I heard a similar story once about dark funeral when they were touring with usurper. They were listening to Bathory the return album. Someone in the band started to trash the album “this sounds like some young American kids trying to black metal “. Someone responded with yeah they were kids but not from America. After he was told it was Bathory, he changed his tune and praising the album talking about Bathory is one of his favorite bands. Haha here’s your poser sign.
That is quite a situation! I can’t imagine not liking The Return in the first place even if a person somehow did not realize it was Bathory. Definitely proper use of the word poser. And on top of that, The Return is one of the greatest albums ever. That is just shameful!
The *Black* album had *ZERO* thrash songs on it. They mellowed out for mass appeal. If *Cannibal Corpse* toned down and put out an 80s style thrash album with the hopes of gaining more fans I'd consider it selling out even though its still metal.
@@Homeboy_Metal_Productions while I do agree, I strongly feel they softened the sound for more mass appeal rather than a direction change. I'm not one of these guys that thinks his opinion is the final word. My opinions don't invalidate anyone else's.
Actually James Hetfield said after the last date on the And Justice For All your Kirk Hammett was complaining about having to play that fast every single night. And said they all made a deal to slow things down. Metallica was still Metallica with the Black Album to me. It was Load and reload and St Anger that killed Metallica's legacy because they were a completely different band under the same name.
?? J dawg .. question.. ?? I couldn't help but notice your cd collection in the back .... What cd are the ones, that are horizontal and not filed into the shelf ??
In darkness their is no choice from Antisect is sick as fuck. Amebix is a little too slow and boring for me, but still has a few cool song. I remember hellbastard played in my city like maybe 15 years ago, the dudes were cool and we partied with them
A friend of mine gave me a Hellbastard tape around 98. He also gave me a tape by a thrash band named Grinder. I remember both of them being ok. Nothing that really stuck out. Dude also gave me a cassette by Artillery that day. That shit was great.
@@KaaiHawaiianDeathMetal Oh man...I had a Grinder cd once (it had a red cover) and yeah, it was basic heavy thrash but I traded it off shortly after. I love Hellbastard (may want to give that one another listen man...intense UK thrash!!). Artillery was pretty technical for their time...I have an Invocator cover version of an Artillery song but not too familiar with the original albums (I'll have to give them a fresh listen).
Yo J-Dong, I've got a question. Do you ever get to a point with a band that for no real reason, you just stop paying attention to? I stopped buying Deicide records after Scars, but it had nothing to do with the Hoffmans leaving. Most of what they released afterward was good when I heard it, but I just dont have any interest in getting into it. Same thing with Cannibal. I loved the wretched spawn, but never really gave much after it my full attention, even though it's all still great death metal.
Yo J-Dawg, will you ever do music reaction videos? For the majority I don’t find them interesting, but I really think many (including myself) would like that content if you were to do it. Something similar to some segments from Hellcast I guess, but I always love hearing the Dawgs thoughts to start my day.
Not Metal but my friend passed out on my couch one time playing trance on his phone or ipod. He wakes up the next day with his music still going and yells "What the fuck is this shit!" I say "I dunno dude, its your phone." He goes "What, this shit isn't mine!" walks to the stereo, sees his phone and just goes "oh..." That shit was hilarious haha.
I like *prison Burzum* (electronic) but not the *black metal* stuff. No matter what *Varg* does its never for mass appeal. Not a fan but I can respect that about him.
“Black metal elitists gonna kill me and burn my house down” hahaha!! J Devil what are your favorite October 31 songs????? “Powerhouse” is an incredible tune!!!
Hey jdawg have you ever listened the Band Catastrophic and their first Album the cleansing ?? Has members of pyrexia and trevor from Obituary ,good shit
I met those guys along with Guy Marchais at a Suffocation/Morbid Angel/Satyricon show back in 2005. The Catastrophic/Pyrexia guys were roadies for Suffocation. I asked them about what happened to the Pyrexia vocalist Darryl Wagner ('Sermon of Mockery') and they all shrugged and collectively said "I have no idea". Kinda sad actually...he was an intense death metal vocalist.
@@vesuviacorpseflower4828 Mystery? Why didn't you hear, Darryl Wagner got a sex-change, then "Darlene" moved to Europe, and she now works a snow cone stand at Euro Disney Land.
Cannibal Corpse are not Sellouts but got more mainstream , it’s like a gateway to Death metal, just like me when I discovered them in Ace Venture movie. But later on I found way better death Metal bands.
@@vesuviacorpseflower4828 lol same here but I remember when I watched Ace Ventura, I wrote down the band name to see if it was real. Later on I went to this record store in the mall and asked if they had anything from this band. The rest was history 🤣.
@@Ishitonyou666 Was it a Sam Goody or Musicland??? Those were the record stores at our local mall back in the day. I found a cd copy of Carbonized 'Disharmonized' cd there in the early 2000s. I got my first cassette in 4th Grade there also (Stone Temple Pilots 'Core' ...still have it too!!) for Christmas in 1993 -ha!! I love that album man!!
@@vesuviacorpseflower4828 I don’t remember bro, I was just glad I found a record store in the mall that had metal cds, like I mentioned before my neighbor doesn’t even like rock music, unless you’re an old timer from the 70’s lol. Carbonized is a good band, took me years to get “For the Security” album, but I actually like the 2nd one 😎. lol yeah I like Stone Temple Pilots, i remember I discovered them from The Crow soundtrack.
Some day I'd love to read an article online about how Varg was murdered by CC Deville. Think about it, that way Varg would be dead AND his kvlt status would be wiped from existence, done in by a has-been glam rock relic. _STRANGLED_ by one of CC's zebra striped spandex headbands?
@@Unleashedraider1985 LOL Well said! It'd interesting to see current photos of CC and Pamela Anderson side by side, I'd be willing to bet they share a terrifying resemblance to each another, cept of course I doubt CC has big fake tits, but other than that. I'm guessing that the other post which is blocked some how is a Varg-fan whose nursing hurt feelings ?😁?😁?😁?
What if you listen to alot of bands every day? sometimes I'm listening to four or five bands a day...than another day I'm listening to another five or six different bands.sometimes a binge on bands albums front to back.
War metal !!! I love the army and native look!! Bullets and blast beats. J dawg you should dress up as a 80s commando (metal slug dude) with war paint at a Abysmal lord show
Andy, on the matter of War Metal, have you heard Thy Primordial's "At the world of untrodden wonder" album? It's fucking awesome and even fairly innovative at times and from what I've read seems to be the fan favorite of their discography. Released in 1999, it's long out of print and expensive to purchase. I downloaded my copy.
@@aegisraven1284 I've heard differently on both counts, but lets focus on the price. Currently that CD generally costs no less than $80, but usually for more than a $100. In my book that's a lot of money for a CD.
@@dennisjordan4952 The first time I heard Kataklysm was in Death Is Just The Beginning 3. I don’t remember what song was. That was so long ago. I remember it was before Temples of Knowledge. I went out an bought the first 2 albums. Then I heard the Rays of Ra in Death Is Just The Beginning 4. I bought Temples right after that.
@@dennisjordan4952 All I remember about it. Is that supposedly Sylvain Houde went kind of crazy. Then they kicked him out. He started a new band. Then those guys left too. That is what I remember from an interview I read back around 2000. From Kataklysm. Of course his side of the story is unknown.
I can't understand why people don't like Insineratehymn, and In Torment in Hell , they are really Heavy. Is it just because of the mid tempo songs? I like them just as much as the debut, Legion, and Once Upon the Cross. I consider Amon - Liar in Wait the next Deicide album after the Live album. No Hoffman brothers, no Deicide. They founded the band, and created the concept. Deicide without the Hoffman brothers just isn't the same. Amon is much better. My favorite Deicide are the pre album demos , the guitar tone is incredible
This is gonna be a hot take, but Dying Fetus going from a typical death metal logo, to the impact font. Something about it just makes it more brutal IMO.
Sarcophago were so ahead. It already had the aggression of the early 2000s and forward thrash, while keeping a recognizable sound. Holocausto were great too. Brazil had quite a few bangers
I don't think vargs a poser,at least he's honest that there's only a hand full of metal songs he likes,,to me the only poser is he who denies that which moves him,,you don't have to listen to only metal,,a poser only listens to music he thinks he's suppose to,and don't really feel it....damn I'm like a filosofiser or some shit😂🤣🤣
Varg isn’t a poser , he admit he likes different types of music, he doesn’t really associate with a lot of metalheads , yeah the only non metal album I like from him is “Daudi Baldrs”, after that I didn’t own anything from him just “Belus”. You got a little salty when mentioning him, what is his ideology got to do with his music? I guess u forgot about the dead dude he killed that was part of the Rød Ungdom youth group smh . By the way thanks for the Burzum banner I got last week😎👍🏻🤘🏼🔥
I just love all of these Varg "experts" in the comments section saying Varg was never into metal. Matter of fact, his neighbors whe he was a youth used to say that there was loud metal music coming from his room late at night. The only thing he said was he did not like Venom even though he infamously wore their shirt on the day of his arrest claiming that he wore them more or less for Euronymous' sake. His post prison metal albums may have been more or less to get a message out to his fans rather than a love of metal but to falsely claim he has never been into metal is pure slander.
LOL You're one to talk of slander, "V-Dawg aka Rap Happy Pappy" mocking J-Dawgs good name. By the way if you really want to get J-Dawg's attention, and I assume you do with a login like that, write shorter posts and use a question mark. Use these????????👍
@Abby SimmonsWhat good name? I don't dislike the guy but he is a simple-minded rube. He is most definitely not the brains behind HHR. It's fun to poke fun at the guy for whatever reason.
@@kmartgoth8313 That makes no sense, the film is character assassin masquerading as teenager crap. Absolute garbage. No Sam Dunn Anthropology metal studies! No PC Metal observers!! No hollywood black metal!!!
Here’s a question: Is Metallica’s Black album ACTUALLY a Heavy Metal album or is it, indeed, a Hard Rock album? Also, I saw a 6 year-old wearing a Walmart Metallica shirt on yesterday. There is NOTHING Metal about Metallica anymore.
Varg never cared for metal music, even admited that himself in interviews, he never liked any metal bands, but he always wore shirts of bands like sodom, celtic frost, bathory etc. to appeal to the metal fanbase, he enjoyed creating his own music tho. As a poser he is, that does not change the fact that his music is some of the most influental in black metal
🤣 This sothis schmuck feels the need to bitch at all the posts that rightly shit on Varg! What do bet right this very moment Vargyboy is wearing a pair of heavily stained sweatpants, is drinking a tall glass of Strawberry Quick while watching the Smurfs. Why the Smurfs? That's the source of his "inspiration" for his next "supreme musical statement". \m/ Burzum fan for life \m/
Varg says metal sucks and the only metal album he still likes is Iron Maiden Somewhere in time or whatever it’s called. I don’t even know how much he ever was into metal.
He was when he was younger, but if I recall correctly, as he got older and more into culture and history, he started to shift more towards ambient and folk music.Funny enough if anyone ever asks Varg for music suggestions, he almost always suggests techno music.
@@NightsInEden999 I may be wrong but pretty sure that’s what I can remember from his RU-vid channel and what he’s said on Twitter and I don’t think I’ll be far off.
Hey J-Dawg, allow me to offer you a new term that you can use to deride weak shitty bands and their albums with, just call it what it is: Eunuch Metal. How I define "Eunuch Metal" is any metal that lacks true aggression (regardless of genre or era) which I'm sure you'll agree is not a difficult assessment to make. The biggest offenders have to be black metal (Burzum) euro-power metal (Dragon Force) and off course the ever loathsome "folk metal" (Finntroll), but there are examples of Eunuch Metal found in all genres. It's also my experience that keyboards = Eunuch Metal more often then not, but not always. Does anyone remember "life metal" from the early 90's, possibly the worst name ever. So there you have it J-Dawg, go for the "Eunuch" and give the "Poser" a rest. \m/
@@sothis1448 LOLOL And yet several of Burzum's (who are the "greatest ever") albums aren't even metal. I've been into metal for 30 years, and have thousands albums - nice try.
@@abbysimmons3258 How is that relevant? He released the greatest music in existence, evolving into ambient music doesn't effect that. You can listen to metal for the rest of your life and own millions of albums, it doesn't matter, you will never understand, silly girl.
@@sothis1448 When you put down the guitar and all you do is masturbate a keyboard well then your "music" is no longer metal of any kind. That's something that's not hard to understand, by the way. But you're right I, like you, think Varg is GOD \m/\m/ TOOL!!! LOLOLOL😁😁😁😁
