up man! Whenever someone challenges me with my favorite weapon they get parried, usually WITH the weapon XD
It’s pretty funny, the only ones to get mad at backstabs are usually the same exact people that run around a level with an invader biting at their heels, mashing summon signs at every turn. Gankers. Kids are also another example, however I’m thinking these two things go hand in hand.
Dark Souls is rated M for Mature. If you find a child playing this game it is your civic duty to force them to stop by any means necessary. We have to be the parents these children don't have.
i mean, what's the point of spamming perseverance against a longsword anyway. you're already 2 handing a greatsword, you most likely poise through everything but the WA R2. if you get a good opportunity i guess the neutral poise and absorption are worth a cast but why risk getting backstabbed when you can already easily out trade the opponent
I mean I really like under rated weapons but I'm more duelist than invader, for instance mornes GH when you r1 then wa and while they're going for a backstab they take 700+ damage. Or you get backstabbed depending on spacing but hey it's worth it xd can't make risks like that in 3v1s though!
Sure you can! I'd be willing to be Morne's Rage hits more people in invasions than duels. The difference being, if you hit it in a duel it's almost guaranteed game over. In invasions they can heal. But hit them with a hunter charm before the morne's rage and that story changes.
saint_riot the beauty of greathanmers in my opinion is no-one expects charged r2s and rolls for a backstab but they have incredible tracking and they get smashed for 900 and I'm glad others see the beauty!!!
People used to LOVE backstabs back in the origional Dark Souls... Then people complained about NOT being able to backstab in Dark Souls 2, because almost everyone was using either the ring or the clown suit. To be honest, I don't think it's just the noobs complaining, but also those who used to play Dark Souls 1 and 2, and have gotten used to using those particular things, and have become scrubs (Due to mindset limitations). There's a simple cure for this, send them back to Dark Souls 2, and tell them to stay there, or for them to stop playing the game, since backstabs have always, and will always be a part of Dark Souls.
I haven't watched the video yet, saving for later, so ignore me if i'm way off mark but I'm assuming this is related to that screen shot you posted on twitter. As you become a bigger channel you're gonna see a greater volume and magnitude of stupid opinions/opinions you disagree with and you can't make a video referring to them all the time. you're better than their shallow analysis dude it's fine
Honestly, people complaining about this AND DSI backstabs have never dealt with laggy lvl 602 Brazilian Havel Butfface Jesters monsters who backstab you even after you've rolled twice away from them and who then outdamage your giant hammer with a Dark Chaos Blade buffed with Dark Weapon with a Dark Caitha's Chime. .................. *Weeps*
DarkBlood Souls People hate whatever isn’t an easy win. I’ve had so many people point down simply because I nearly killed them before they almost lagged themselves to death with mass summoning
Where are all the ringed city invasions? That whole inner wall area is incredible. So many invader tricks and traps with untrue white ring and swapping weapons/rings per section. It's like a whole different game. Why do you only do mid level areas?
off_pudding ring city invasions are often very difficult youtubers like these look for noobs and casuals, and while there are plenty in ring city they are often rocking complete builds. Invaders hate being on equal ground to a host lol.
I really don't think he's one of those youtubers... He's not twinked out. He shows his losses. He's also a pretty good player and I don't think he "hates being on equal ground." lol. If anything he probably just likes those areas or that's where all the people are at.
I find myself getting really angry at how many lag fests there are in DS3. Losing 1v1 because your opponents is blinking around the map hitting you with attacks you don't see is just infuriating. Do you get this in many of your invasions? (I'm on PC/EU FYI)
Occasionally, but not often. I'm on PS4 so the number of people playing on wifi is huge. But you can differentiate between latency (this person lives far away from me) and lag (this player's character model is on ice skates) and then the dreaded wombo combo of latency + lag (I see his character model, but I know it's not actually where I see it). My issues got a lot better when I started using an ethernet cable instead of playing on wi-fi.
Backstabs are backstabs. But lag-stabs however, getting back stabbed from ten feet away is obnoxious. It just is. When people use lag as a weapon it's bullshit. Lag is DS3 meta.
Do you know what ? I'm gonna complain on people that play on PC ! Ohh ! There are so bad I'm really complaining ! AHHH I hate these peoples All are Casuls ! Duh blabla Love your choices of musics 💝
Host using axe, Siant names it hammer... Well i guess it is mandate now. But for the topic - BS are part oof the game. So if it exist why not to use it? Yeah it is way more hard to get the booty than in DS1, but that is the point - if goons can not get out of their static playstyle and escape back stabs it THEIR fault, not the game's fault obviously. Buuuut i gues somebody can press only 1 button and process only one action afterall. Good job, Saint. Keep it up
I'm only 2:30 in but I have to say that in all of these BS catches so far, IF THEY JUST ROLLED LIKE A NORMAL HUMAN NONE OF THESE PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HIT. STOP BLAMING DARK SOULS WHEN YOU FAIL TO REACT TO A SITUATION LIKE A NORMAL CORPOREAL BEING. IF YOU WANT A GAME WHERE YOU DON'T HAVE TO RELY ON YOURSELF TO MAKE SPLIT SECOND DECISIONS THEN SOLITAIRE MIGHT BE A SOLID ALTERNATIVE Thank you.
In a word: Salt. People don't like to lose, and part of the blame is on the RU-vid Community. You make it LOOK easy, with Backstab Montages. Don't stop, simply because scrubs would rather blame Mechanics (Also, nobody Lags in Dark Souls 3, it's always the other guy's connection) than realize the truth: They got outplayed. The only guys complaining about these mechanics, like the Estus Flask, are the ones that don't know how to counter it, and who are looking for an Easy Win. There is no Easy Win. If you have an attack that can't be Parried, bye and large, it can be Backstabbed. (An exception being a Crossbow, which can be Blocked.) That's how they wrote the game.
Agreed with all of this. From a balance perspective, the fact that you can back stab a two handed ultra and not parry it makes sense. Almost like...it was...intended?
