The guy loses a perfect game on the last batter and he's got a big fat smile on his face. Gotta respect a guy who's just happy to be out there doing what he loves.

You can tell Yu Darvish is a great guy though. He doesn't throw his glove in anger, or stomp on the mound, or rage at his defense not being able to get to the ball, he just smiles.

@moegerms

When I first heard about this I thought it was a joke that the last out of a perfect game slipped through his legs. He laughs at first but as he walks away from the mound his expression changes, probably thinking "that was too fucking close, will I do it again?" Also kind of rude to have pulled him from the game immediately after, even if he did give up another hit, he'd still get the shutout.

@mysticalmurray6373 7 лет назад
mallexjansen it was opening day, the manager didn't want to risk injuring him since he might not be fully warmed like he would in the middle of one. And from what I heard he said he was going to pull him out in the 8th but changed his mind till the end of the perfect game

If they had as much analytical information back in 2013 as they have in 2024, Elvis Andrus would have been shifted a lot closer to 2nd, and would have got it. I remember watching this entire game with my dad and brother and being so disappointed. Still had a lot of fun watching the rangers win a lot of games and Darvish strikeout a lot of guys back then. Who knew it would be another ten years till they won the World Series.

Would you guys stop blaming the announcer?! For those of you who think mentioning the perfect game is what ruins it, go and watch the video of Randy Johnson's perfect game (it's on RU-vid). Braves announcer Skip Caray said, and I quote, "A perfect game with one out to go", and the VERY NEXT PITCH STRUCK OUT Eddie Perez to seal it. Besides, there are around 30,000 people in the stadium who've seen the whole thing, who ALL know what's going on. Everyone on both teams know what's going on. As Skip alluded to earlier in the game, the scoreboard even shows the numbers for everyone to see. So mentioning it isn't going to change anything. Even if there's some "psychological" aspect to it, it's not like the pitcher can hear the TV announcer. There've even been pitchers who mentioned the perfect game during the perfect game, including Mark Buerhle and - wait for it - Don freaking Larsen. There's no "jinx". Get over it.

he said Yu was "perfect" back in the 5th inning. nothing happened either way. in 2009 when Mark Buehrle was throwing a perfect game he went around the clubhouse asking "hey, you think I'm gonna do it? you think I can actually throw a perfect game?" he did that cause he didn't believe in Jinxes.

Also a form of confirmation bias, like people who assume god is listening because they got a promotion at work when in reality its probably because they're good workers and deserved it regardless of their beliefs.
