This is like shitting on phase 1 MCU for not being 100% comic book accurate. Although, I do 100% agree with you on that whole “the monsters are the outsiders” segment. I laughed when I heard him say that, but I doubt it’ll mean that they’ll start praising Dracula. I think that one dude was just including some of his own BS beliefs into the video.

As a classic monsters fan for over half a century I was so looking forward to this new land where I could actually step into those old movies in person. Now my hopes are dashed. Universal you blew it in favor of modernism. Why cant you just give the fans what we want? Why do you have to reinvent. Its a no brainer.😏

I will re evaluate some comments i had on a previous video: i fall into the category of somebody who really enjoys theme parks, and i think epic universe as a whole is so immersive and is what disney used to be, i live in orlando and for me this is great bc its gonna push disney to do better and consumers win at the end of the day. As a theme park lover the immersion and rides look great, there is also a creature of the black lagoon ride planned as an expansion to this land which im also excited for. Overall i think they did a great job with an immersive theme park land and ill throw my money at it That being said i understand how fans of classic universal monsters are upset w how they didn’t do yall justice, if disney completely “reimagined” indiana jones or another franchise i love id be pretty upset w it, so my bad if i came at you sideways on another video, for theme park lovers this is a win and i fall into that category and couldn’t understand why a monsters fan would be disappointed. But now i get it, my bad og

And that's all totally fair. I think from a theme-park perspective I'd still be undersold on a roller coaster and a Kuka arm ride, but my disappointment really comes from it not being the classic monsters at all. It wouldn't even be so bad if they weren't sticking our noses in it by proclaiming how these are the classic monsters and not "reimagining" Mario, Harry Potter, and How to Train Your Dragon.

Perhaps they are creating these “new” monsters because the original monsters are in public domain and they can create merchandise around these new variants which will be trademarked VS where anyone can create mech around the classic monsters.

Which is funny because THESE are more like a generic, off-brand version of the monsters than the actual ones. One of the arguments that simps for Universal make is that the likenesses of Bela Lugosi, Boris Karloff, and Lon Chaney Jr. are owned by the estates and Universal would have to pay licensing fees for them (which they already do for Mario and Harry Potter). However, Universal ALSO has a style book with renditions of the monsters that still look like they do from the movies, just with a generic likeness (for example, the toys by Jada).

I have a bad suspicion about this. They have made a product for the new generation, and they will reboot the failed Dark Universe to attract this new audience as stories based upon this product, not the classic monsters.

Okay to me they need to figure out a tone, imo scooby doo vibes so it's family friendly spookyness that can be really scary to kids. I also think the scooby doo vibes helps the timelessness because yeah scooby doo updates with the times for things like cell phones but it's a world with both advanced robotics experts having to resort to cash crimes while there's still towns with no telephones scared of the lord living in a local castle in no named usa state. Now lets figure out attractions and i'd do ones that instantly come to mind first. Phantom of the opera, I know some don't count it because pre dracula and silent film but it's universal and Lon chaney should count imo. Phantom of the opera attraction literally writes itself, it's a moving theatre peformance where it starts in the opera hall and then the phantom sabotages and you are taken out of your seats by a guide trying to "protect you" and you go on this path to learn about the phantom and eventually stop him. Invisible man should be a escape room where guest are trapped in a room trying to escape and you use nice camoflague, secret carpartments and guessing where people will pay attention to for the illusion. From a hand pushing someone that is near the secret capartment, a item moving or being missing when people aren't looking, etc. The creature from the black lagoon should be similar to mermaid shows where you are able to look through a window into the underwater life (obviously this one will be the hardest but I couldn't think of anything that fit the creature better for a theme park attraction). Frankenstein is about getting supplies to build a monster because to me the attraction is the wild mad scientist lab that it made iconic and you can have a crew of scientist helping out the guest while the head scientist is able to ham it up as the head Doctor frankenstein. Wolfman attraction should be a secret scare house that is a forest that is walled off (like you have to go greatly to the edges of the maze to notice) and there are werewolfs trying to get you with your goal is to escape the forest maze. Finally onto dracula he's the host so there would be multiple actors portraying the same dracula (think mickey mouse being in multiple places) and is who is showing off this monster land to the guest. To me it's perfect for the guides of certain attractions such as the museum and some attractions that they don't have someone better to guide. Cause I imagine the frankenstein attraction will either be by a scientist, hunchback, or dr frankenstein himself, the wolfman attraction can be either a mystic trying to get you to not fall victim to the werewolfs or monster hunters. Monster hunters should basically be the security to help park guest if anything happens. Also for the section of being made up to look like a monster sooooo should be dr jekyll and mr hyde themed with you "having your inner monster unleashed". Honestly my one hang up is the mummy with their setting being so different from the others it would feel out of place so my one thought is to base it off of the mummy's ghost where the film takes place near a swamp and you are dealing with cultist that summoned mummies in order to lay the ground work for pharroh's return (they gotta make the main mummy look more unique because the designs from the movies are still too generic so i say embrace it with some generic mummies while there is one grand unique mummy).

The Phantom is my favorite monster but I would like a slow dark nattraction where you are transported from the opera down to the bowels and catacombs under the opera. a boatride like pirates.

'Inspired by.....' is the kiss of death. First best might be a direct adaptation. A film or property adapted as closely as possible, within practical & reasonable limitations. Think Peter Jackson's 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. A few tweaks, adding & subtracting for a better whole. Second tier is the phrase, 'based on.....' Most of the original elements are there, with more significant changes to suit the suits in the c-suites, and what THEY think the public wants. (Not usually true, but sometimes.) Then, far further down, is, 'inspired by.....' As you say, there's nearly nothing of the source material in the presentation. Yes, there's -a- 'werewolf,' but it's not OUR 'Wolf Man,' as portrayed by Lon Chaney Jr. Ye gads. Also, as you've noted, it's a Universal Studios theme park, not some Six Flags knock off. Why, by sweet merciful Buddha, can't they simply use the original cast, images, and stories??? Y'know, the stories UNIVERSAL OWNS??? Not like there's licensing issues, yeah?

Also- 'This is the thing you've been waiting for, for 100 years.' 'No it's not.' BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Good breakdown... And the answer that counter-critics like to give to your last question is that Universal would have to pay licensing to the estates of Karloff, Lugosi, and Chaney, and that's SO UNFAIR to the multi-million dollar corporation owned by Comcast! To anybody with a brain, using the actual stories and characters Universal owns would seem pretty obvious. They even have versions that look like the characters just without the direct likeness of the actors (e.g.: the Jada toys).
@CobbleBompster
@CobbleBompster Месяц назад
Because having slight redesigns that make the characters look cooler is the worst thing in the world… What they’re doing is being original in a good way.
@MonsterKidCory
@MonsterKidCory 26 дней назад
@@CobbleBompster did you even pay attention to ANYTHING I said? Those radical redesigns make them NOT THE MONSTERS. No, they're NOT the thing I've been waiting for. I'VE been waiting for the classic monsters. I don't want them to "be original"... They weren't "original" with Nintendo, they weren't "original" with Harry Potter, and I don't want them to get "original" with Universal Monsters.
