❤oh man absolutely fine. Brilliant boyhood memories for me. This must be the band that I first seriously got into..🎉I'm 55 now and this has got me reminiscing. Now, this band was wild for its time. Love them..
Anybody that doesn't like Darts is clearly clinically insane. They made some fantastic music. I was only 10/11 when they were at the height of their success but I've never stopped enjoying their talent. This was so good to watch.
In the 70,s my band was filling in for the House Band at The Crystal Room (cabaret).Hereford. The top of the bill were Darts. They had Rob Davis(Mud guitarist) also Kenny Andrews (fantastic bass vocals). They were great fun.(party night). The piano player used a Yamaha stage electric grand (cp 70). He played a blistering version of Nut Rocker. I’ve been a fan ever since.
The show Mark Lamarr was trying to think of near the end was “Crackerjack”. The episode was taped on February 7th and it aired on February 17th, 1978. I know that because I was on the show too. I was a magician in the “young entertainers” portion of the show. I had seen Darts on top of the pops a couple of times, and I was very excited to meet them that day. They were very friendly to this American 12-year-old who happened to be living in England at the time. I’ve been a big fan of theirs ever since.
This brought it all back. I played piano in the band when it was Rocky Sharpe and the Razors in 1976. Strange thing to see how old they all look now, (except Rita) , when I still look the same. It was a great time. I ended up solo going all over the world, and still am. Dont have to split the money.
Thank you so much for putting a smile on my face and the memories of such fabulous tunes , i got married in 2023 to my beautiful wife and played "Duke of Earl" as she walked down the isle as she's my southern duchess 💓
They were on top of the pops in `77 -`78 almost as often as Slade were 5 years before. When i hear Daddy Cool i instantly remember Darts.Top of the Pops at that time were really the pop show to watch if you as a 12 year old kid.
What a brilliant you tube vid!! Luckily saw darts 3 times back in the day, and have always had darts records around. gotta 24 year old musician son who loves them and now ive gone from from 13 year old to 56 and around 40 years later, going to see them in Leeds In 2020, my lad is more buzzing than i am!! How cool is that !!
I grew up in Walthamstow and watching the Darts perform Daddy Cool on top of the pops was almost a subversive act at that time in that place. Loved it love them. So pleased to find this rockumentary love to you all.
Just seen them for the first time at the iconic 100 Club London last Friday night, they are amazing. I met Den afterwards, glad he's still wacky on stage! the memories of seeing Darts on TOTP came flooding back too. Looking forward to seeing them again in 2020!
Absolutely love Darts, first gig I ever went to. Ticket cost £1.50, I was supposed to be home for 10pm, but the show was too fantastic to leave early!! Saw them 3 times, met them each time got their autographs. Love singing along to their fantastic harmonies.😍❤️💕🎶
Way back in 1977 in London where I grew up Elvis had died, grease was on at the cinema, and the music changed, a big rock n roll revival, darts played a big part of that for me. 43 years have been into rockabilly/rock n roll music, whatever you want to call it. Thank you Darts. PS enjoyed the documentary.
Back in the late 70s I must have only been 8 or 9 when and uncle gave me his copy of "Everyone Plays Darts", the pinball machine front cover amazed me and I jumped around to the tunes and loved them all, and played it till there wasn't a groove left in the vinyl. Nowadays it's still a great feel-good, sing-along (badly), driving album, but I can't un-hear the click/scratch that "My Friend's Wife" used to have in the opening..........
Love Darts. The only band whose fan club I joined. I was fan number 21. Still got the signed photo of them all. Saw them at Sheffield City Hall and remember Den Hegarty climbing up the stage curtains.
Brings back very happy memories watching this. I remember getting dressed up to go see Darts in Yakety Yak, then getting invited up on the stage to dance at the end. Also saw them at the 100 Club in late 2000s. Always loved the band and I hope they keep going as long as they can. Thanks.
Band came to play in Jersey when I was just starting off drumming as a kid. Never seen anything like them then or I have to say since... brilliant band. Made in back to their hotel to meet them.. Den Hegarty mad as a hatter the band were brilliant with us... I think Rita Ray was my first crush and bit seeing her now nothings changed. Great to see the video.. so many great memories thanks guys👍🏻
Forgotten??? Not by me I still play their albums regularly always will have a soft spot for them as I was Teddy boy in the 70s their first album is still my favourite. Great band and will never be forgotten they were Ace👍
Really great band -saw them live at the Glasgow Apollo all those years ago-I sing in a band now myself -they made a deep and wonderful impression on me - proper musicians and singers not pretentious- hope they tour again.
Had never heard of them until I heard their version of Don’t Mess Around With Love on a Carolina Beach Music playlist ! Wow ! What a song ! So I checked them out on RU-vid. Love them !
So many young artists take themselves so seriously you would think they are going to broker peace in the middle east with the self importance they show not realising how idiotic they are but The Darts were fun always and made music fun. Long live the Darts!
Always liked this band. I was stage roadie for Den Hegarty and the Random Band at Dingwalls in 1980. What a fantastic bunch of great people as well as awesome players/singers. Big Den attacked me while I was keeping watch in the wings and (evidently) when I was on stage helping the girl Singer - who was having microphone trouble - he was behind me making lewd gestures. An absolute privelige.
' Come back my love ' was the first single I fell in love with.Always seemed to be in the charts . God they must have had a blast, and different characters.Den's very agile 34:00
Excellent. Rita Ray...seriously hot and Bob Fish still great range. If you've seen Dr K the boogie woogie piano man on youtube, Hammy the original piano player gave him lessons.
Saw them twice in the 70's at Leicester's De Montfort Hall. Brilliant entertainment. On first visit, Den climbed stage speaker stack onto first floor balcony and sat astride some unnerved bloke who wondered what he'd let himself in for comfronted face to face with riot in cell block number 9 mock-menacingly only inches away lol
Who doesn't love Darts an intro duction to rock n roll,do wop for teens.see Den Hegarty at twinwoods with the Thunderbirds.always thought he's not the full ticket in a proper showman sort of way
Love Darts. Simply Superb. Largely forgotten? Never! And Rita! Oh Rita!! Ritaaaaaaa!!! Cause of my teenage hormones to explode (and I mean explode). Not to mention cause of my lifelong abhorrence of racism - everyone was white where I grew up. That hip wiggle!!!! OMG!!!!! Beyond brilliant!!!!!!
They were something different and wonderful fun to watch. Such a pity they got ripped off so badly during their successful years. And like was mentioned, if they had been around in the era of MTV and the music video......the story SHOULD have ended very differently !
If they partied with Lemmy of Motorhead, for a little while, this is further proof, that Doo wop or Ted or Rock n Roll music pop bands, can be friends with Rock bands, or anyone of any type of music, be friends with any other type of music bands.
One of the greatest bands of the 70's however I can remember watching a late night gig on I'm sure it was ITV, if it exists on video anywhere can someone please tell me where I can get a copy??
Some over the top embellishing from Danny Baker there. For 21 top 20 hits, try eight; and for 9 top 10s, try six. That was no mean feat in those days, so no need to exaggerate (but it is Danny Baker after all). At least he got the three #2 hits right. Also, Griff was mistaken when he said 'Come Back My Love' was #2 to 'Wuthering Heights'; it was actually ABBA's 'Take A Chance On Me' (still one of the year's best-sellers though).
