As the sun rose on Oriental, North Carolina we set out across the Neuse River and down the Adam's Creek Canal towards Beaufort, NC. The weather is getting progressively worse as we motorsail the Bogue Sound. Our path takes us into a bombing range near the USMC Camp Lejeune, where we do not ACTULLY encounter any live bombing activity but we do find ourselves battling a squall on a narrow channel.

Really? That is so odd! It is probably a cover story they use while conducting secret experiments over near Camp Lejeune...

Miss your adventures. You gave us many laughs. How about a real time update?

Thank you for that! We are rolling out these older videos so we can keep things in order, but I hear ya... we are SO behind that a real time update would probably be welcome. We'll make a brief update and publish it soon. In the meantime, I can tell you that 9 LIVES was destroyed by 2 storms... we have been traveling about somewhat on power boats for a bit... and just yesterday we returned from a roadtrip to Maine where we looked at some more sailboats. One day soon we will be sailing again!

Nice video 🎉 what program do you guys use for your map animations? Really like the style

Honestly, the maps are really a total hack job. Screen shots of Google Maps. I draw the red line on a copy of each map in Paint (yes, good ol’ Paint). I then layer them all into a composite shot in HitFilm. I zoom in on the images as needed and move them around in the canvas. I then put a negative mask over the image without the red lines and move it around to basically cut a window to the layer beneath, the image with the red lines. Once I move everything around over time and am satisfied that it looks like it is drawing the red path on the map, I put the boat image on it in a new layer, move it around so that it stays at the leading edge of the red line being revealed, and change its rotation and scaling so that it suggests animation. Like I said, a total hack job. I continue to do it this way so that the maps are reasonably consistent over the course of these episodes heading down the coast. But once I finish those up I will be looking for some software that does this all for me… and way better. If I don’t find what I like, I may write some software to create this map animation for me.
