Quick demonstration of how to check and see if your power brake booster is functioning properly. Test can be done with the booster on the car also. This test works for any year or model of brake booster. Signs of a bad brake booster is a hard brake pedal that does not stop your car very well.

Thank you for doing this. I was hoping to find someone that tested the booster with a vacuum gauge, since to me only this ways shows right up front, that it accepts, and holds whatever is applied. Thanks!

Do you recommending rebuild or junkyard one? Also I suppose I can test my booster without removing it by just using the handheld pump and disconnecting the vacuum line to the intake, right?

My brake pedal feels soft, but doesn't go to the floor. More like a lack of braking power. My front pads are nearly new. Would this likely point towards my Master?

What about the in-between situation, where you can pump down a vacuum with the hand held pump, but it starts to slowly bleed down, and the vacuum is completely gone after 15 minutes?

Its still bad because its still leaking. Youll need to replace it. If could also check the check valve and the seal. That could also be causing that slow leakage.

What would I do if my booster was changed but has very sensitive brakes? I was told there's a pinion that needs to be adjusted to correct for this. Thanks

There are two adjustments. One is at the top of the pedal assembly, and the other is between the break booster and master cylinder.
