Arias was one of the worst hitters I've ever seen in a Giants uni, but he made a couple of really tough plays in this game (especially that short-hop at short).
Sort of the opposite scenario, but as a Mariners fan it was so fitting that Felix’s perfect game was 1-0 lol. That was the theme of his Mariners career, no goddamn run support.
They had him positioned perfectly... a bit to the centerfield side despite a lefty batting, and he brilliantly broke on the ball with the crack of the bat
Absolutely. I remember I was watching a different game that same night but the broadcast cut starting after 8.2 innings. As a Rangers fan I’m still a tad bitter about losing the World Series to the giants but I was going nuts in my living room cheering on Cain. Astounding performance and humility to boot
Man this is just one of many amazing moments from the greatest era of Giants baseball. It’s 2020 as I’m writing this, and looking back I cannot believe how spoiled us Giants fans were during 2010-2014.
Pure art by Cain. Unbelievable. I remember Blanco had no earthly reason to be that Center of Right Field, but he was, and it worked out perfectly. Probably my favorite no-hitter/perfect game saving catch ever. Also, Nicole Vogelsong looks more happy than Cain's wife lol. I love her, she still shows The Giants love.
Clayton Reid No actually she was asked about that and admitted that she was confused bc she didnt understand why everyone was going nuts for just throwing a complete game.
Going back and watching this, I'm realizing some of the defensive plays that were all made were insanely difficult. Outs 6, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, and, of course, 27 were far from routine. Really a testament to how good the Giants' defense was and had to be that night.
this game is special to me. this game took place on my dads last birthday, and this was his favorite team. exactly ten years ago. may he rest in peace🙏🏽
I had the TV off this night because I needed to study. But then I saw the box score through 3 innings that Cain hadn't given up a hit. I felt it could happen right then. Cain had come so close earlier in the season against the Pirates - only the PITCHER had a hit off of him. I watched from the 4th onward, and ended up not studying the rest of the night.
What makes a perfect game so rare is that even when you get to the last pitch you still cannot afford yourself to dream about it.. because one hit could crush you forever. These men are giants.
We were in town for the US Open at Olympic and were offered tickets to this game. Luckily we said yes. Truly one of the greatest sporting events I have ever attended, right up there with being at a World Series clinching game!
This was one of the best called games ever. Everything about this game was phenomenal. Even the throw from 3rd at the end. The camera zooming out, everything.
I love it. First thing he says. "Wow" I also love that he gives Posey a ton of credit for the game he called and caught. People sometimes forget it takes a catcher to even pitch. And every single perfect game, every single time a pitcher gets 27 BIG LEAGUE batters down without a single hit or walk given or allowed, every single time it is amazing and singularly special. It's rare and it's just a truly difficult thing to pull off. A beautiful game. A perfect game. Really no such thing as perfection. In major league baseball.... there is. But it is not something simply done. I love that.
I shed a man tear for Cain's final game last week. He was a giant for as long as I can remember and this game was one of the most memorable viewing experiences I've ever had
I watched this live, it was an incredible night. Of course, they would go on to win their second WS in three years. The early-mid '10s was an awesome time to be a Giants fan. Can't wait for our next WS win 50 years from now...
I wish I could have been at this game. What a performance by Cain. On the other hand, I was in the park for Cain's domination of the Rangers in Game 2 of the 2010 World Series and that is a memory for a lifetime. The look in Cain's eyes while he warmed up before the game predicted the outcome. We had seats deep along the 3rd base line not far from the foul pole (Row 21/Section 131), so we got to see Renteria's homer up close and personal. This is the only baseball game I have ever attended where the excitement in the stands made it feel most like a major college bowl game or an NCAA March Madness game.
I used to always say he deserved to get a no-no based on his workhorse performances. Little did I know the baseball gods had something even better in store for him.
Inf Know even with the perfect game and WS rings he still had one of the most unlucky careers I've ever seen. I don't believe in karma but this game was good karma
Remember racing home after my shift was over to watch the 9th. Any pitcher going for the no-no or perfect game is as nerve racking as game 7 of the World Series.
Always love this game, for the fact, that as good as Cain was pitching that night, he didn't just strike out every batter. There were several exceptional defensive plays made in the outfield and infield, because every no-hitter and perfect game is a team effort.
One of the greatest moments in Giants history. I remember watching it on ComCast with Kruk and Kuip and Dave and Jon calling it. I was on pins and needles after Blancos great catch. What a game
Watching this makes me smile and happy to be a Giants fan. It has been a few bad years here lately and there will be a few more to come, but one day they will return to form. It's not if, but when. Go Giants!
Such an amazing moment in Giant's history. I was out on a walk and listening on the radio. I whooped as walking though my neighborhood when the last out was made. Then spent the rest of the night watching replays. Amazing.
I had some friends that were at that game ! I was at grandparents house watching it on tv looking for my friend ! Watching george Blanco’s catch live was insane my heart was sinking . So much goosebumps !!
I was at the Matt Cain perfect game. Best day of my life. We saw the perfect game with Blanco's catch. I scooped up a foul ball from Buster Posey down the 3rd base line. And this is the craziest part, the US open was in SF that year and Dustin Johnson was at the game, so Taylormade gave out brand new drivers ( R 11s) to one row in the stadium, and it just so happened to be my row. Ridiculous night
It was incredible listening to this on the radio. From the 7th on, the capacity crowd held their breath with every pitch. Cain was the best Giant for several lean years, but never had the wins to show for it. After this perfect game I feel like he lost a little something.
Great editing! Thanks for posting. I got embarrassingly emotional watching this. There was a young family sitting near us at this game who weren't baseball aficionados, and were perplexed why the crowd was so excited when it was 10-0 in the 7th. I asked the dad if he knew what was happening, and then explained we might be witnessing history. Loved seeing the two very young children scream and holler with the other 40,000 after the last out. I think that might have been their very first baseball game! And Cain was correct - NO ONE left until after his interview.
I love watching this. Not only did i watch the entire game, but this was the first game my 7 year old (now 16 years old) he actually watched with me. Still remember asking what i watching and he said oh, I will watch too. Great sports memory and great father son moment for me.
Love how he literally gives all the credit to posey and his teammates. Classic Cain, never one to take the spotlight, and always appreciated the city and his family in the Giants org. Couldn't think of a better representative of the Giants heart and soul to do this.
My grandma was a huge giants fan, that’s why I am. In April she was on comfort care dying in a hospital. I sat next to her and played this, the ending to the 2010, 2012, and 2014 World Series, timmys no no’s, Barry bonds records, and countless other highlights. I still think of her when I watch these. She loved blanco and was so happy when he made that catch deep in the alley. Thank you giants
I remember that pitch at 4:47 so well and it was very close!!! As a Giants fan along with my dad watching this game live on television, this was one of the best Giants games I have ever seen. 2010 WS game 5 and 2014 WS game 7 come to mind.
Arias doesn’t get nearly enough credit for that final throw. That wasn't an easy short hop and that toss across the diamond that had to be perfect... and it was.
I was at this game, the energy after and during the game was insane. I Have only been to a couple giants games, so I was extremely grateful I was able to experience something like this. Just incredible.
Matt Cain is an enigma. Here he is pitching a perfect game and absolutely wracking of the K's by just throwing relatively pedestrian fastballs right by big league hitters, both right and left handed. He trusts his stuff, he hits his spots, and he is unhittable. Amazing.
Just the best commentators in the business. Calling every play for a dynasty worth of play. Giants baseball is something other ball fans cannot understand. It’s on a different level, entirely.
I remember watching this game...was closing out our bartender at El Burro in Campbell....had the doors closed, some employees, and a few people at the bar still....it was pure enjoyment watching this unfold. Always told people I talked to that Cain was underrated...for some reason the Giants could never score a run when he pitched...he lost a lot of 1 run games. Got his jersey and rock it every once in awhile.
I took an extra course during the summer of 2012 while attending JMU. One night, while studying, I took a break and saw that this game happened to be on tv in the lobby. I’ll never forget how nervous I was watching those final three outs. Go Giants!!
It’s an unpopular opinion, but Cain has always been my favorite Giants pitcher. Even when things were dicey, he always had an aire of calm. Practically a perfect general on the mound. Nothing fancy, but efficient. On THIS day, everyone stood up to appreciate that. Reminds me why I love Giant baseball.
Sheesh I remember watching this. My heart was pounding from about the 5th inning on lol. I’m a die hard Giants fan and man do I miss this team. Very disappointed where we are at now and we need to rebuild a new bad ass lineup.
My friend was living/working in SF during this time. Was originally scheduled to attend this game only to bail last minute to see "The amazing racist" ari schaffir. He wakes up everyday depressed.
