I prefer Pinwheel + Leeroy and Moonlight Butterly + Beatrice for easy 25k souls, then buy bellowing dragoncrest ring, then kill hydra and getting crown of dusk right away. You have bellowing and RTSR to kill hydra via pew pew. If that does not do the job you can easily buy some extra spells. Especially if you did Pinwheel first and got the covetous silver serpent ring before killing moonlight and Taurus. Extra souls come in handy for buying magic. It's pretty expensive at the beginning. That's why you should not waste them for stuff like the scimitar. Or wasting levels by starting as something else than a sorcerer. For the mid-start, you can go for Laurentius + Power Within. As you open sen's fortress, well Logan is right there.
I don't understand why you wouldn't go for the Logan's Catalyst when you're going beyond 50 Intelligence . That has the best Magic Adjustment at 45 Intelligence and above that doesn't halve your casts .
