Darts Tips & Hacks: How to remove a broken darts stem - shaft

Hi there and thanks for your reviews, I find them very helpful in the quest for the perfect dart. I have a "secret" tip for your tips and hacks series. If your darts fall out of the board and you are considering getting some board gripper points that will destroy your dartboard, just get a small piece of 320 grit emery cloth, fold it and pinch about 10mm of the tip of your dart point and twist it maybe 10 times, two things will happen, the point will not enter the board as deep and it will stick to the board better without ruining the board. This effect wears off so if you dont like it, just dont do it again. It works best with regular stainless points and it will destroy any coating you may have on your points. Feel free to compare this method to any type of board gripping points. By the way, the perfect dart at this moment is the Target Lightnig Storm 23g with a regular point.

Thanks very much for this video! I broke a stem for the first time earlier today, after 4 years of playing darts. I was playing outside on the porch and it's the dead of winter here in Aus, so bounce outs are proving fatal! I don't have that little darts tool, so was about to melt the broken stem and stick a knife in it to twist it out. Your way is far better and worked a treat.

thanks mate just brought 3 sets of Shafts Winmau Prism Force and had 2 break on me in ten minutes first one came out ok but second needed your help its out now .. not been playing long about a year never had this problem with any other stem wont be buying them again to brittel ... thanks for your help mate..

Saved my darts from the bin! Thanks! Worth noting, I ran it under cold water to set the plastic and make the screwdriver more handle able.

Good tip. I use a wood burning set to make the divot in in the stem. Then use a "micro" screw driver like yours to unscrew.

Unicorn Gripper for me, just as well. Second one which broke. The first I got out just fine, the other one, sadly, got rounded but I still freed my dart from it (heated up the whole thing to melt the plastic and then got it out, the dart is fine, it's tungsten which doesn't melt or break that easily on a few hundred degree celsius)

If the stub of your broken stem is difficult when trying to rotate it with a dart point, try putting the barrel in your freezer for a bit. Thermoplastics have a significantly greater coefficient of thermal expansion than tungsten does (or brass and other metals), so cooling them should create more clearance between the surfaces.

This literally just happened to me 2 days ago I have it fixed now but man it was a nightmare to get out

I keep a broken stem remover on my keys or dart wallet. only had to use it once but it worked, had the stem out in 10 secs. Was only a couple of pounds.Heating up a metal instrument and using it to cut into plastic... I thought all those videos on youtube had lost popularity :P maybe you should get a blow torch and cut some dart stuff in half and cash in while the knife is hot.

YES YES YES!!! Hint to help, if the screwdriver oxidizes, it's too hot. I had to knock the plastic off the screwdriver with a couple hammer hits XD Ordering tool MEANT to remove dart tips NOW!!

Can anyone please help me? I bought a broken stem remover, but i dont understand how it works? Its not sharp enough to dig into the plastic stem or aim i using it wrong? I just end up heating a stanley knife and that works every time, but wish this stem remover would also work? Any help, thanks.

Didn't work for me, the plastic ended up melting and got all over the threads, is there a dart that has metal/aluminium thread shaft that don't break like the plastic thread

hey, I just got a dart set as a gift, figure they're on the cheaper side....the stems are always breaking and the fins always fly out. I can't imagine that this is this normal?? is it due to poor quality? are there not darts made with hard rubber vs. plastic?

Happened to me once. I took some gum, chewed it up well. Stuck it on the stem inside the dart. Put it in the freezer for 5 mins and then just twist it out
