Caldwell vs Metcalf is still my favorite match. (Edit: Changed "Metcalf vs Caldwell" to "Caldwell vs Metcalf." Darrion won, his name should come first!)
Metcalf got dominated in the Finals and I believe it was because he simply underestimated Caldwell. Metcalf had more drive; Caldwell had more heart and didn't fear Brent like most of the other guys.
@@billdykeman8298 lol, sure, after competing against the very best in the world for years and years. Now he coaches, giving back what he’s learned over the years. If only others could move on so well after their souls were crushed.
@@kineticsage8137 I don’t think Metcalf lost his soul.. He just took some tough Ls .. He bounced back and completed.. Even though Molinaro took it to him
I’m not sure why people bashing on cardwell. He did a back flip he just won the National title. I’d still would hold a grudge to. Metcalf took that moment way from him. Metcalf was unprofessional.
@@gfunkera1what it was showboating. Are you trying to say him being shoved while in mid air altering his landing and potentially causing physical injury is justified because of it?
No doubt I'm about 13 years late to this comment game but Caldwell whooped Metcalf's ass. He dominated him. There is no other take. I love triumph stories like these. This is what competitive sports are all about.
I know this this 3 years old but Caldwell was the man and still is the man Jersey Strong 💪🏼 you had me in tears to because I was happy as hell for you and all that work and training you did go get there
I’m from Jersey and was Happy for DC.. I don’t necessarily agree with the showboating but definitely don’t agree with the shove ..When these guys compete at this level they put so much time and effort into wrestling. It becomes their obsession because they want it so bad. Metcalf didn’tKnow how to deal with it and made a mistake. I heard him speak and conduct a few clinics and he seems like a pretty nice guy. DC seems like a good guy to.Should probably just let it go.
Regardless that doesn't justify him being pushed in midair while upside down doing a backflip. He could have been severely hurt all because Metcalf is a sore loser and a poor sport.
This is a little ridiculous. I don't think the push was on purpose like that. There was still time on the clock. You could think of it as disrespectful that he started a celebration before time was out. I think Metcalf maybe just had some work to do on his style. The pushing forward Iowa esque style is awesome. Also what made him become successful in this sport. But, I think on the world and olympic level people were able to work around it and find unique ways to counter-act it. I don't think it had anything to do with that match. Still, he was and still is awesome for this sport. Also, I think he was trying to say they are like Ash and Gary. Relating it to Pokemon is cool lol But, maybe they are trying to hype up a rematch. That could turn into a series. Which, could be an interesting event and bring attention//revenue to the sport. In that case, its king of lit lol, potentially
@@8326nazir oh I agree, Brent is a amazing wrestler. But he thought he was going to mimck his high school career and when he lost he made himself look bad.
If I remember correctly Caldwell was celebrating and throwing his hands in the air before the match was over, it was definitely in a disrespectful manner. I'm not saying that Metcalf is in the right but Caldwell wasn't exactly being a sportsman either.
I remember watching this match. Caldwell absolutely dominated Metcalf. And while the backflip was ill advised, the shove was uncalled for and not tolerable. I was a Caldwell fan that day. Loved his domination of Metcalf. But that being said, I'm saddened that 12 years later Caldwell still wants to fight Metcalf as he stated. Seriously? Let it go. You won that day. That's small and weak minded mentality.
@@dasupremegentlelad4321 there's quite a difference between someone pushing someone (which was uncalled for) in the heat of the moment and someone 12 years later stating they still want to fight, wouldn't you say? I'm sure 12 years later that Metcalf is much more mature and regretful of his actions, he's stated as much. He's grown and matured. Clearly Caldwell hasn't, and that makes me sad because his win was one of the greatest I've ever seen and no, it wasn't ruined by the shove. Every wrestling fan remembers that match.
I think its just the competitive nature of both athletes. Caldwell beat him fair & square on the mat but Metcalf kind of got the cheap shot and Caldwell probably wants to settle it in the octagon.
@@rickemery7186 yeah, and that's what I find sad. What does he need to settle? It's already settled, Caldwell whipped him. Metcalf made himself look even more foolish by doing the shove at the end. Taking the high road is generally the better option. I'm sad Caldwell hasn't.
Metcalf whooped his A in the All star match. He underestimated him in the finals, it happens, as for DC wanting to wrestle him again. He had his chance in FS, why didn't DC show up???, it's not like Metcalf ran away from wrestling lolol Metcalf would have beat his A in a rematch
You people who care about "sportsmanship " probably never played sports at a high level... and if given a chance to ncaa would love a lot of their big matches to end in "sportsmanship" controversy.... and by the way the only one that was actually a poor sport was Metcalf because they docked a team point from Iowa
ehhh...it's mild compared to the craziness that happens today before, during, and after UFC matches. Hell, NCAA wrestling has a lot more showmanship, trash talking, etc., than I ever remember now.
Why? Because a Black man celebrated his victory over a white man who was said to be unbeatable? How does him celebrating by doing a backflip deprive him of "fans"? He had every right to do a backflip. Metcalf is just a poor sport and a sore loser.
@@DerricRay you're really stupid enough to make it about race, it happened he most likely lost fans because of it even during the match i remember people thought they took a point from his team for the flip when it was Iowa that lost the point, what I'm saying and what the comment was saying is no one liked that he did the flip even though yes he had the right to
@@831original.__kingx7 Seems someone is triggered and butt hurt lol No I'm wise enough to acknowledge that race had a major part to do with it. That's common sense. He didn't lose any fans. They were never his "fans" to begin with. I loved that he did the backflip. I would have loved it even more if he was actually able to execute it instead of being pushed midair by Metcalfs cry baby sore loser ass.
@@DerricRay there's always some low life that's got to bring race into everything oh and by the way Luke pletcher whipped your boy's ass a couple of months ago.
Are we seriously going to forget he used injury time before the match ended to get his wind back because his “back hurt” then suddenly his back was fine and did a back flip?
You don't actually know if he needed it or not. And how many times do you see wrestlers take advantage of injury time, blood time, playing the out of bounds line etc...part of the sport.
@@darylc2799 he needed it because he needed the breathing room from the pace of the match,,,, its a fact his pace slowed drastically he wore ALOT of distress on his face I wrestled long enough to know that if a wrestler (supposed to be a tough sport obviously) is that you push through and work through your injuries now if you were actually to be REALISTICALLY hurt as a wrestler an ELITE wrestler at that and call injury time thats only for ONE reason ...its that youre actually hurt then you call "injury time" for your back then do an ENTIRE back flip 45 seconds later? if caldwell got you fooled there i truly feel sorry for your inability to understand wrestling and what actually happened. youre saying use rules to your advantage... true ...but dont lie to your advantage get your win the honest way.....PERIOD
@@jrlopez5942 Wasn't he up 9 to 4 midway through the 3rd period? hmmm. Sounds like it wouldn't have made a difference anyway. Seems you were watching another match, my silly Latino friend. SIGH
dc coming off a bit delusional/cte'ish. yeah, dude, you crushed metcalf's life-force. he only managed another national championship, and ten senior level medals over the next six years. the comment at 1:10 takes the cake. like metcalf is the only uber-talent to never win an oly. medal. anyone remember the crocodile dundee line, "shit for brains...?"
It’s been over 10 years and he wants to fight him still 🙄 Geez. Oh come on Caldwell. Whatever Caldwell. Your rivalry come on, this sorta disappointed me.
Yep and rightfully so. Metcalf tried to take away Caldwell's moment of celebration because he's a poor sport and a sore loser. And because he lost to a Black man lol
Just thank God we don't have too many of these Caldwells in the sport or they would ruin it like they did basketball and football and most major cities in the U.S..
Look, Metcalf definitely shouldn't have pushed him mid backflip. But Dude, you fucking started celebrating before the match was over. You were bending over to do that front handspring before they even blew the whistle. Metcalf was definitely a poor sport, but you're going to talk about respect, and you disrespect someone else before the match is even over. I don't even like Metcalf, and I'm not defending him, but don't sit here and act like celebrating before the match is even over is about "respect." Don't give me that.
Here comes the “I don’t even like metcalfe” argument lol bro part of having class is knowing when you’ve been defeated. He didn’t have anything to gain. Those guys dedicate their lifes to winning a NCAA title you don’t get to tell them how they should or shouldn’t celebrate. Especially when it’s only a backflip.
@@cjb2836 big name no results always choked in big matches couldn't even make Olympic team after 12 years of overhype. 12 years to make Olympic team trained by Iowa and couldn't do anything. He's the ryan leaf of wrestling
If he didn't talk about himself in the third person I think he would have had the success that he should have had. Still I wouldn't say that he was overrated. He was a DI NCAA champion. I don't think you can "overrate" an NCAA champion without underrating the difficulty in obtaining an NCAA championship. Still, even though Metcalf was a tool, I don't think he was overrated. He was a disappointment definitely. But he wasn't overrated.
