Well into the 5th decade since this gem was created and still ranks as one of my all time favorite movies....for both it's originality and offbeat quirkiness. Not long after I saw this movie for the first time, I made a trip back east, but altered my route so as to pass through Benson, AZ...just so I could check it out.
I grew up about 8 miles from Dark Star Road in Benson Arizona. It used to be a frontage road along I-10 on the west side of Benson right past the city limits. Sadly Dark Star is gone now because they moved that section of interstate a few hundred feet north to reduce a curve in the interstate that caused a lot of accidents.
A million stars shine down But I see only one I think I’m over you I find I’ve just begun The years move faster than the days There’s no warmth in the light How I miss those desert skies Your cool touch in the night Benson Arizona, blew warm wind through your hair My body flies the galaxy, my heart longs to be there Benson Arizona, the same stars in the sky But they seemed so much kinder when we watched them you and I Now the years pull us apart I’m young but now you’re old But your still in my heart And the memory won’t grow cold I dream of times and spaces I left far behind Where we spent our last few days Bensons on my mind Benson Arizona, blew warm wind through your hair My body flies the galaxy, my heart longs to be there Benson Arizona, the same stars in the sky But they seemed so much kinder when we watched them you and I
I remember stumbling upon this cineastic gem some twenty years back in the middle of the night...they ran it twice in a row that night and I watched it twice
I don't really want to have a service when I die, but it might be fun to ask my family to play this, without telling them where it came from, as a memorial to my passing.
A classic if ever there is one....from no budget, no stars, and a cast and crew from film school came....a film that looks amazingly better than a certain big-budget 60s TV show. Isn't it amazing that no science fiction film beyond a certain age foresaw any substitute for books or other availability of text material?
Anyone know why 'Benson Arizona' was the title? The music was written by John Carpenter, lyrics by Bill Taylor and the lead vocalist was a college friend of John Carpenter called John Yeager, or Jager. Were any of them from Benson?
educated guess, Benson´s on the I-10, so Carpenter just drove by there one day or maybe you´ll find the answer here and maybe someone will correct the faulty wikipedia link www.benzedrine.ch/darkstar.html hint: the answer is on the website
