In my opinion, Darkthrone needs to sit back and write some songs for a few years and pick the best ones and refine them, their last 5 albums or so have been pumped out one after the other and they sound like it. Their last great record was Hate Them.
Love all the Darkthrone catalogue as well as I love all the CC and Deicide ones. I think people respect Darkthrone because even though they changed there sound MANY times, they still have that core that makes them feel like Darkthrone. The band members are very likable and know their shit too, they never left metal behind, they just explored it more. I think its stupid certain other bands like CC and Deicide get ripped on too. People are way too anal and upset over made up hocus pocus. Love the new Darkthrone album personally a lot. Also question: Any progress on Mortal Decay LP’s?
I like the riffs and arrangements on the Deceased album Supernatural Addiction. I’m pretty sure that’s my favourite album by them because of how good the songwriting is.
I was definitley thrown off at first by that cover. But, I think all the darkthrone releases are great. Would be a good desert island band because their catalogue has it all: death, doom, black, crust. They do it all with some jokes too so I think that's why they get a pass.
BM takes itself so seriously that it’s sometimes cringey so I can appreciate some humor in light doses. Just as long as it isn’t overly ironic to the point that it’s nothing more than a meme.

I'm not a Mushroomhead fan but one thing I'm always surprised that you never mention being from Cleveland is that Brian Sekula's brother JJ from Terror played guitar for them. I think that connection is possibly a factor why Incantation opened for them.

Its obvious that you don't like Darkthrone, but on the other hand Fenriz spend much more time to promote new bands through his blog, radio and now podcast and some of them are from your label. Yet, you still call him a poser, and judge about the album by its cover. Btw Astral Fortress is great album - its like tribute to their demo days and something that could been their debut material in another universe. SO its soundscape of Kolbotn mixed with Tom G. Warrior past "ugh" life.

Brazilian black metal in general is wayyy underrated, Vulcano, Mystifier, Holocausto, Necrobutcher, Murder Rape, Amen Corner, Expulser, Impurity, etc...all the way to the modern Apocalyptic Raids, Sodomizer, Bode Preto, Power from hell...so much good stuff!
I got through tape trading in the late eighties and it blew my mind. Hadn’t listened to it in a while and it still kills. Their other albums not so much.
Think they get away with it because they stopped taking themselves seriously years ago,not heard astral yet but last release wasn't great,yeah they've changed since TH but not in a bad way,I don't mind some bands progressing or changing sounds, Anathema are a good example,with DM style there's not a great amount you can change and stay true to the genre though

I think Hate Them or FOAD was the last album I heard from them. I've wondered why they're not called sell outs myself. All the blackmetal die hards I know haven't listened to Darkthrone in yrs.
I thought the new Darkthrone was ok (6.5-7/10), but I don't think you'd like it since its quite sluggish. It basically sounds like a slower/doomier version of Hellhammer/Celtic Frost. The album cover is stupid and it doesn't sound like Transylvanian Hunger but it still in line within Darkthrone's aesthetic and influences so I wouldn't call it a sellout record.
It's not a sellout because it's terrible and won't make them any money. They were in a deep dive for years but arctic thunder brought them back. They've abandoned everything that made that album good however. They're now making cookie cutter bullshit that obviously requires zero effort
I haven’t heard the new Darkthrone yet. I’ve heard some people say it’s like their version of Hammerheart. I have no idea if that is accurate and that could be totally wrong.
I liked the new darkthrone record, but not as much as Eternal Hails. Full disclosure I like every Darkthrone album because they always do the opposite of what’s popular at the time

Fast forward to a year later they were talking shit about them not being underground anymore and selling out because they pick up traction and starting to get more of audience and playing more festivals like Maryland Deathfest. So question, if they ever remake the movie over the top, would you throw your name in a hat to be casted in the movie? Maybe as bull’s son getting revenge on Linc for beating his dad at the end of the movie?

the new Dark Throne is a collection of riffs. They range from good to average for such a band in my opinion. I thought the vocals really weren't the best. There are better albums to spend your limited time on. The only 'new' album of theirs that I liked enough to buy was Old Star, but even that doesn't match what they did in the early to mid 90s. But I'm an old goat, what do I know.
I don't mind the new Darkthrone but it's not the stellar release that everyone advertised it as. The last 4 or 5 albums sound really similar. I'm not really into that nwobhm style they use.

Darkthrone doesn't get a pass tho, at least the last 2/3 albums are phoned in garbage Dawg and the super kvlt dudes ain't been listening for the last 25 years worth. I agree that cover is for fucking pooooooooooooosers, but bad vs generic on Dork Funerals covers doesn't sell me either way. I can't even remember the last several DF record covers, but I'll definitely remember this one, for better or worse 😂
If you're going to lump Pantera & Fear Factory in with all of the wigger bands, solely based upon the fan base. You have to lump Cannibal Corpse, Slayer & probably even Cradle Of Filth in the same category. I guarantee you that most of the nu rap fans also listen to Cannibal Corpse, Slayer & Cradle Of Fags. I went to see Cannibal Corpse & Dark Funeral last night & I saw quite a few Korn & Slipknot shirts. 😂 Not to mention the Wu-Tang Clan & ICP shirts that I saw at the show.
Tbh Pantera's music cfh onward is a spitting image of their fanbase. Way better as an 80's glam band tbh especially with power metal and the cut song will to survive being their highlights.

Grunge and industrial are A cancer to the 90s metal scene. But back to Darkthrone, I think he would hate it. It’s basically black/heavy/doom metal. You’d be asking for a blanket and pillow for sure

Have not listened to the new Darkthrone yet, the cover is unappealing to say the least. To be fair the last album they put out that I even liked was Total Death and that's pushing it.
Yo J-Dawg, I don't think Darkthrone are trying to be 'Kings of Evil and Darkness' anymore . They haven't played real black metal for nearly 20 years now brah! Their new stuff just focuses on being 'primitive and old school' hard-rock and proto heavy metal as Fenriz seems to be super into that stuff. New album cover is hilarious to me and exemplifies their 'we don't give a fuck' attitude. I love how butthurt everyone is getting over the album cover too- these kind of reactions are probably what they intended! Not their best album by any means, but I'm just pointing this out. They change their sound a lot but I don't think that makes them 'sell-outs' or posers. Just metal fans playing whatever the fuck they want. Cheers!!!

The vocals are pretty weak on it.the drum sound is great.it sounds like they are trying to mix black metal with into the pandium area Celtic frost oh there are alot watered down death metal riffs

Rollergator 96' Things 89' The Miami Connection 86' Suburban Sasquatch 03' and many more. And another absolutely killer new finding is: New York Ninja! (which has an interesting history behind it)
@@Riky_Jones Surprised you're in the dark on Rifftrax, surely you're familiar with the show Mystery Science Theater 3000? Well it's made by the same people, they have lot's of sample clips up on RU-vid, to give you an idea. It's all about sarcastic commentary with those guys. They sometimes even have celebrity "guest riffers" on their show such as: Weird Al, Neil Patrick Harris and Rob Zombie.
I really like newer darkthrone releases. I think the change in sound still fits in the overall aesthetic of the band. Newer stuff is like earth playing black metal. Very chill. Last track on eternal hails is one of my favorite DT songs. That said, these Kavult tough guys crack me up. I swear to go they all just post up in their bedrooms, malnourished on a gamer diet, simping over some chick they saw in a darkthrone shirt months ago, but if they ever had an opportunity to talk to her they’d just tell her all the reasons they like darkthrone more than her. These people need to eat a protein bar, lift some weights, and save up for better amplifiers.
¸Fear Factory have some good albums, Demanufacture is one of those ahead of its time albums. Mechanize is crushing, great album, one of the best comeback albums fo sho. anyway, Fear Factory have few anti religious songs and it is always good to see when bands like that broke to mainstream for 15 minutes.

Agree! My favorite Darkthrone album since Transilvanian Hunger even. Really thought they made some good songs and the cover I even enjoy. I went into it not expecting a lot but came out loving it and buying the box set version of it!
