Dark Souls Remastered (PC, PS4, Xbox One) is a faithful return to a now classic game. How does the new coat of paint hold up? Let's talk. DISCORD: discordapp.com... Subscribe for more: / gameranxtv
I just bought Dark Souls Remastered, and as a newbie, the extremely heavy Companion Guide to go with it. I put it on my bookshelf, but it wasn't seated properly, so it fell off and missed my head by millimeters on the way to the floor. I know it says 'Prepare to Die' on the blurb, but I didn't think Dark Souls was so hardcore it actually tried to kill you in real life.
@@sincerecritic1881 I love dark souls and I want to get it for my gf on pc so we can play. Should I get her remaster. I see a lot of jokes but idk if legit I should get. I have prepare to die would I be able to play her in remaster or should I get us both remaster?
@@rarekirby8273 get her remastered. Prepare to die is a big mess and it requires DSfix to even uncap the 30fps limit. You won't be able to play with her on prepare to die edition so get yourself Both remastered version of the game.
RareKirby why didn’t you ask the original poster or post as a general comment on the video. It’s really weird you’ve asked the person who’s commented a month after the fact and with no channel. One of the strangest things I’ve seen.
I Think I Shit Myself Dark Souls remastered isn't bad when you say what bad about Dark Souls remastered then you make The orginal down to because its the Ds1 with better fps and better then Dsfix
19thHour cashgrab souls. This is a really bad remaster. Same with AC rogue! What a joke! If you have xbox. I advise you just do BC for it. And if you have pc use dsfix. And ps4 if you play it the first time. Then i suppose buy it
Even though this is meant in a sarcastic way... this is really a bad remaster when it comes to PC. Mostly a graphical update and some slight conveniences. 60 fps? We had that before without paying 40 bucks for an update. They released the game with a 30 fps cap which modders fixed in less than 24 hours after release and the problems that were back then like chain backstabbing...are still there. Instead of giving small conveniences like an extra bonfire and that u can now change covenants at them, they should've addressed serious issues that the game had back that they never fixed in the original one. Zero updates on the original one and I wouldn't be suprised if it was the same with this one. Hell they don't even give previous owners of the original one the remastered for free. I mean for example... one of the dev studios that loves to suck their fans dry of money. Bethesda... even gave the remastered version for free to players who owned the original Skyrim. It's a cashgrab and nothing else than a slight graphic update and some minor changes disguised as a remastered which addresed issues that should've been fixed in the original one with a few updates.
Bethesda gave Remastered skyrim to users who owned either all DLC or the GOTY edition of the original Skyrim cause i have just the base game and nope no free remastered for you
I finally got around to playing and finishing this for the first time and let me tell you, this is an experience. I've played many different games over the years and am kinda jaded, but I've been unable to put this one down since I started. It's challenging but if you stick to it, it'll give you a sense of accomplishment like no other. Anyone thinking of playing Dark Souls I recommend going in blind and figure things out by yourself. It's so rewarding when you finally conquer it.
Jacob Guntrum sorry man but I wouldn’t expect it. The rights are everywhere on the game. I believe Atlus produced it and now they’re own by Sega and yeah well it’s Sega.
+Renge Supreme Not true. Atlus only published Demon's Souls outside of Japan. The rights to the IP and game is with Sony Japan Studios (aka Sony Computer Entertainment) and From Software the two teams that developed the game, that also developed Bloodborne. If anything it's a mixed call from Sony and From Software to get a Remaster or Remake in the works.
I honestly just want a sequel to it. Dark Souls is done (for now) and Bloodborne 2 seems too obvious. A Demon's Souls sequel would be a surprise everyone could appreciate.
@@mendicantbias2291 DS3 actually made me summon for the first time in the series. One of the later boss fights is pretty challenging (and a little bit annoying). Let the abyss dudes fight each other.
@@BDaMonkey Yeah, first part is easy but the second half of the fight got me too much, and have like 3 embers left, decided i'd take a break lol last i played that game was a month ago, I just need some proper help and I think I can do it
R U kidding me?..lol..i thought ds was hard then i figure out i was first went into catacombs..the rest is just walk in the park..while rainin'..and chasing the red op bros..hahaha..i'll be back!
I started my first playthrough of this game about a month ago, playing when I have the time. I've made it to Anor Londo (no area of any other video game has ever inspired me to change my desktop background faster) and I'm enjoying the challenge of learning how to tackle Ornstein and Smough. This is my first game in the Soulsborne series, but I can't wait to play the rest of them.
This is my first real Dark Souls experience. I tried Bloodborne a little, and decided it wasn't for me. I'm not very far in yet but this game is challenging for me. If I can keep from raging and quitting, maybe I can eventually love this game. I've been playing on PS4 Pro and I think it looks pretty good so far and I haven't experienced any glitches yet.
I love Dark Souls because you can block attacks with your shield, especially if you're able to use Havel's Greatshield by getting Strength up to 50. In Bloodborne you don't have a shield, so the only way to avoid damage is to either become a god at dodging, or replenish your health by hitting enemies before it disappears for good.
@@pastormosesmaloney1604 Seems longer than 6 years honestly. Dark Souls is actually pretty easy comparatively at this point. I think DS3 DLC's were the hardest for me in terms of boss fights. I never did beat Sister Friede on my own. I summoned the whole world to take her down. I beat all the Sekiro bosses on my own. I guess that's not really DS but it's FromSoft so yeah, the answer is, I really think FromSoft makes the best games. I'm a fan.
Just finished this game for the first time, and man i love it. I got my experience a bit ruined, as i went to the tomb of giants before even fighting Taurus Demon, so i 3 shoted him (was level 60 with the gravelord sword). But some bosses were still really hard and i enjoyed them a lot Onto dark souls 2 :D
My first too and DAMN is it HARD. I can't even describe the level of difficulty. I never played Souls before but this is something in comparison to the other games I played before.
I've been playing since the first Dark Souls, loved it so much I went played Demon Souls, and now I've played every game in the series. For those of you new to the series, I highly recommend you buy this game. Dark Souls 3 makes so many nods to the 1st game that you likely wouldn't have understood/caught them unless you had another player tell you. It is before a time where you could stand from one bonefire, and see the next, so be prepared for more of a challenge. Mostly, get your diddly hole ready for Dragon Slayer Ornstein and Executioner Smough. I have still have nightmares about the first time I did that fight.
People say these games are hard. But really once you get use to how the game works and figure out your build and what not it really isn´t... Not saying this is a cakewalk of a game but it´s not gonna make you break controllers or what not. All you have to do is figure out what build you want and get use to dying. 9/10 times when you face a new boss you're gonna die. But if you accept that and make sure you can't lose a ton of souls it's just trail and error and not harder that most NES games!
souls don't mean anything, I lost a million or five once, who cares, unless you're the worst player on earth you'll always have enough souls to beat the game.
i never played the first one, but i looved the dancer from 3. mesmerizing movements, decently challenging and just a really great boss. although i did think it would have another life bc of how much damage i did to it, but i think thats cuz i was using a dark sword
I love dark souls 1 the most out of the souls series. It had the most fun pve experience out of the bunch. No terrible hitbox glitches, no enemies that are speeding around the map and feel like they are designed for a faster game, no big and empty areas. just good old dark souls.
I just finished this on the Switch. It’s the only one I’ve played but it kind of ruined me for combat in all other RPGs now. It really reminds me of Wonder Boy III:the Dragons Trap on Sega Master system with the hub world, inventory, enemies drop items and currency and the way the story unfolds through exploration
@@DunceCapSyndrome facts bro im with you there. I started out with DS1 back on PS3 years ago and never beat it. Got back into the series with Bloodborne and I walked away from it a few years back. I'm now back to playing it and am almost done. Level 90, currently halfway through the DLC then I just have Nightmare of Mensis left. I think Bloodborne is a masterpiece
@@DunceCapSyndrome Yes dude - I feel like FromSoftware is like the A24 of gaming studios at this point. They are not making watered-down AAA nonsense based on testing what will sell the most across demographics, and I truly think they are primarily doing this for the love of the craft. Art indeed my friend.
@@Jriniscool it’s really not that hard bro just 3 hours of patience in each game and a bit of research online and you’ll learn the play style to succeed in 1, 2, or 3, a couple of simple buttons and the ability to read you just have to want it.
When he said “I put the series down a couple times but when you’re hooked, you’re hooked” and I couldn’t relate soo much more when I first downloaded it at 13 and now I’m 25 and completed it for the first time
Just ordered this. I've had vanilla Dark Souls on Xbox 360 for years, but it wasn't until recently that I learned that the Remastered version has the DLC that I never got to play, so I ordered it. 60fps should also be a nice upgrade compared to what I'm used to. It also looks like the fire in Remastered actually looks like fire as opposed to the ugly streaks on neon orange in the 360 version.
I have spent 60 hours in just the past 5 days playing this game on the Switch. I always enjoyed the game before but never properly explored its many ingenious mechanics and deep gameplay. I have never in my life spent so much time in a video game in so few days. Thank you, Dark Souls.
I played Bloodborne for a month straight and got the platinum trophy, and through the blood, sweat, and tears, I can easily say that it’s one of my favorite games.
I'm considering just getting remastered, 2, and 3 this year. Thought if I'm going to play the game might as well start from the beginning and work my way up.
Feel sorry for first timers going against the two Anor Londo black knights. Good luck. 👍 The first DS is my favorite in the series and favorite boss is probably Artorias or Manus. Actually my favorite Souls game is a tie between Demon's and Dark Souls. I would LOVE for Demon's Souls to come to Ps4. Picked up the Remastered version today. Can't wait to play.
darkfury45 not that I mean he manages to play, finish and do videos for mostly all other games too, in a short amount of time (every other “Before you buy” series)
I played the original Dark Souls on PS3. The key to keeping blight Town from lagging is to kill every enemy. Don't sneak past them, kill them. If you kill all the enemies it doesn't lag bad. If you sneak past them, you get so many enemies at the same time the processor gets bogged down.
I never played dark souls or bloodborne but I think now is the time to do it. Loved games like witcher or skyrim but all the time I was sceptical about ds but hopefully I won't be disappointed.
My favourite boss was smough and ornstein, I didnt find it impossible to beat it and LOVED their mechanic together! Died 5 times and I just beat Dark Souls with no online help/humanity, no hints, completely blind like the game just released two weeks ago, and I loved it! But it's good to rest now until I start Dark Souls 2 xDDD
Uhhhhhh I bought remastered, ds 2 with the main dlc, and ds 3 for 110$ after I played remastered for 30 minutes I was hooked. It’s such an amazing game that I never knew about
I just Started playing recently and I love this game I love because it’s challenging and it’s different from all the other RPGs I may have gotten so pissed of at this game a few times but once I got the hang of it and i don’t rage as I often as I did
As someone who put over 3000 hours into this game back in the day, but have also had my PS3 break and had not been able to replay the game for some time, I've been torn: on one hand I'm pretty sure I have played and replayed every bit of content this game has to offer so many times over that I'm not sure how much more enjoyment I'd get doing it all over yet again; but on the other hand I finally have the capacity to play this again.
Dark souls 2 (underrated) first souls game I had the courage to fully finish and inspired me to go back and complete all souls/Bourne games so it has a special place in my heart, just finished sekiro and boy I think it may top all the games so far but maybe I'm being biased since I just finished it lol
Hands down my favorite game of all time. It set the bar sooooo high for third person combat and character control that every single game I’ve played since, EVERY SINGLE ONE, has been compared to souls and found lacking in one way or another. Games are suppose to be fun. This game was pure torture and I love it all the more because of that.
I would say this game, the original dark souls, is my favourite out of them all. Even though I came in late to the inital game I have had so much fun with it even at the points that I really struggled. This game is definitely a masterpiece I'm telling you. Also my favourite boss fight would probably be the one with Artorias. He is really freaking cool
Warning about matchmaking: You now scale off weapon upgrades. Also, if you pick up a special weapon like the black knight greatsword then you will be put up weapon levels and end up facing people you are not prepared for when you invade or get invaded. So don't be surprised if you get one shot. This was a bit of deal breaker for me because it split the community.
A part of me really wants to pick up this game. But another part of me knows I have a half-dozen other souls-like games I haven't finished because of the difficulty.
I have had the prepare to die version on my PC for years and I've started 4-5 different characters but never really made it too far. My PC fried and I was bored and ended up picking up the remastered version for my PS4 Pro and I finally just bit the mouthpiece and played it and I'm really enjoying it. I haven't beat it yet but I think I'm near the end (I have 3/4 of the lord souls to put into the vessel right now). I'm not a total noob when it comes to these games I have played through Bloodborne probably 4 times and it's one of my favorite games but I never got too into Dark Souls until very recently.
Gladiator Of Rome36 it was the pc players that complained. The game was broken on pc, however ds fix made the game just like the remaster so they are not getting anything new unlike console players who can now play it on the new gen.
To everybody flipping out in the comments because of what or what not the remaster did, nobody gives a damn. You are not going to change anything about it, the console players who want to play it will. (I am one) so rather than trying to make the community seem even more toxic, just keep your opinion to yourself and don't criticize others. P.S sorry for the rant
I have equal love and hatred for Artorias. He kicked my arse from here to Lordran so many times, but I don't think I've ever been so chuffed to beat a boss in a video game - think I was actually shaking 😅
Its amazing! I went from Bloodborne, DS3, DS2 (Hated DS2) and so far this is my favorite. The 60 fps is so awesome, I think it plays better than Dark Souls 3
Just a quick question, is the remastered version easier to run on pc? Like ok it has higher resolution and shit but it's in theory better optimised? Let me know pls
I came into the Souls series with Dark Souls 3, went back and played 2, and always wanted to try the first. I never could due to lack of a PS3, but now I’m super excited to get hooked all over again.
Cl04d Probably not, but you're not missing much. Demons' Souls was basically the rough draft for the original Dark Souls. You had some interesting mechanics like world tendency and magic was OP, but it's a lesser game.
I'm just going to be basing my opinion on the three Dark Souls games (because I haven't finished Demon's Souls and have yet to touch Bloodborne) Dark Souls 1 was the best for world design (by this I mean the lore, art design, and level design). The other games are far more linear in design and the areas/lore feel less inspired than those found in the first. Dark Souls 2 was the best for what you were capable of doing as the player. The combat was certainly the most diverse with it having more weapon types than the other two and them not holding back in designing spells. You can also spell buff just about any weapon in the game while also having an infusion on it. The power stance mechanic also added to this variety and was far better than the weapon art system featured in Dark Souls 3. Dark Souls 3 was, for obvious reasons, the best for graphical quality and generally had the most quality of life features. These including: the ability to offer more than one item at a time to a covenant, charging heavy attacks, auto-repair at bonfires, the ability to swap covenants at nearly any given time, consuming multiple items at once, a quick use item bar that appears under the menu bar, password matchmaking, stick jumping, and making the upgrade system as simple as possible (now of course these weren't all introduced in Dark Souls 3, some first appeared in Dark Souls 2, but they appear along with the features thay did unlike Dark Souls 2). So Dark Souls 1 has the best world, Dark Souls 2 had the best combat, and Dark Souls 3 had the best quality of life features and graphics. Dark Souls 1 is probably my favorite though, but they're all pretty close for me anyway, so I could almost go whatever way.
Dynamic emboridery sewing soup That's the beauty of it, the world actually feels like an actual place, a labyrinth to traverse and explore with many secrets and shortcuts to discover that make sense instead of "go from point A to point B" with no actual exploration going on, just going through a clear cut path with the only thing being in your way just being the obviously present enemies. In Dark Souls 1 your first playthpugh will have you guessing if you're taking the right path and where an enemy might appear next. Dark Souls 3 for the most part doesn't have that and it doesn't feel great seeing all the obstacles a level has in store for you before they've had the chance of properly presenting themselves.
Pretty sure you get auto-repairs on DS2 too. DS1 is the only game where you actually have to go to the blacksmith to get your durability restored, hence why you get large durability on weapons in that game. DS2 and DS3's repair system are the same. EDIT: Oh, and stick jumping. It's been there since DS2.
The enemies are relatively easy. I went into the game expecting a super hard challenging experience... i did get that, but not in the combat. Having to google where the hell you are supposed to go multiple times is simply just bad level design. Nothing less, nothing more.
No, i would prefer a multitude of curvy lines, multiple ways to complete things like games such as dishonored or wolfenstein the new order... which actually have good level design.
This game is so epic for someone who never played (or finished) the original Dark Souls game on console. I *LOVE* Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3, mainly because they're the first 2 Soulsborne games I ever played. And even after reading so many comments that DS1 was better than DS2 and DS3, I didn't feel like reconnecting my PS3 to play an outdated Souls games with last gen graphics. But now that it was remastered, IMHO the graphics are good! They aren't DS3 quality, but they're very much acceptable and some areas do look like PS4 quality! But it's all about the gameplay and the level design! All those people that say DS1 was better than DS2 and DS3 are not BSing! It's not just a nostalgia trip! The whole concept of exploring upwards and downwards compared to DS3 and Bloodborne's level design is awesome. I also kinda like how none of the bosses have phases or different forms. To me, DS1 bosses feel easier and more relaxing than BB and DS3. Cause when bosses have a 2nd phase/form, you gotta master all of it! You could be struggling to get a boss to 50% and when you finally master it, the game slaps you in the face with a 2nd phase where the boss is now faster, has more ranged and deals more damage. Then it can become a total nightmare to kill because you gotta keep playing perfectly for Phase 1 so you can reach Phase 2 and start practicing to master it! But Dark Souls 1? You just gotta master how to dodge, block and attack a boss within the first few minutes and then repeat that same strategy until it reaches 0% health. I LOVE IT!!! Dark Souls Prepare to Die? More like... Dark Souls Prepare to Chillout if you already mastered Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3.
The OG Dark Souls will always hold that special place. Games like Elden Ring are MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger with way more variety, tons of QOL improvements, smoother mechanics, etc etc, but there's just something genuinely special about the OG, it's the only one I keep wanting to replay over and over. The other games I'll run through once and maybe do a NG+ or two, but with DS1 I always like starting totally fresh and seeing how fast I can clear it. I bought the remaster for the 60 FPS alone, the other perks are just gravy!
I disagree, most people who hate on DS2 hate on it because they either never played it or because it was a meme for a few years to hate on it after SOTFS dropped and split the player base. Honestly DS2 was objectively the best of the series based on what made DS a good/unique franchise. By which I mean weighted mechanics, bosses, level layout, atmosphere, lore, builds, fashion souls, and difficulty.
i've not played SOTFS silly how they made it a timed download but i enjoyed the builds i made a lot more in ds2 than in 1 and 3 and the variety in the weapons and spell they had a lot of identity. number 2 was the one that got me into the lore of the soul series too (my friend says that's why i hold number 2 in high regards) DS1 was my least preffered of the 3 i mean it's awesome but for some reason i just liked number 2 more than it.
LogicalPoint heh I disagree with you, especially about your "objectivity", I thought Ds2 was a solid meh in pretty much everything other than build variety, PvP and combat mechanics.
Vordt? After the fountain with the giant fat winged knight go left, in the corner there should be a summon sign for Albert The Lionheart, he's one of the tankier summons and can distract vordt while you deal quick damage (assuming you didnt beat him already)
I was about to quit the game out of frustration. Decided to give it one more try today and I completed the second boss =) What I did wrong was putting all my points in strength instead of vigor. So I farmed some souls, got more vigor and upped my HP flask to 5 points. Thx for the tips, guys! It really helped rolling under him instead of trying to get away.
I'd say dark souls 3 was my favorite because of the fluid and exciting combat that gives you a nice rush, and the depressing atmosphere and 2 part boss fights that are fun as fuck.
The remaster is a bittersweet game. For those who never played the original or had it on a older console that they've now replaced it's a good deal and I highly recommend picking it up. If you still have the original on console or have it on PC then this remaster is a $40/$20 slap in the face. Even Skyrim gave it's remaster free to those who had the game and all dlc on PC, and Skyrim's remaster changed more.
really so a game company should be obligated to give a bunch of over entitled sweaty PC pricks a free handout because they bought a previous copy of the game years before? What - $20 too much for you? Cutting into your cheeto funds?
I never played DS1 because i started with DS3 a couple of month ago but i really liked it. I played it like 6 times in a row, 4 normal runs without dlc and 2 ng runs with ashes of Ariandel dlc. Now i played a little bit of ds1 remastered during the network test but i felt like it didn't age well even tho friends tell me its the best game in the series. So i wanna hear from you guys or gameranx themselves. Should i buy it and hope that i get used to it, similar to how i needed to get used to ds3? I really love ds3. The difficulty the enemy's, bosses, environment EVERYTHING
What makes DS1 stand out from the sequels is its level design, level design is totally different topic from level graphics which Jake might have gotten confused about. Sure, DS1 is slower, clunky animations and looks old. But the gameplay thats there really is superb!
I just finished DS3 before playing DSR. It took me a bit of a practise to get used to the rolling and still am, but im sure anybody can adapt to DSR, especially with some DS experience under there belt. And about the graphics, once youv played it for an hour or 2 youll get used to it and accept it for what it is. Then when you play your next brand new game, its going to look amazing! :)
Well, for the most part you'll have to adapt to slower combat and movement , level design is much better but you have to keep in mind you wont have fast traveling till late game, the game isn't as linear as ds3, weapon durability is somewhat more important, there are a lot of exploits in pvp (chain backstabbing, backstab canceling, etc.), and i could go on and on, my point is that its something familliar, but different, its defnietly worth getting if you never played it before, but it will definetly take you some time to get used to it (then again this applies to every souls game), in my opinion its worth going back to where it all started, but thats your choice to make
