In this video I visit a few establishments in Davao, the most populous city in Mindanao, Philippines. The William gastropub, recently opened up in Rizal Street. Hucklebery Southern Kitchen & Bar was listed in Philippine Tatler's Best Restaurant's 2016-2019. Glasshouse Coffee is a speciality coffee house in the same grounds as the Huckleberry.
According to the 2020 census, Davao has a population of 1,776,949 people. It is geographically situated in the province of Davao del Sur and grouped under the province by the Philippine Statistics Authority, but the city is governed and administered independently from it. The city is divided into three congressional districts, which are subdivided into 11 administrative districts with a total of 182 barangays.
Davao City is the center of Metro Davao, the second most populous metropolitan area in the Philippines. The city serves as the main trade, commerce, and industry hub of Mindanao, and the regional center of Davao Region. Davao is home to Mount Apo, the highest mountain in the Philippines. The city is also nicknamed the "Durian Capital of the Philippines".
I love cities. I walk each day for hours pounding the streets. I find much more life to see on the streets than a hike up a mountainside. Even if I’m not taking photographs or shooting video I still like the energy and interest that a city provides.
Fortunately on arriving in Mindanao I wasn't asked for proof of vaccination. From there I took a bus to Cagayan De Oro where I spent a week before heading south to Davao.
The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.
