This one's a BIG one. Witch of Izalith = Velka = Furtive Pygmy, I think there is a pretty compelling case here. See for yourself!

The theory might hold the greatest secret that that one being could be a human, a god, and a witch, that perhaps is not actual difference. The gods are people who gained some power and tried to claim themselves as something different to worshiped. Not even Nito is something special, calling him the first dead always sounded odd, which makes me think he really might be something along the lines of Aldrich, a person who consumed others until they became something else. The witches were simply a cover for the power gained by humans in trying to understand dragons, which is why intelligence is a thing with it and why it uses fire like a dragon, and yet a true dragon brought sorceries as if more pure. And as we have also learned, humans can turn into dragons too

this has been 6 years but the difference is human got the dark souls gods have the fires soul? so their strength is tied the to the flame so it fading means their power also fading and nito first of the dead i think means first of undead the boney guys calcium boys and btw in ds1 we never ever fought the witch and nito on their full strength they're strength after all is tied to the flame and they literally use it alot meaning they spreaded the power out like nito description of him using his soul to spread death meaning probably making the undead race undead never have existed before edit:and the flame of chaos is like the fire it needs soul to be feed but because of that dark girl they straight up got their food cut meaning they faded out thought out the time but they are probably like the flame eternal

Kaathe says that "After the advent of fire, the ancient lords found the three souls. But your progenitor found a fourth, unique soul." Progenitor meaning "male ancestor" Kaathe could be wrong, lying or it could be a small error in the translation, however this moreso points to Manus having found the dark soul. Manus and the witch could still be married and the witch could still be Velka and have escaped the chaos flame, however it doesnt seem to be her that first found the dark soul. In the intro it states that the pygme waits for the fire to fade. And it doesnt really sound like Velka is waiting, but moreover being a pretty active figure. The Witch could also be Velka without Velka having to have found the dark soul. Enjoyed the video though, cool theory.

Thank you friend! I see what you are saying, but I think the male form of progenitor only refers to the way the used to talk of old Roman houses. Like how when someone has someone introduce them they say so and so of house whatever, son of this son of that. Is what progenitor in that case means. But the root definition of the word doesn't have to only be male!

THE Witch of Izalith is a title. She has 7 daughters, who may also be considered witches, but not THE Witch of Izalith. We know who 4 of the daughters were. 1 other was the corpse near Ceasless Discharge, but we are only unsure of who the last 2 are. But it is thought they were consumed or sacrificed to the Bed of Chaos
@PunkZombie1300
@PunkZombie1300 5 лет назад
@@JTMarch86 The seven daughters we know are Quelana, Quelaag, The Fair Lady, the one guarding The Bed of Chaos, the corpse near Ceaseless Discharge, and the two orbs on either side of the Bed. That's seven. However, the fact that we find Quelana's set on the corpse means it might actually be Quelana and she's a ghost of some sort. And the two orbs only have their staffs next to the Bed, we don't see any sort of body, transformed or otherwise. This could explain the three surviving daughters. Though this theory of the Witch being both Velka and the Pygmy is jossed due to the Ringed City DLC, there still may be some credence to the Witch being Velka.

Fun fact, etymologically the word Sin is derived from an ancient Greek archery term which means "to miss the mark/target". One might say that the Witch of Izalith missed the mark by trying to recreate the First Flame - she sinned

Well deity means "god or goddess" obviously. It also means "creator or supreme being", which we can definitely apply here I think. Plus Goddess simply means "a female deity, or a woman who is adored, especially for her beauty". Which I mean, Witch of Izalith have them smooth lips dawg. ;)

I would like to think that the soul of life and the dark soul made her a deity? Even if her and her children look human, the soul definitely made her more powerful that other "deities" like gwynevere, gwyndolin, ect. So possibly she was referred to as a deity because of the souls, and not her race which is probably human.
@damaeonnoland9050
@damaeonnoland9050 6 лет назад
In my opinion, humans can become deitys and vice versa baced on what soul your body holds since everyone is a pigmie, or a vessel for a soul. So if you had a dark soul your body would embody that soul regardless of what came before. And, is it a stretch to assume that velka would just conjoin the sliver of her old soul with her new dark soul. I'd imagine it is similar to how we consume larger souls in extange for many smaller souls. I've always thought that souls were less of a direct currently but a sort of algorithm for your potential power or ability.

Oh my goodness I just realised! To add so much to your video: Snow! No seriously. Painted world of Ariamis is covered in Snow. In Dark Souls 2, Eleum Loyce, home of the "old chaos" we have, oh wouldn't you know, snow. There also resides a shard of manus. These are so far the only places that have snow in Dark Souls. Ice and Fire are opposites, which again is something you talk about: opposites. We see ice sprawled out like chaos when first entering Eleum Loyce AND HOLY SHIT. Guess what another thing is which is heavily featured in Eleum Loyce?? INVISIBILITY. Just like you mentioned. Members of chaos can be invisible. People in Ariamis can be invisible. Eleum Loyce has invisible people. And guess where the Eye of the Priestess (the thing that lets you see the invisible) is found? In a giant flame on an alter. A chaos flame I would wager. What other kind of flame would it be? It also looks very similar to warmth too, a pyromancy. Also it looks like the Knights of Eleum Loyce could go hollow, which would mean they are beings of dark. And it looks like the chaos flame had something to do with that. Loyce Soul description: "Soul of the Knights of Loyce. The Knights of Loyce were taken by Chaos, and ***lost all sense of purpose and being.**** The few woeful souls that trudged back home were guided by some faint vestige of self. This soul is pure sorrow, and only Alsanna can put it to rest." "by some faint vestige of self." Sounds very similar to the whole deal of "Nostalgia" with Manus and again hollowing that we see in characters like Lucatiel. Likewise, as for the charred Knights: "These Knights of Loyce lacked all sense of self, and were driven only by the urge to expunge any who might disturb the flame, even former compatriots" Doesn't this sound like they have hollowed? It's very similar. Again, we see a similar loss of self in Lucatiel who is hollowing, and other NPCs like the Map guy and rock lady. Also Soul of Alsanna: "Soul of Alsanna, oracle of Eleum Loyce, who prays in silent vigilance..." Didn't you mention oracles in your video? Also. Remember how you talked about Exiles? And remember how the king was supposed to fight chaos? Well combine those and here's Lud's description: "Soul of Lud, who served the Ivory King. Each of the Ivory King's seven beasts was conferred a specific duty. Lud's was the mercy killing of exiles. The wondrous soul of this beast can be used to acquire numerous souls, or to create something of great worth." The mercy killing of exiles. HMMM. (Zallen's is the same). I wonder if Lud and Zallen's names have some sort of meaning? This is usually the case. Also tangent I just realized he had seven beasts. I wonder where the other four went. --- One other snow area. I've only just started thinking about this, but I need to go. Irithyill, the frigid valley, has fire witches. So there's that. I always thought those seemed a little odd to place them there... Now it doesn't seem so out of place. I'm sure there's more we could find here. --- I have no idea where I'm going with this, but these are so many random connections that I'm making right now, and I keep thinking of more. This is usually the sign of a good theory in my view. Thanks for the video. Perhaps you could do a better job of combining these and ordering them in a video or something. Also just a bit of trivia. Ivory straight sword: ""Sword of Fabian, knight of Eleum Loyce. This blade, crafted with ivory ore native to the land, harnesses souls to slash at foes. Sir Fabian led the loyal knights of Eleum Loyce straight into the depths of chaos to exterminate the terrible things that dwelled there, but not one of the selfless knights returned"" Interesting that both Gwyn and the Ivory King attempted the same thing and had the same result. I never realized that. Loyce Knights are to Silver Knights as Charred Loyce Knights are to Black Knights. ONE MORE THING. The first Dark Souls 3 DLC features ....."SNOW." HMMMMMMMMMMMM. If it has anything to do with Velka or Chaos or Firekeepers.....

And one note: I always asked myself why the Witch of Izalith never had a proper name, it was just a title. It´s clearly an effort to hide her identity. By the way, the Profane Flame seems like a fire with a more predominant dark aspect. It has that strong desire imbued into it, much like the abyss and it consumed humans when Yhorm went to link the fire. So without Yhorm to keep it in check the Profane Flame got out of control and consumed all the humans (and their humanity) of the capital. Much like the Chaos Flame.

I think I may have an idea who Ceaseless Discharge originally was. I believe that he may have once been the individual known as...Flame God Flaan, wife of Gwynevere. This makes sense for several reasons. Firstly, the Sunlight Princess Ring specifies that Flaan is a male god and his title as Flame God ties him very closely to fire, obviously. I don't think one could get any closer to fire than Ceaseless Discharge himself, as he's literally oozing liquid fire from his body. His size also seems to fit, being of a comparable size to the couch we see in Anor Londo that Gwynevere supposedly used when she was still there. The ring also states that Gwynervere left Anor Londo before marrying Flame God Flaan and presumably having children. And even the heavenly, angelic children make more sense if the father was Ceaseless Discharge. If we accept the theory that The Witch of Izaleth is Velka, and that ties her to the bird like crow people in the Painted World, would it not also make sense that her children would carry the same bird like tendencies in their blood/genes? Black crow feathers influenced by Gwynevere's nature as the Sunlight Goddess would easily explain the white feathers associated with angelic beings and dilution of the crow blood could explain why more human features were retained, such as regular arms and the like. I like this theory because it ties together the bloodlines and the stories of Gwyn and Izaleth and makes the whole world seem far more cohesive and real. But of course this raises the question, why do we find CD in the Demon Ruins and not with Gwynevere? From here the speculation goes into the utterly insane part. I believe that the Ring of the Sun Princess may have in fact been a wedding ring of sorts. It states that it's a ring "Granted to those who enter a covenant with Gwynevere." It's a rather impersonal way of describing a marriage, but it could be seen that way none the less. The charred orange ring states that CD "fool that he is, he readily dropped it." I don't know what Discharge looked like before his transformation, but afterwards, he only seems to have one arm and presumably only one hand. In DS1, we can only wear 1 ring per hand, and I believe that this was his problem as well. To prove his loyalty to Gwynervere, and made a fool by love, he discarded the orange charred ring to accept hers, and in so doing, sacrificed himself to the chaos flame within himself. It's fair to assume that a lot changed about him as a result of this transformation, and we already know what Gwynevere does when things start to go bad. Like when the sun began to fade in Anor Londo, she left, abandoning him to forever watch over the corpse of someone he believes is his dead sister. I feel like this theory covers more than enough dark and depressing themes that it fits right into dark souls, and I always felt that Dark Souls was always missing it's incredibly tragic and depressing love story, unless you count Artorias and Ciaran. Just a theory of course.

The one problem with this is that the description of the Orange Charred Ring says that Ceaseless was afflicted with sores that spout lava from BIRTH, and that he was clumsy and deformed etc.. so i really doubt a beauty/fertility goddes like Gwynevere would marry someone who was already covered in lava filled burning sores and deformed etc..

@comradecal5756
@comradecal5756 7 лет назад
+DZ VW Manus created mankind using the dark soul and divided his soul up like Gwynn to create shards of humanity. Like Gwynn he still possesses great strength even with his soul divided and it was this strength that would turn him into the beast that is manus and create the abyss. "Fertive Pygmy" taken literally means secretive small creature which the Witch of Izalith clearly isn't small or secretive but a human could be. Also note that in the animation where the souls are being taken from the kiln the dark soul is clutched by what appears to be a hollow. It should be noted that manus is often described as a "primeval man" which means one of the first and Manu in Hinduism was the first human and considering that Humanity is the dark soul it can be inferred that he was the fertive pygmy
@comradecal5756
@comradecal5756 7 лет назад
+DZ VW When talking To Marvellous Chester he will say "Oolacile has brought the abyss upon itself .... Fooled by that toothy serpent, they upturned the grave of primeval man and incited his ornery wrath" This implies that the townsfolk of Oolacile had no idea where manus was and they only way they found out was via the omnipotent serpent Kaathe (or perhaps Frampt?) which would suggest he was forgotten by the masses. Additionally it also calls Manus "primeval man" which suggests he was the very first human and with the dark soul being humanity it becomes pretty clear that manus is indeed the Pygmy. A side note is that Kaathe states "After the advent of Fire, the ancient Lords found the three souls. But your progenitor found a fourth, unique soul. The Dark Soul." Unless the Chosen Undead is actually a human (which she clearly isn't as she is a deity who can bestow blessing and intervene in the players world) Velka or something the only mentioned origin of Man is the Primeval man. Manus.

ehhhh honestly it seems like a bit of a reach to get the the Velka/Izalith connection, the descriptions of Velka and the Witch and their histories and personalities are (as far as i can remember) referenced as two purely unique individuals. Velka has been against the gods since the first game, because it is her job to define and punish sin and the gods whether Gwyn or the Witch were sinners and were punished for their transgressions, her powers and associations are also quite different.
@Pomale69
@Pomale69 7 лет назад
Their physical descriptions are never mentioned in-game, and neither are their personalities actually. Though you do see what the Witch looks like in the DS1 opening and in DS3 you find the statue of Velka who actually looks extremely similar. Though you don't see their faces, in the Dark Souls series you often think of someone's headwear as their face, so the "cut off at the bridge of the nose" hood motif is probably not a coincidence. So that's a point in the theory's favor I think. You're right that Velka has always been against the Gods and is set to see them punished for their sins, including the Witch, but he's saying it's possible that when the Witch birthed Chaos and she and her children were destroyed (part of her punishment), she found the Dark in the Chaos. She realized the sin of resisting nature and embraces the Dark, becoming Velka (or just adopting her true name, or alter ego, whatever), and the act of spreading the Dark itself will erase the gods and be a fitting punishment for their mutual sin against nature. The rest of the video presents pretty good evidence that their powers and associations are only different on the surface, but if you look closely you see Chaos and Dark are very closely related, so too must be Velka and the Witch.
@mittag6326
@mittag6326 7 лет назад
It makes quite a lot of sense to me. After comitting the first sin Witch of Izalith devotes herself to fighting sin. That includes fighting sinful gods and trying to "right the wrongs of the past" and helping humans to bring the Age of Men how it was meant to be.

Nice video. My main problem is that the image of the Furtive pygmy doesn't seem to have breasts. It always struck me as being a man. Still I can't offer any insights to the matter.
@SolidSantanero
@SolidSantanero 7 лет назад
Also the simple definition of consume by the Merriam-Webster dictionary: to destroy (something) with fire. The whole "expend" thing seems wrong to me.
@TheAshenHollow
@TheAshenHollow 7 лет назад
The pygmy was likely close to their hollow stage when receiving the Dark Soul and as we seen in Dark Souls, the women aren't walking around rocking double D's. So we can't base our arguments of the gender of the pygmy based on seeing their silhouette from afar. Also that definition of consume certainly isn't the "simple" definition and was even further down than the definition I provided.
@SolidSantanero
@SolidSantanero 7 лет назад
+The Ashen Hollow The pygmy is shown holding a soul. Doesn't say it is the dark soul and doesn't look like a dark soul. Those are your assumptions. Also a quick Google image search can get you a close up of the Pygmy and there are no female breasts. You say no double D's. What about Gwynevere? and let's put in Rosaria as a newer example. Or the daughters of the witch of Izalith. All had breasts so it seems odd that the Pygmy wouldn't if she was a Goddess.
@SolidSantanero
@SolidSantanero 7 лет назад
+Louis Croes It was the third definition by the way. Also easily checked with Google.
@TheAshenHollow
@TheAshenHollow 7 лет назад
So because a silhouette doesn't have large visible breasts that means it isn't a woman? Also if we want to go with that. Neither of the statues of Velka are depicted to have breasts. The fact of the matter is no matter how close we zoom up to the Furtive Pygmy we can't see clearly whether or not it could have titties... Yes, third definition, still considered less than the one I provided.

Wow, there's quite a bit to cover here. You introduce a TON of theories, all seem reasonable, but I find a few problems. I'm not sure if I can remember them all, as there were so many, but I'll try to do a list so it's easier to follower. 1.) Chaos scales with humanity, true. We've seen it, but the first time we are introduced to Dark Pyromancy is in Oolacile, why? "A pyromancy discovered from the Dark of the Abyss by a pyromancer who wandered Oolacile. Conjure a great black flame in one's palm. Black flames are weighty, and inflict physical damage, enough to smack away the mightiest of the shields." 2.) We find out with more of the picture that the Witches had the high hopes that 'men' would learn to control the flame. The power of it scaling with humanity only seem proper, but we also know of flames that scale with Hollowing, which is the exact opposite and associated with dark don't you find that to be an odd contradiction? "A flame catalyst used by pyromancers. Pyromancers rouse this flame to produce various fire arts. The flame rewards those with a thirst of power. The more Hollowed one is, the stronger its effect. Effect: Spell power scales with Hollowing." 3.) We simply 'have' to stop giving credit to the Witches of Izalith for the advancements in Pyromancy. We learn about how the art transformed and became great in Dark Souls 1. Salaman the Master Pyromancer, who was the first "official" and powerful student and Carmina, the one who innovated and revolutionized the art. Anyone else was either birthed from that yarn or around while it was being strung. The piece of lore that give the Witches credit as if they had some relationship with hums i just "blanket lore", as in the same breath we get this piece of information. "A pyromancy tome of Quelana containing her unique spells. These pyromancies can only be taught by a female master. Give to a female pyromancy master to learn Quelana's pyromancies. Quelana, the *sole surviving* witch of Izalith, *once* accepted a *human* pupil but after the pupil moved on, *she never took another.*" 4.) In Dark Souls 2 we get to see that the art of Sorcery being manipulated by the Dark Soul, which is an art thought to be created by Seath the Scaleless. We know for certain that the relationship between Dragons and Humans exists, but why would it scale with Faith and Intelligence as well, Seath isn't a God? It seems like a marriage between Sorcery and Miracles, which make the idea of Chaos and Humanity being linked kind of moot, seeing as how Miracle come from the Gods. "Hex adapted from an ancient sorcery. Brandish Dark like a sword. By its nature Dark is normally tranquil, but this hex releases a focused blade of Dark in an uncharacteristic flash of brilliance." 5.) Velka being the Furtive Pygmy does have some legitimacy, but her constant absence in circumstances that concern "The Dark Lord" or events linked to it seem to be, well, non-existent. In addition, there's plenty of Gods and Goddesses to go around, for example: Nehma: Goddess of Love Caitha: Goddess of Tears -Caitha's Chime -Blue Tearstone Ring -Red Tearstone Ring God of Disease: No other mentions. Kremmel: God of Struggle -Ring of Thorns Evlana: Goddess of the Hunt -Hunter's Blackbow -Hunter's Hat -Hunter's Hat (Unused Version) Hanleth: Goddess of Bliss - No other mentions. Nahr Alma: God of Blood -Scythe of Nahr Alma -Nahr Alma Hood -Nahr Alma Robes -Despatcher's Hood (Unused Item) -Despatcher's Robes (Unused Item) Zinder: God of Desire -Covetous Gold Serpent Ring -Covetous Silver Serpent Ring (mispronounced as "Zandroe") Quella: God of Dream -White Ring -Spirit Tree Shield -Grand Spirit Tree Shield Caffrey: Goddess of Fortune - No other mentions. What have all of these Gods been doing while Velka soaks up all the credit, what about Allfather Llyod, who seems just as furtive as Velka seems to often be? [continued...]
@InconsequentialGaming
@InconsequentialGaming 7 лет назад
6.) Caitha the Goddess of Tears also seems to be of some contradiction in the Souls Series. In fact, at times she seems to have more relevance then Velka as far as making her presence know and being useful to the player. She could just as easily be the Goddess of the Forlorn just as much as Velka. In fact, it can be said that Carim has a tie to both these Goddesses in some way or another, which would mean they need to be mentioned if you ever bring up one or the other, what do you think? a.) "Sacred chime blessed by Caitha, goddess of tears. Rare even amongst Carim clerics. Affected by intelligence, a rare thing for miracle catalysts, and also agreeable with miracles that lean towards the Dark. Its existence is concealed in the name of the Archbishop, as it is anathema. Skill: Gentle Prayer Recovers HP for a period of time, albeit extremely slowly. Works while equipped in either hand." b.) "A ring set with a large rare tearstone jewel. Temporarily boosts attack when HP is low. This stone is said to be a tear of mourning of the goddess Caitha, and of course, tears are always more beautiful near death." 7.) There's more evidence pointing toward the fact that the Witch of Izalith is indeed the Bed of Chaos opposed to any other theory, especially if we play the "atonement card". "The Flame of Chaos *engulfed Mother* and molded them into deformed creatures. Only I escaped, and now I am here. But my mother and sisters *have been in anguish since*. I beseech you. *Free Mother* and my sisters from the *Flame of Chaos* I cannot do it myself; I lack the strength, and the bravery…" According to Quelana, she knows exactly where her mother is and exactly what took place in Izalith. There'd have to be more then just a huge guess to prove otherwise IMHO. It would be strange for a Goddess to think she can't start dishing out punishment to others when she has so much unfinished business going on herself, don't you think? 8.) To me, Velka just seems like a Goddess of "Justice" and nothing more. Every time she is related to something in the lore it seems to be an action or set of events to strike balance. As you can see with many of the Gods mentioned above, not one seems to be a God of Justice. "Mask worn by pardoners serving Velka, the Goddess of Sin. The pardoners listen to the confessions of sinners, urging reflection and salvation. Their masks symbolize separation from worldly desires. (add)The pardoners' attire is uniformly black in color and said to be imbued with Velka's mystical power, which provides *resistance against all manner of magic.*" -Black Cleric Set "A mask/robe/manchettes/tights honoring an ancient goddess. Sin was said to be her domain, but the name of the goddess is long forgotten." "Little is known about what purpose the mask/robe/manchettes/tights served, only that it was worn by a person of great authority." -Judgment Set Vow of Silence: "Creates an aura that prohibits all spell casting, the caster and allied Phantoms included." See, this Goddess Velka 'here' seems pretty consistent IMO. She only becomes confusing and all-over-the place when she is placed into lore scenarios that don't seem to match her goals. All of her powers seem to be 'anti-effect'. We can be sure that the Witch of Izalith and her daughters were all well-versed in magic before the events of Chaos, we hear it time and again, but spells like "Vow of Silence" seem much, much older then her. 9.) Most important of all, the Witches of Izalith are NOT human, not even the Fair Lady. That is distinctively made clear in every game. Also, firekeepers don't have a requirement to be human. "Soul of a long-lost Fire Keeper. Each Fire Keeper is a *corporeal manifestation* of her bonfire, and a draw for the humanity which is offered to her. Her soul is gnawed by infinite humanity, and can boost the power of the precious Estus Flask. Reinforced Estus Flasks capture denser Estus, allowing for increased restoration of HP." The only thing we can be sure of is that Fire Keepers are female, but that may not be a definite rule either, just a likely and reoccurring one.

Not disagreeing with your theory (Wich is amazing), but, as far as I know, the chaos flame is the result of an atempt to recreate the First flame, meaning it was fading. You mention that it faded when the Dark Soul was found in the Chaos Flame. So, if the first flame was fading, and the chaos flame was created because of that, and the dark souls came with it, how would the dark soul be responsible for the fading of the first flame if it appeared after it started fading? I'm very confused (I know that dark souls lore is all about making you confused but ok lol)
@TheAshenHollow
@TheAshenHollow 7 лет назад
Sorry if I confused you friend, hehe! I don't think the Dark Soul had anything to do with why the First Flame began to fade, it began to fade because it's just the natural progression of time. I believe the Witch of Izalith attempted to recreate the First Flame with her Lord Soul, as the flame was fading, so that they would have a back up source. Though as we know this plan did not work out, and she lost control of it and it birthed the Bed of Chaos and thus the Flame of Chaos. Which, the Chaos Flame, is where I believe the Dark Soul was found. I hope that helps clarify! =)
@kidren50
@kidren50 7 лет назад
But, if I understood it right, you say in the video that soon after the Dark souls was found, the flame faded/began to fade. So, I had the understanding that it caused the fading, but you're telling me that's not the case, so it just made the fading happen faster? Or am I completely wrong?
@TheAshenHollow
@TheAshenHollow 7 лет назад
No, I don't think the Dark Soul had any implications on the fading of the flame at all!
@kidren50
@kidren50 7 лет назад
Oh, I see. I'm very confused now with my theories. I always thought that the fading was a natural thing, but at the same time it was linked to the spread of humanity. My theory was that Gwyn, and the other lords, seeing the flame was fading,and humanity was spreading , they tried things to stop that. First, the Witch tried to replicate the first flame, and it went wrong. After that, Gwyn saw the only way to extend the age of fire was linking (to something) the flame. I assumed that he ended up linking it to humans because it was totally related to the Age to come after the Age of fire. But now with the possibility of the Dark Soul being a fruit of the Chaos Flame, everthing is crazy in my mind again. Anyway, Thanks for the answers. You're doing an amazing Job with your lore videos!
@TheAshenHollow
@TheAshenHollow 7 лет назад
Well I mean, that could make sense too! These are just my theories on the events of the game. At the end of the day everyone is able to believe what they want and have their own Dark Souls story to fill in the gaps, that's one of the big points of the story. For us to be creative! =D

I have more proof for you, relating to your Manus/Izalith pairing argument. Manus was summoned at the urging of a Primordial Serpent (Probably Kaathe). One of Manus' goals was to take over as much land as possible, and secondly to return his Broken Pendant. The Broken Pendant description is as follows: "Half of a broken stone pendant. The vine appears to originate from Oolacile. A powerful magic can be sensed from this ancient stone. Yet men of this time can neither manipulate nor sense its power, which has a distinct air consisting of both reverence and nostalgia." The key lines here are "Half of a Stone Pendant." and "Consisting of both Reverence and Nostalgia." Looking at the icon of the Pendant, which I suggest you look up, it is covered in Chaos and Dark energy, both weaving between each other. This would promote the Chaos/Dark theory just based on the image alone. Getting into the item dialogue, where did the other half of the Pendant go? Clearly it is broken, but the pendant appeared to have two main sections to it, each connected to the vine. A gift from the Witch of Izalith perhaps? Reverence and Nostalgia both would fit this assumption incredibly well. She stood up to him and left, making him admire her. Nostalgia because of the fact that she left, and sought her own emancipation from his lust for power. On top of this, all of the fragments of Manus materialized as women, unlike the man that he was. Nashandra, Elana, Nadalia, Alsanna. Since your argument was that she slowly kept feeding him parts of the darksoul, each of those segments of him can represent each time she fed him a fragment. Their femininity is just a representation of the fact that he was given them by the Witch of Izalith. Alsanna, a fragment of Manus, stayed loyal and true to the Ivory king. I would assume she is a representation of the part of Manus that deeply cared for the Witch of Izalith. She also wants to put Loyce Souls to rest, that were siezed by the Chaos, and despises it. She has reverence for the Ivory king. Nadalia searched for her king, and could not find him, so she split herself into multiple fragments. Showing that this is the part of Manus that missed the Witch of Izalith, and wanted her to return. Nashandra is the side of Manus that simply wanted more power, and more of the dark soul. And finally, Elana, is the part of Manus that wanted vengeance upon the with of Izalith. Its important to note that both Nadalia and Alsanna, the more heavenly virtued fragments of Manus, both have a very womanly attractive appearance. Both Nashandra and Elana, the evil parts of Manus, have a demonic form. On this note, all four of the kings have a relation with either Chaos, or Darkness that also lines up with the heavenly virtue/sinful shards of Manus. The Ivory King fought the Chaos. The Old Iron King not only sunk into lava, but had his Iron Throne within a kiln. Vendrick refused to light the flame, and succumbed to Darkness, with a harsh desire to protect Nashandra (As stated on his shield description.) The Sunken King is more unknown, but you can infer a lot and support the argument of darkness. His goal was to protect the dragon within the city. We have no conformation that Elana convinced him to do this, but there is a lot of compelling evidence. To keep him asleep, Sanctum priestesses sung to him. These priestesses followed Elana, not the Sunken King. They also cast exclusively dark magic. Through this I would assume he represents dark, and that Elana and her priestesses convinced him to guard Sinh. And to help sum up my thoughts, here is a quote from Nashandra's bow of Want. "Light and Dark are two sides of the same coin, much like the soul and the curse. The beings who presented themselves to those in search of kinghood were drawn to their awesome strength."

I'm playing through DS1 again, and found some more just now to tack on. The information i'm finding contradicts your theory- actually. But I have an alternative that doesn't completely destroy it. The first part goes to Kaathe. "But your progenitor found a fourth, unique soul." Progenitor generally meaning you two are of the same species. Not a god, like The Witch of Izalith became when she took the Lord Soul. This would mean the individual is still very much an undead like your character. Perhaps after the bed of Chaos incident she became an undead once again? Then theres the line "Your ancestor claimed the Dark Soul and waited for Fire to subside. And soon, the flames did fade, and only Dark remained." If this were true for the Witch of Izalith, why would she create the Bed of Chaos in attempt to recreate the first flame? Her goal would be to wait for fire to subside and use the dark soul. My only retort to this is that she became the Furtive Pygmy/Velka after creating the bed of Chaos. She took on the name Velka so none would know who she was. The First Sin was attempting to recreate the first flame. The sin Aldia studied so dearly. When she found the Dark Soul and became Velka, she had a new answer to fix the world that wasnt rekindling the flame. This retort makes the most sense because its called the "Bed of Chaos." She was known as the Witch of Izalith, and her daughters, the Daughters of Chaos. Shes never put side-by-side with the word Chaos anywhere in her own story. If we look at the original Japanese, i'm almost certain that the word "Bed" would be translated to something closer to "Grave." The grave of her daughters of Chaos. Then theres this interesting tidbit. "she attempted to recreate the First Flame using a soul." She created the bed of Chaos by using a soul? Which soul? The Dark soul, or her Lord soul? It seems irrational to me that its just some random soul she found. It certainly has to be one or the other. I would assume she used the Lord Soul. She split it up amongst her and her Daughters of Chaos, and did the ritual. When it failed, it engulfed her daughters, and left her mortally wounded without power, much like we see the Furtive Pygmy in the cinematic. Completely charred and surrounded by ash and Chaos. The Lord Soul makes the most sense to me, because the Bed of Chaos claimed it as its core. Unless the Dark Soul rejected attempting to become a flame, as darkness would, and created a void that instead sucked the Lord Soul and the daughters in. Ontop of my base reasoning that she used the Lord Soul, if she had the Dark soul and then "waited for fire to subside" as Kaathe put it, then she would almost certainly HAVE to obtain the Dark Soul after her failed attempt. Otherwise she wouldnt have simply waited for fire to subside. However, this entire argument destroys your "The Furtive Pygmy's soul in the cinematic isn't black" theory. You could make the argument that part of her lord soul hadnt been consumed after the Bed of Chaos incident, but that seems so unlikely given the fact that the bed of Chaos has what is presumably a full Lord Soul when you kill it. The next line is a bit hard to wiggle around. "Seek Gravelord Nito, the Witch of Izalith, and the traitor Seath the Scaleless." This is said by Kaathe, and also I believe Frampt once you place the Lord Vessel. The Bed of Chaos is obviously what hes speaking of when he says the Witch of Izalith. The only possible alternative here, is they are completely unaware she survived. Which would make complete sense as the Furtive Pygmy, because she took on the name of Velka. Shrouding her identity from the Gods and the Primordial Serpents. Now theres another bit to this theory that also helps yours out a bit more. "Lord Gwyn trembled at the Dark. Clinging to his Age of Fire, and in dire fear of humans, and the Dark Lord who would one day be born amongst them," This means a lot in terms of the Witch of Izalith. Gwyn became a God. A symbolic resonance of the age of fire. And he found the most powerful Fire/God Soul that existed. Yet the Witch of Izalith couldn't become the Dark Lord, after finding the Dark Soul? This very much holds true to your Lilith theory. She started as one of the Gods. Produced from Fire, and symbolic of life. But when she was forced to be subservient, she rejected and turned to the dark. She couldn't become the Dark Lord, she had already become a God. But using this argument in tandem with the prior argument, that she became an undead again after the Bed of Chaos incident, simply isn't logical. Perhaps she had no desire to be the dark lord? She fed too much to Manus, who used to be an undead himself? "Ancient Manus was clearly once human. But he became the Father of the Abyss after his humanity went wild, eternally seeking his precious broken pendant." From this entire argument, I think i'm leaning more toward Manus being the Furtive Pygmy than anything. Your argument in another video is that the Furtive Pygmy is a lot like Jesus. I'd like to add the perspective instead, that the Furtive Pygmy is Adam. The metaphorical semblance is uncanny. Your argument is also that The Witch of Izalith/Velka is a metaphorical representation of Adam's first wife Lilith. Meaning that the Manus/Adam and Izalith/Lilith pairing makes perfect sense, and the events that transpire from these two characters is almost IDENTICAL to the scriptures. The word Manus by definition means hand. Hands are metaphorical representations of action, leadership, or domination. This very much moreso fits Adam than Jesus symbolically speaking. I think you mention this in the video but this is a direct definition: "The power over other people, especially that of a man over his wife." Meaning I believe what you said in this video is more accurate than your Jesus theory one. The Witch of Izalith and Manus meet before the souls are found. They find the souls, and fight the dragons together. They build their beautiful society in an age of fire. Manus wanted The Witch of Izalith to stand down, and be subservient to him, and let the age of dark take over her age of fire. She refuses, and attempts to prolong the age of fire, and creates the bed of chaos. The source of all demons. Much like Lilith did when she left Adam and the Garden of Eden. Manus lived on, keeping his pendant to himself, and eventually found a new mate. This is mostly speculation, and just following the bible at this point, but it would be the Eve of Dark Souls. Something that had formed from part of himself? An earlier fragment of the Dark Soul we aren't told of? If you wish to go with the Adam/Manus, Izalith,Lilith theory, there is one unfortunate point to it. The likelyhood of Velka being the Witch of Izalith at this point is incredibly unlikely. Lilith herself birthed the demons. Meaning she would HAVE to be the bed of Chaos, and have only existed upon the world as the Witch of Izalith. Velka is already a well established character within the world by the time you kill the bed of Chaos. However, I still think through some rationale that Velka/The Witch of Izalith/Lilith are all one in the same. The furtive Pygmy seems more like Manus on almost every level symbolically to me. You're religious and i'm not, however. So perhaps you have more insight? I want you to convince me of it and try to poke holes in this argument honestly. I'm ignorant of a lot of it. I found an interesting biblical quote about Abel and Cain while researching these points however. I thought you'd find it interesting as a man of faith who loves comparing things to Dark Souls. "[Prophet], tell them the truth about the story of Adam's two sons: each of them offered a sacrifice, and it was accepted from one and not the other. One said, 'I will kill you,' but the other said, 'God only accepts the sacrifice of those who are mindful of Him. If you raise your hand to kill me, I will not raise mine to kill you. I fear God, the Lord of all worlds, and I would rather you were burdened with my sins as well as yours and became an inhabitant of the Fire: such is the evildoers' reward.' But his soul prompted him to kill his brother: he killed him and became one of the losers. God sent a raven to scratch up the ground and show him how to cover his brother's corpse and he said, 'Woe is me! Could I not have been like this raven and covered up my brother's body?' He became remorseful."

One more thing I forgot. You mentioned a video made by Hawkshaw about Quelana being manipulative, so I went and watched that. In the video he has a theory that Jeremiah is in fact the father of the Daughters of chaos. The proof being game code, chaos pyromancies, the whip, painted world, ect. I find it incredibly likely that after Manus and Velka separated, that she found a suitable replacement in Jeremiah. Much like Lilith coupled with the Archangel Samael before being castrated by God. This "castration event" would be why he ran away and split from Izalith and moved to the painted world later. Leaving her once again without a consort.

Casey Zei If i am not mistaken the Furtive Pygmy and the Dark Lord are two different persons. The Pygmy obtained the Dark Soul, and the Dark Lord rules in the Age of Dark, i mean, you can literally become the Dark Lord at the end.

This theory kind of falls apart when you consider the factual lore of the series. As the witch of izalith had a unique lord soul, 1 of 4, does this mean she had 2 lord souls? And lets not forget that the witch of izalith tried to recreate the first flame, in order to offset the coming age of the dark soul so does that mean she wanted to offset the age of her own soul?

The DS3 DLCs seem to confirm this as well! First there's the hidden statue in the Ringed City that functions almost exactly like Velka's and the one thing the Ringed City is known for is being a home and a prison to the pigmies. And on top of that having the blood of the Dark Soul be the pigment for the new Painted World kind of gives the entire thing a nice sense of closure.

Fucking mind-blowing, dude. I love how you can put little, very obscure pieces together in these games' lore, connect the dots in a new way, and suddenly, the whole perspective changes again. In my Dark Souls lore-hunting experience (basically, since I went balls-deep into the game), this has happened four times. And each time has been a right mind-fuck that has left me speechless. I don't think any other form of storytelling (in ANY media) has had the same effect on me. So yeah, thanks for bringing this to light, whether you're wrong or right (if such a thing even exists here).

Hey I love your videos, I can tell a lot of hard work has went into these haha! Do you think Gwyn tried linking the fire to the Bed of Chaos (Chaos Flame) as an attempt to save his age of fire? But little did he know that the dark soul was part of it (since the Witch of Izalith fucked up), and accidentally linked it to humans? This whole fiasco definitely seems First Sin worthy.

Good video, I def agree, I just switched from a dark gem to infusing my drakeblood sword to chaos just to try something new, but I still wanted to same level of stats and power I had with the dark gem. It switched over and gave the same exact stats and build as I had with the dark gem but of course the chaos uses fire. They are identical on the build even with the rings like dark clutch and fire clutch. Same stats. Just with fire instead of dark. I think that just further clarifies it. You got on another level into the lore tho! That was deep! And made complete sense too. Thanks.

43:40 I don't think the description is talking about Chaos when it says "man shares this rapport with the flames to this day". I think it meant that man shares with the Fire (the one that's fading and has to be rekindled in the Kiln in DS1&3) the same rapport that Demons had with the Chaos flame.

Ever since I got into dark souls, 1&3, I've been in love with magic and making crazy op magic characters. Sorcery, pyro, dark sorcery. Long before I ever saw this video, I have wondered why Chaos and Dark magic seem so...intertwined. Just with the sheer gameplay mechanics. How the damage works. In DS3, the earliest Dark damage you have access to, aside from the gems that infuse Dark damage and weapons like the Deep Axe and the Deacons' Soul, is available from Karla. Who teaches pyromancy and sorcery. Very curious how some of the first Dark damage you have access to is dealt through pyromancy. I'm pretty sure Karla (or whoever it is you free from the Irithyl prison) also teaches Chaos pyros. Chaos and Dark damage have always felt very interconnected.
