The Riesengebirgslied (Song of the Giant Mountains) was composed by the two Sudeten Germans Othmar Fiebiger (lyrics) and Vinzenz Hampel (melody).
Fiebiger wrote the first verse in 1911 during a stay in the Peterbaude in the Bohemian part of the Giant Mountains. He wrote the remaining stanzas until 1914. In Silesia, the song became very popular after it spread rapidly through printing on postcards.
In the version uploaded here, these two stanzas are missing:
I've felt good and bad,
I've sung and laughed,
but in some anxious hours
my heart has throbbed in silence.
And after years and hours
I returned to my parents' house.
I couldn't stand it any longer because of my longing
among strangers.
And when I have to be buried one day,
you may do your will,
only one thing, yes, one thing,
let me rest in my homeland.
Will God then ask me
for the certificate of my home,
I'll go proudly and freely and joyfully
into the kingdom of heaven.
