Davao City - Benefits of Undergrounding Power and Telephone Wires

Davao City has put their cables underground - did you know this?
The streets look much tidier with the wires hidden underground.
It also protects the wires from the sun, rain and heavy winds, as well as vehicular accidents, or even malicious acts.
This results in reduced maintenance costs and an overall longer life expectancy of the systems.

Definitely leagues better than what we have here in Manila. There's just no sugarcoating it. I've only been to Davao once and I never felt so jealous of their quality of life improvements. The fact that we didn't encounter any homeless person in our extended stay was a mystery to me. Even in a decade, Manila will be forever lagging behind.

Nah... Rules and regulations are implemented and it's there as law itself but the discipline of both enforcers and constituents really makes a big difference. @@tommydaniels1805 Corruption is at the heart of every public official and even down right on enforcer because it is the norm here in Manila. I dare say everyone because every public official is guilty of such even the smallest things. Bypassing the law is rampant even if you're a normal citizen, you'll be surprised how easily law can be undermined by the one who holds power even though in a small degree. If you're a law abiding citizen here in Manila, you hold no power. That's the truth and you can see it just like that. Law and monetary budget is here for the people but the reality it's only for the one holding it first. It will be given by the nation like a tub of water and when it comes down to normal citizens like us, a drop will only reach.

Davao is eyeing to go underground wires in the Central Areas in the next few years. Obviously, the City can't do it in one time big time because it can bring inconvenience to people, from digging trenches to the removal of posts, and it can cause traffic. Another is it's too expensive to build underground facilities, but the City invested in it. Regarding parks. The City is building more parks! Especially those idle lots (either City owned or Donated ones, are currently building it to provide more open and public spaces for the Davaoenos. The coastal road, the Davao River Esplanade, and the ongoing Bus Transportation System will eventually replace all old and antiquated jeepneys. Davao in 5-10 years will be more livable. Thanks to the steady and responsive City leadership and to the cooperation of all Davaoenos.

Davao is really a good example of what happens when people obey and respect the law. Although I commend the officials for their effort, the one that needs bigger commendations would be the Davaoenos. Like, if they've complained and go against anything new, in which they can, then the Davao we see today would've never existed. Davao City seems underrated. Not many knew about it. Whenever someone hears the word 'Philippines,' their minds would automatically think Manila or Cebu, something like that. It looks much tidier now compared to before. Davao is pretty organized. You don't have to worry with encountering bad drivers (I guess there's lesser of them now) or pickpocketers or addicts just loitering around the streets. They can just stay with the overhead line installations and all they have to do is rationalize the overhead lines and get rid of those that are not used anymore and follow elcetrical codes. If you think about it, all the posts need to have is just the 3 phases and an overhead ground wire for the high tensions wire and the two or three lines for the low voltage (220v). And those telecoms and fiber optics should be replaced with trunklines and not single lines - this is just the telecom companies being lazy and not following the codes.

We've had underground everything (including trains) for a very long time (electricity over 100 yrs) Water damage even in flooding areas has never been an issue. Repair and replacement is easy because of manholes. Telephones were forever being cut off by storms and vehicles crashing into poles before they went underground in the late 20th century. Earthquakes have less effect on underground cables than cables on poles and the sides of buildings.

Great to see people talk abot this - I also am disgusted by overhead cabling. We still have it in many older areas of Sydney Australia, such an eyesore and looks like the area is more primitive and the suburb 'gerry rigged'. I grew up in a nice area with none of this and it hurts the eyes and soul to see it. Hopefully this trend continues.

Hello, G.A., I am from Davao and yes it is actually good here but could you also do some videos here where there are still things that needs to be done (i.e. uneven roads, road repairs that are not done properly, and the heavy traffic and difficult commute hours during rush hours in the evening). I am not suggesting these to do backlash on the credibility of the progress here in Davao and I am actually proud of those but there are still lots of issues in infrastructures here especially in terms of road conditions and I believe you're platform will help the city see more and serve the people of Davao and our visitors better. Thanks G.A. Ps. If you would want to see what i meant of poor road conditions, drive or ride around the vicinity of Sasa, Panacan, Tibungco areas (near-northbound from airport) and Matina and Maa traffics (going southbound)

Meron talagang mga pinoy na ina undermine ang achievement ng Davao... kesho hindi daw lahat ng Davao wireless. Well off course if these people can just use their head with logic for a second, it takes more than a year just to complete a single phase of putting the wires underground.... it needs to undergo complicated engineering procedures to accomplish everything... since its already phase 2 excluding the pilot projects last 2016... the entire phases under the city ordinance will be completed by 2029 at more than 6 kms of wireless streets. So, if ever Metro Manila or other places in the Philippines will start putting their wires underground this 2023.... parang aabotan kayo ng 2040 and beyond just to bury few kilometers of wires.... meanwhile Davao City already has a huge headstart and leaving other cities in the dust....

Hahaha. I do praise Davao's people and the local government here, but that is also both the reason why it works in Davao and why it wont work here in Luzon, in particular Manila and its greater areas. Lets be honest. Each district of Manila will have a field day of putting blame on the national government for not doing something like this in Manila, but these same people will also raise an issue if said improvements gave them even a little bit of inconvenience. "Educated" people would be the first to say something about it, most specially if they don't like the government officials proposing it even if it can benefit everyone. On the other hand, if the said officials are who they like and think as "Educated" and has "Merit", even if there's clear evidence that an idea or what they say is, to be blunt - idiotic, they will defend said person and will insist on "Educating" other people just to prove their point, even if they're wrong. Not to say this scenario can't go the other way, but in general, the issue here is with the people in Manila. In order to do this kind of project, people in Manila and it's surroundings need to cooperate - which is a monumental task in itself. If Manila's population is decrease by half, including all its surroundings, then there's a possibility it will work for Manila, provided the people remaining observe the law and willing to make willing to make sacrifices. Thene there's also the need to have actual competent civil workers and leaders and most of all competent Local Government officials to handle such projects. Since the National Government can provide the support but the local government handles everything from planing to execution. So yeah, this is an almost an impossible task to do in manila given the many factors the region has.

@shinryuzero
@shinryuzero Год назад
@@darkboard5556 I'm just saying the truth though. Manila could be a live version of Gotham City. But I'm not saying that manila is the most depressing city in the world - on contrary it's not and there are other cities more depressing and actually more unruly and unsafe in the world. Filipinos, most specially those who are thinking they're the "Educated" elite and doesn't give a real dime about us local masses think that our problems are the worst in the world and tend to blame everything they see to someone. I hate to say this but the western type of thinking and idolization of western culture tend to make such mindsets. It's like an infestation of "Karens/Kens/Kevins/Kyles", although to be honest it's much less compared in the US. But still, Manila is fucked. Davao has less western influence in it thus the discipline and patience of the people there are much high. Bonus is that they do have competent leaders there, that are actually disciplinarians as well. Compared that to Manila who is a cesspool of western ideology, with all the so called higher education - It doesn't gave the same results as a province like Davao. Says a LOT about one should actually perceive who are the actual civilized and "Educated" people are.
