@@ampthebassplayer I definitely hear that. However- I was explaining it to a friend and it hit me-it’s more to control the level of the drive sound so that you can have high gain and low gain sounds at the same volume. Agreed the pedal could do with a master volume
I like the AO best for creating gentle growl like an overdriven tube amp. I lean towards the alpha setting as faster playing isn't as articulate on the omega side. If I want fuzzier, I just use a fuzz. For heavy distortion, I prefer the Microtubes X as the filters allow it to get super dirty while retaining low end. With the AO set for gentle growl, the Microtubes X stacked in front of it sounds really good too once all the knobs are dialed in.
Thanks for all the Darkglass vids. Been away from the bass game for a decade, till recently, and the gear lust is real. Pretty much put all your DG vids on loop for weeks till settling on this pedal thanks to your analysis and explanation of features. Can't like your vids enough!
Yours is my favourite bass-centric channel by far: love the playing, the style, the tones, the inforamtive side, the editing. You should have thousands more subscribers. Keep it up!
The riffs you create to demo these products are just so addictive. They get stuck in my head and I have to go and setup to learn them. You have a unique set of skills that make bass so much more interesting.
I have to say it and this video is as good a place to say it as any: I love your awesome channel! Extremely informative, great sounds, pleasant voice and high quality videos :) I hope you continue exactly like this! Greetings from Germany
Just discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago. Top notch! All thumbs up. 👍👍 Audio quality is awesome! You really know how to mix it. Really like the reviews. Subtle to extreme. Yeah, DG can do metal but it can also do all of this other stuff too. Got me thinking differently about them. Time to get more diverse tho. I'd like to see your take on modulation and time effects too. New, classic, analog, digital… Can't wait! I remember seeing you doing you a review for someone sometime ago. Can't place it but remembered it said you played with Taylor Swift and I liked it. Good stuff. Keep going!!!
Plays with one of the biggest artists ever AND reviews tasty bass toys for us low end nerds. You the best! The Omicron is great but this makes want to get one of the big brother versions... Do you have any love/less love for the Ultra version versus this Omega?
The Ultra is a serious piece too-the EQ is great and is in good spots for bass, having separate controls for the clean and distorted sounds is very flexible…there really are advantages to both and some of it depends on how picky you are about your tone and how long you want to spend fussing with it. That said the AO ultra was the first DG pedal I pushed hard and got the “Darkglass Tone” with so it has a special place in my heart. They’re both great. I’d take either of the bigger siblings over the Omicron, but it’s great too
After watch this video. I'm returning my Billy Sheehan "The Ultimate" bass pedal. We haven't really gotten along, so to speak. The Darkglass really seem to be way more on it for what I need in a drive pedal. Thanks for the excellent coverage video of it.....
Good golly miss Molly Amos, you are simply awesome bro! I love your channel; the combination of humor, information, insights, and divinely gifted musical skills are the perfect mix! Any thoughts on offering lessons as a side hustle? I’d sign up with a thousand “yes Sensei’s!” I have the X Ultra paired with a Lakeland 5 string and it’s earth shaking. Next DG for me is the A-O. God bless y’all!
To me the biggest compromise in AO is the EQ section. Obviously there is little you can do with just 500Hz knob as far as mids are concerned. In this respect B7Kv2 is light years ahead. Then we get somehow compensated for EQ shortcomings with MOD knob. I really like the Alpha sound, but to be able to mix it with Omega (which on its own is too fuzzy for me) is priceless! So let's hope the next version of AO offers improved EQ that would get it close to being an ultimate OD pedal! For now B7K still reigns! ;-)
Hey Amos, I tried to find a contact link but couldn’t find one. Any chance you would ever do one of your killer informative reviews of the Hartke lx5500? I’ve had one for a couple months now and the whole frequency/shape functionality is driving me nuts. I have a P, a jazz, and a Stingray which is my main bass and I haven’t really been been able to dial in a tone that I’m happy with for the stingray and it’s really frustrating. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on it overall but any insight into getting the most out of the frequency/shape relationship for different basses would be a big help. Thanks man, great channel. I love your content.
Hi! Really awesome review! Brilliant! Especially the "Endless Narrative Intro" - bassline is the burner. Can´t get it out of my head anymore! Where´s that bassline from? Is it your own creation? Where can I get the full song of it, if there´s one?!? Subbed to your channel by the way, just because this video caught me!
