Learn how to say date in Korean including year, month and day :) You need to know the Korean number system first, though! In dates, we use sino numbers, so this will feel less difficult for you.

It’s easy to learn the months since they don’t have names but just numbers, but the problem is after June I get all months messed up and I’ve no idea what number they are. So when I have to translate it I have to start counting the months out loud to figure out what number they are

So is it, necessary to include (il) right after the number of day? Cause (il) one of your tutorial in Sino numbers is actually 1. Shouldn't we use the sino number name for 2?(ee) 3(sam) and so forth? If the number of day or date is actually also written in sino number itself.

Hi mam annyeong
@MaimiZhang
@MaimiZhang 3 года назад
In English, there are 3 ways. Those 2 ways are confusing though because we use dd/mm/yyyy, mm/dd/yyyy and yyyy/mm/dd. Those 2 dd/mm/yyyy and mm/dd/yyyy can easily be determined when one exceeds 12 eg. 1/13/1989 or 13/5/2003. I work as encoder for several years now and I am being confused when someone put for example 3/8/1995 on their birthday since there is no specific format of date in the paper. It’s cool that Korean put a 년 on year, 월 on month and 일 for day of the month when writing the date. For me as data encoder, it’s much easier for me to determine which is the day and the month, eg. 2000년 12월 11일. Unlike in English when I encounter this date [unless it indicates on the form that the date format is (mm/dd/yyyy) or (dd/mm/yyyy)]: 12/11/2000. Since there are 2 formats that can fit that date, it’s either December 11 or November 12. 😁
@Megalodon4
@Megalodon4 Год назад
In russian, we are also used to write any date in dd/mm/yyyy.

okay i have a huge question and i hope you understand it and i know im like 6 or 7 months late from this video but my question is when you say "today is tuesday" "오늘은 화요일이야", the ending is different from "오늘은 수요일입니다" (today is wednesday), and is also different from saying "today is saturday" 오늘은 토요일이다. Now my question is why are there endings different?
@-_--mk6vz
@-_--mk6vz 3 года назад
are you using a translator? if you are, sometimes they can be inaccurate. but the endings are different because korean has 7 speech levels with different levels of politeness/formality and the ending 니 다 is less formal than ending 이야. you would usually use 니 다 when talking to someone younger than you or same age or a friend. 이야 would preferrably not used because it is less formal than other levels but instead, you'd use 아/어 요 to talk to someone older or in formal setting. It might sound complicated but english speakers use different levels of speech without knowing it. I hope this helps you understand.

She thinks it's EASY for us to learn Korean? I had to learn all the sounds first and still can't say most of them. But I don't understand why Duo is doing Korean the way they are. It's not right, according to Miss Vicky and I trust a native of the language more than a computer. Duo doesn't tell you there are consonants and vowels in the Korean language. I have no idea what they're doing, which is why I needed to come here.
@KoreanwithMissVicky
@KoreanwithMissVicky 4 года назад
Yes I completely understand your struggle, Vicki! I just meant that when it comes to months it's a lot simpler than English. And thank you for trusting my lessons :) I'll always try my best. It's kinda understandable that computerized apps like Duo can't deliver certain linguistic knowledge effectively because Korean and English are vastly different. Even for me it's not easy to teach. Hopefully they'll improve with time though.
