Masterclass 4# on How to play darts, how to throw straight darts. This segment is based on fitting your darts to land upright, this helps you hit my 180s.
I'm the official coach of Glen Durrant among many others through straight to thr point darts and also a part of Glen Durrants' coaching business.
All of my video's are based on how to play darts as well as advice on equipment to guide dart players in their darting journey.
I am a full-time darts coach working with PDC professionals and armatures alike.
I throw around an 80 average myself with my left hand due to injury and dartitis in my right arm.
I may, on occasion, use footage from the Professional darts corporation (the P.D.C) as well as The British Darts organisation (The B.D.O). These are used under fair use legislation, and all credit should be given to the rightful creators.

Stumbled across your channel the other day and it’s been an instant source of help and knowledge, I’ve been playing for about 4 months now and your tips are great. Could I suggest a topic for masterclass? Could you do one on dart weight and how to figure out which weight is best for oneself? Thank you mate
@Straightdarts

That's a good one, I'll stick it on my todo list. As a general rule the faster your arm travels, the lighter the dart you'll need.

I naturally have my point resting on my ring finger and just kind of let the dart fly it over as as I release it. Gave it the little flick and I got a triple 20 my first go. I am new to darts and those are still pretty rare things! I have found it naturally makes my darts land higher up the board which is good for me because mine tend to fall a little low. It's a neat little addition that will improve my scoring. Thanks!
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
Yes, flick will help the dart land higher due to the shift in weight from back to front when the dart kicks. :)

I used to stand darts up too much if anything. As a short arse it was terrible if I missed T20 low. After a layoff I've been struggling to get them above flat. I think part of it is nerves during a game, I find myself putting more fingers on the dart than I ever used to and the result is a dart laying down or flat with the flight pointing way past my left hand side. Nothing but hard work to sort it
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 5 месяцев назад
It's sounds like it's your timing, I haven't made a video on this as it's to advance. But I'd recommend you work on your drawback and try to find a little pause at the end of the drawback. Then throw softer with the arm and just flick with the wrist. Softer, flick more! :)

Nice one bud. Dart shape and weight can help too! I don’t do either of them as far as I’m aware. I used shorter stems and larger flights to give maximum drag to get that flight up! Be great to meet at some point and do a collaboration!!
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
That it correct, the bigger the flight and closer to the barrel the more the air catches the flight so the elevation is increased. :) and definitely, I'd like that. 👍

Here is a good game for beginners, set a timer for however long you want and start at 20, if you miss all darts you will move down to 19 and so on but if you hit one you move up, if you run out of time and you're on 1 to 5 you lose. You can make it harder or easier by having 5 darts or having to hit 2/3 darts if it becomes too easy. Playing this game will make you feel more pressured if you're playing by yourself .

Once again my friend, Good stuff...Im lucky because my dart lands like that naturally, I think its because of the way my darts are set up...but using a marker dart is soo incredibly good for getting those triples in, ...keep the good stuff coming brother, catch you later...

Hi great video. Just one question although I totally agree with you. Can you explain how wayne mardle got his to stand up so well. Wayne gripped his dart right at the front of the front used medium shafts and a no6 flight and honestly I think he was the best at doing this..many thanks
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 11 месяцев назад
He puts the middle under the point and flicks it up a lot. He is amazing at flick the point. Flicking the point is something that's incredibly hard to learn. It's so sensitive and can easily go wrong. :)

@ggg_ggg_ggg_gg Год назад
Thank you for all of the excellent videos! Your advice is helpful and succinct. Question for you, how does player height factor into throwing mechanics, styles? Have you noticed any trends among taller or shorter pros, for example?
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
Yes, you tend to find that shorter players struggle not to lift the elbow as much when throwing for the top of the board. Due to this shower players generally need to flick their wrist more and get their arm moving a touch faster. :)

Great video. I’ve been looking for something like this since I’m a rear gripper and my darts do the opposite- they always, no matter what I try leave my hand point down, so then wobble around before finally landing quite parallel to the board, or slight point up. Can you explain the part you mention about pushing the rear of the dart down on release? I think this is what I’m missing? Thanks, and great channel!
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 8 месяцев назад
Hi, Thanks for your kind words. To push on the rear, keep tge grip very fair back, slightly on the stem can help. And make sure you keep he elbow sill. You then want your first finger and thumb to be the last to come off the darts. :)

@F2pDeXter
@F2pDeXter Год назад
Do all pros do this? Couldn't you also throw the dart in an arc in a way that it stays perfectly on that arc? So no tilting, turning, etc. Wouldn't this be more consistent?
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
Yes, they do. You don't want to throw with a big parabolic curve. Being consistently acetate is very difficult with that method, and you never throw the same at all targets. The distance between targets isn't the same, so in order to keep the darts landing consistently, you'll all ways adjust the curve. It's easy to start lobbing the darts with this method as well. Find the path you want the dart to travel down and keep the throw the same at all targets. Flick the darts or push them. :)
@F2pDeXter
@F2pDeXter Год назад
@@Straightdarts Thanks! I gotta focus on this then. I always tried to throw in an arc removing as much tilt as possible. I didn't get much better though so I'm going to try the flick/push and see how it goes :) I find this very difficult to do however.
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
@DeXter Try a small push off the fingers at release, but most importantly, get the wrist flicking. Your wrist should be 90% of the power.
@elfmeter10

I seem to have a natural arc as soon as dart leaves my hand , spins alot too . Is this good or bad ? I dont think there is any flick of the dart like what you've shown here where the flight is pointing backwards before it corrects .
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 3 месяца назад
You the point to be level or pointing up, on or soon after release. If the dart spins tight its fine but if it starts to fishtail or flys sidway, your gunna be spinning the dart off. :)
@inthemj99

Actually I want to change my throw like this but I'm holding near middle of my barrel. I tried to change my index finger but my throw I'm using middle finger for touch point ,so I didn't change I don't feel comfortable when I'm throwing. This technique is better for stacking but how can I do that without change my comfortable grip.
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 2 месяца назад
You either have to change the grip or you can keep them flat with a small fight so the bed is less obstructed by the other darts. Let the dart land flat like Taylor in the early 2000s.

@@StraightdartsThanks for your advice mate. I'll try it asap on different flights. My grip actually like Gary Anderson but I didn't understand why I didn't kick the flight. He's an absolute talent ofc 😂 I hope I'll take a throwing analysis from you.

I’m trying to straighten up my throw keeping my elbow tucked in to keep my forearm straight this is causing my upper arm to hurt any advice why this may be happening.
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts 5 месяцев назад
I'd need to see your throw on this one, but I'd firstly try to keep your elbow and shoulder pointing down the same path you want the dart to fly, e.g under double three when hitting the center of the board. :)

@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
Try and keep your elbow still, and the palm of your hand faces the dartboard. Leaving a bit more distance between yourself and the dart when aiming as well as keeping the drawback shorts is also helpful. :)

Why do my darts seem to stick more loose in the board when I use smaller flights? I like to throw with Bulls pear flights and short stems (steve beaton darts) but then my darts are often very loose in my board (which is rather old tbh)
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
Are they wabbling when they fly to the board with the smaller flights?
@tims.3916
@tims.3916 Год назад
No, they just fly quite fast
@Straightdarts
@Straightdarts Год назад
@Tim S. It must be something to do with the stability of the bugger flight, I have never seen a small flight hit the bord softer. It could also be affected by the point. If your darts don't have alot of protrusion into the board or you use long points, you may need that extra stability the bigger flight offers. Stability on entry is important. :)
