"Und in dem Schneegebirge" (And in the Snow Mountains) is a Silesian folk song whose origins go back to the 16th century. The version of the lyrics known today was published in 1842 by Hoffmann von Fallersleben in his collection of songs "Schlesische Volkslieder und Melodien" (Silesian Folk Songs and Melodies). The little river sung about is the March (Morava), which springs from the Glatzer Schneegebirge, flows through Bohemia as well as Moravia and finally flows into the Austrian Danube.
The performers of this version have adapted the text somewhat and omitted two stanzas.
The little fountain that flows over there,
you should always drink from it;
He who has a sweetheart,
you should always wave to her.
I waved my eyes at you,
I stepped on your foot -
Oh, like a heavy uprootig,
when one must part.

In the thumbnail, you can see the Schweizerei on the Glatzer Schneeberg.
The video material is quite old, as you can easily see. It comes from a silent film of 1926, simply called "Die Grafschaft Glatz" (The County of Glatz), which was produced by the German Reichsbahn and the Deutscher Landwirtschaftsfilm (German Agricultural Film). Since old footage of the Schneegebirge is very rare, I decided to present the entire county of Glatz, which lies at the foot of the Glatzer Schneegebirge.
