Thank you , this is the most honest review of this piece of garbage from Nextbase .. I've used the Next Base 402G for years and it performed in day / night light beautifully every detail .. all good things come to an end , it started playing up, so I thought I buy another nextbase .. big mistake buying this 522GW .. it's a piece of expensive garbage ... no detail / defuse picture in certain lights , heaven alone knows how it performs at night ...
@@kuky20061 Yes for some reason the 522 zooms in if you use 1080p 60fps but doesn't it you use 1080p 30fps. Don't know why it does this, my 612 4K doesn't change zoom if you have it on 1080p, 1440 or 4k it stays at 150.
@@kuky20061 Not on the 522 it isn't, for some reason 1080p 60fps is very poor on my 522, it's more like 720p quality that combined with the dodgy zoom on that setting makes it shocking.
What is like for recording vehicle registration plates at night on un light roads as I was recently involved in a near head on collision my nextbase duo had failed to pick up the car plate all I got due to the reflection from my window screen as a Just a plane white plate. I see this has enchanted night vision so I am looking to upgrade to this model

I’m setting up this same dash cam. When unplugged it doesn’t want to stay powered on for me like in your review. Did you experience that problem at all?
I believe that the camera sees the external power as the signal to turn on and off with the vehicle so that it doesn’t run out of battery while parked. If you turn it on without being connected to a charge cable it should stay on, alternatively you could hard wire it into a constant power source for the car, though this could run the cars battery down. If you’re just wanting it to stay on for parking mode then there’s an option in settings that should work for that.
Is it normal for both cameras to not show the correct distances for vehicles? In both the front and rear views the cars seem so far away but in real life I know they are closer. Also how can I stop the rear camera mirroring? Thanks
Most dashcam footage will make things look further away due to the wide angle lens, plus a higher view point helps see things you don’t normally. As for the mirrored rear camera, there’s a setting in the MyNextbase phone app to change between mirrored and not. It should also be possible through the onscreen settings on the 522 model.
Got this installed in car yesterday, but having problem with charging. I changed it for 2 hours the battery died. I charged it overnight and same thing. Any advice on what usb plug I should be using?
