Pretty dumb of XM to take down the original video over copyright BS. Companies need to know it just makes people like them less. They could have just put some XM ads or watermarks on it or something.
Daryl knew what he was getting into accepting an invitation to Howard Stern. Stern can get goofy AND serious within minutes. I doubt Hall was offended. Stern does this all the time. He can ask awkward and also enlightening questions. That's what makes him so popular.
His interviews are NOTHING like this now. He said he cringes at how he used to interviews guests and is now considered one of the best interviewers in the world.
I always find it paradoxical people use "adult" as a "positive" synonym, because all the things we scorn at children for doing is prevalent if not integral in adulthood.
How could he not? John Oates was a great rock, R&B, and soul guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Without Oates, there would have been no Hall & Oates.
Y'all have too much class for this. Howard Stern is a dick. And sadly, that is his brand and he is paid well to be abrasive. He was actually quite reserved here, but still repugnant.
Stern is such a dick. He doesn't need some of these questions. That's why so many thinks he's an ass. He can't just take a great musician and stay on the music topic. I don't give a shit if what he and John may have done 20 years ago with some women. Let's hear about creating great music. How it was done. Howard has done well being a horse's ass.
A huge mistake this time, Howard. Great way to ruin a potential interesting interview. Darryl deserves an award for not walking out over your 6th grade banter.
Critics are usually (not all though) talentless/rude/ego driven. Learn at an early age, to attack those with character/skills/integrity to get a few laughs from the equally inept. If highly successful, become shock jocks/lightning rod wits that make millions: by yes, tearing down people that have practiced /honed skills/made their mark on society. In the old days, the big mouth was called out. At the least, was publicly embarrassed/at best took a thrashing in the school yard after classes ended for the day. End of a possible, BRILLIANT career.
I had forgotten about that great song! I haven't even heard the name mentioned in years. I just read your comment, and instantly "she's gone" is playing in my head on a loop. Funny how that works... Thank you!
Someone must have reached into the depths of the very bowels of Hell to find the repugnant, filthy-mouthed, filthy-minded Howard Stern. My entire central nervous system nearly shuts down knowing he was actually given a platform & has made a career out of spewing his particularly putrid brand of vile disgusting filth.
Stern is completely bawdy rude and an ingrate, however the case may be Daryl was so composed, real and down to earth. I had the privilege of meeting Hall & Oats and I gotta tell ya these guys are Top Shelf! ❤️ You Guys!
Daryl is a class act. Hall and Oates' music is timeless... I am so fortunate to have grown up with their music in constant rotation. It never gets old hearing their music ...the greatest duo of all-time!
Sterns just a crap- stirring nobody. Always just trying to create a problem where none exists. Why does anyone even go on this show? The man has no class. Most of his guests don’t Stern. He is a total bottom feeder. This is JR. High level journalism. “ You guys gay?” You guys share a girl?” Did you ever blah blah blah... if Stern were the last Talk show host on earth I wouldn’t listen to him.
@@davidhardy2583 I have hated Stern since i was child and Magic Johnson had him on his TV show and he told Magic that he got AIDS the fun way. I was only 10 and even I knew that was a fucked up comment to make. I remember seeing Magic trying to hide that he was seething and I was hoping he's pick him up and break him over his knee.
@@davidhardy2583 Totally agree. Since I first heard of the guy in the early 90's and realized what kind of person he is, I've always said, "I don't like Howard Stern and if *you* do, I probably won't like you either."
He gets taken both ways. You either like him or can't stand him but he made his fortune with that mouth and the controversy he created throughout his career in radio.
I’m so surprised Daryl put up with all these shit personal questions, but then again Daryl is such a gentleman he answered each one respectfully and brilliantly, great artist’s 👍👌❤️
No shit. I'd give anything if someone with class like Daryl would simply say Something like, "look Howard, I know this is your show and I get this is your thing, but I've been patient, and put up with these childish questions/insults long enough, it's time for us to leave" and walk right the fuk out. Howard's nonsense is beyond tired
Daryl Hall class act!! He responded with humor, respect, truth and did not give into the Stern “stirring the pot”! Most of us don’t care about all this … we are following and interested in the incredible music created by these two musical geniuses, Hall and Oates.
Whether Stern realizes it or not, by trying to demean both Hall and Oates, he does nothing but demean himself. Where is his self awareness? He might want to try looking at himself in the mirror some day.
Daryl and John Oates ruled the airwaves in the 80s. Fantastic song writing. Out Of Touch from 84 was my introduction to them when i was ten. I remember buying Big Bam Boom from tower records in Hollywood On sunset. Fantastic album👍
@@KingKumari There's absolutely nothing underrated about Hall & Oates. They're the biggest duo in rock history. You need to look up the definition of underrated.
Stern pushes too hard honestly, they have been releasing albums since the early 70’s. They hardly hate each other hahaha and they’re both very comfortable with wealth so they hardly put up with each other for money
Don’t know why Daryl didn’t walk off or get angry. He shows what a nice person he is. Can’t say enough. Watching reruns of “Daryl’s House.” He always wanted the guest to be heard and seen more than himself. His voice gets better with age and so much emotion in his songs is intoxicating.❤ (Mrs. Jones, Wait)
well from what i heard, Smokey didn't want to do that song. I would imagine someone like him and a song like that, sparks emotions he may not always want to deal with - an ex wife, lover or whatever. So it could of been personal or maybe something to do with not hitting notes like he once did but once he saw how soulful and passionate Daryl was, he not only did it but enjoyed it. I don't pretend to know why he didn't want to do it at first( just speculating) but it was great. I will watch the one w Pat Monahan. Thanks @@cmusic05
The very best and the absolute worst that ‘murica has to offer. I can imagine Mr Hall scouring himself thoroughly in a steaming shower after putting up so politely with this rot. What on earth was this !? An interview in a porn studio ?
Howard asked about 20 tough and embarrassing questions and Daryl Hall gave the most friendly answers to all of them. Always impressed how people can speak without offending. Definitely a great ability.
Daryl: "I love this guy, we've worked together most of our lives and achieved all our success together. We have our own lives now with the money we made, but when we do reconnect it's easy and instant." Howard: "But don't you still hate him? If you really loved him you'd live together with him. So you must hate him."
Some people know just how much time they can or need to spend together to keep the relationship - any kind of relationship, whether friends, lovers, bandmates, business partners, siblings or parent:child, etc - running smoothly. It sounds like they have that figured out.
@J Wil I agree, Daryl is definitely the better singer of the two. Having said that, John Oates does have a very good voice himself. I actually like a lot of the sings he takes lead on, particularly their early stuff. And their voices sound great together.
@@jonthomas8569 Both of them make Hall and Oates what they became by God's blessings Some great music and hits Good friend's with respect for each gifts
@@estelleschneider9033 yes! I really liked how quickly Daryl moved to point out John's contributions. Was it a perfect 50-50 split? Probably not, and so what? I doubt they would've stayed together all these years if John Oates wasn't bringing his own considerable talents to the table. He doesn't get nearly enough recognition for his role in the group, so kudos to Daryl for always backing him up.
Howard Stern can be so jerkish. They are equally talented. Talking to someone everyday doesn’t define camaraderie. They have been friends since 17 therefore they can easily not talk and always pick up where they left off. I enjoy their music. I was a DJ for 15 years and always played them on our “ urban station.” Every time they come to Minnesota, I go to their concert. I think they should do a remake of duets album with soul singers Angela Winbush, Jaguar Wright, Fantasia. It would be awesome!
Stern doesn’t understand the gift of childhood friendships that last to adulthood. Stern probably doesn’t have any true friends as he is just vulgar and obnoxious.
Brilliant stick-handling by Hall! He rolled with the Stern punches. I’ve tried hard to look for endearing qualities in Stern over the years. He pushes over boundary lines with little regard for the shock waves it does cause. I think he’s funny, but the lack of tact goes too far.
Daryl Hall is one of the better live singers I ever saw in my life. And that includes Jon Anderson, Todd Rundgren, Sting, etc. Seems like a really cool dude also, he's a total music lover which comes through in the Daryl's House show.
I believe the way that John and Daryl have their friendship sort of "set up" for lack of a better descriptive, is very smart and healthy. Think about it. These two guys have known each other since they we're around seventeen years old. They have been very successful and have had to tour excessively to assure that they'd stay relevant in an industry that loves you one day then the next it's as if, who are you? Kind of mentality. So consider that these two guys are individuals with separate interest separate taste separate ideologies etc. I'm sure they have many in common of course other wise the success they have would not be so monumental. Yet since they realize they each have their own lives outside of the commodity known as "Hall & Oates" they, realizing this assure themselves of engaging in their own lives and when it's called for come back together and perform as we the public know them, a duo. I have seen many instances of either of them on stage doing their solo thing and also jamming with other artist. It's very smart I think. They pursue interest outside of their duo and also they spend generous amounts of time away from one another which is why I believe their relationship has been what apparently seems healthy. You never hear of scandals between these two throughout all the many years they've been together. So it's a smart thing overall how they approach their friendship/work. I believe when you give time away from one another you avoid many spats that can and do arise simply because your the one that's just there to receive the brunt of it. How many fallouts have occurred in famous bands due to just burn out? This is smart and healthy the way they've handled their relationship.
A couple of my close friends worked for Daryl several years ago, and I know a couple of his band members and crew. All of them say Daryl and John are completely different people but get along very well. One of my friends who worked for them off and on for more than 20 years says he's never heard them argue. He says they really are like brothers, that they're different people with different lives, but they work together musically very well, support each other's outside interests, and would pretty much do anything for each other.
Right on, I agree. Time from each other gives th m time to breath and time to create. When they come together they can colaberate on what works. They always renew there friendship and music. There true brothers in all ways.
I never understand why people think musical or other types of famous partnerships have to be best friends as well. I heard one half of another famous duo complain about this as well. He described his relationship with his partner as a great working relationship, like a co-worker you get along well with at work, and you know you work well together, but you don't really hang out with outside of the office. Doesn't mean you dislike each other, it just means you are good work partners who have your own lives outside of the working relationship.
True there a difference between a co-worker and a friend hell you have family members that don't get along being around someone doesn't automatically make you friends its how you related to one another that determines if you're friends or not
Unfortunately I’ve known people like Stern and his side kick. They get their jollies out of taking others down, but sometimes they meet someone above board who knows exactly what they are doing and will not engage in their folly. Hall has the respect of not just his fans but of other musicians who are in his league. Those other two are left with empty hands.
Thank you, Darryl Hall. I always wanted to hear a super famous musician who was called gay, but isn't, say why would they say that when I'm straight, but it was an insult to gay people to make a big deal about it! YOU ROCK, SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5 min of trying to bait Darryl to respond in a hostile manner. But he's a class act and kept his kool and dignity responding in a quick fire honest manner with a touch of of humour. Of course they're not gonna hang out everyday!! They've known each other since 17. They know each other intrinsically. And they have their own lives & families.
Two of the best songwriters of all time IMHO. In their prime (80s) they were up there with Men at Work's Colin Hay, Phil Collins, Richard Marx, and Brian Wilson (not an exhaustive list BTW).
They released a lot of great music. Sara Smile is probably my favorite song by them, because its not so bubble gum, but bittersweet and food for the soul. I would love to hear more songs that are similar to Sara Smile. I understand Daryl is the one who wrote it.
Some people (myself included) just don't tend to immerse themselves in peoples lives on a constant basis. For many people irregular catch ups are just as meaningful and no less friendly.
And yet he uses the 'F' word - truly insulting to LGBT and he knows it. 3:21 Who is HE to talk about what is or isn't disrespectful to a culture he seems to dislike being associated with? I change the station now when he comes on.
This is a perfect example of why I can’t stand Howard Stern. His idea of “entertainment” and “conversation” is to try and draw out some bratty childish drama.
Daryl. I'm impressed by your talent and honesty. Love to hear you in your own studio. Live from Daryl's house in incredible. I used to play guitar. Had a stroke now I don't. . Keep rocking sir!
Most siblings aren't friends...I got one and I talk to his wife more than him! It's not black and white...my brother and I get along and have had some great times. Media is always after the scoop!
Stern is a circus act. Nothing more. I stopped watching this as soon as I heard Daryl answer the first question. Who cares what Stern has to say or thinks? He's irrelevant.
Darrell Hall's a legend and deserves more respect then these stupid perverted questions that he was getting from Stern. Howard trying to create his on narrative with his obnoxious imagination.
I lost all respect for Howard Stern when he claimed that the unvaccinated were the problem. He should apologize to all the people who supported him for decades!!!
When you are very close to another individual who you care about deeply you don’t need to call each other every dam day. I am not friends with my brother because brothers should not be friends. Halls and Oates are like bothers because that’s how it works. They do respect each other dearly.
You know..all these years gone by and most of us really thought Hall and Oates were gay because of Media reports. Public opinion back then was much different than now. Please no need to hate on me for saying this but after seeing this video here on You Tube I am glad to know they didn't / are not in alternative lifestyles. Not bashing anyone who may be.I just don't go that way and don't think it's right.(Artistic talent notwithstanding)
