@@Lee-nh5bb I was looking for Rocket Records, delivering something. I knocked on nearest number to them and Dave opened the door. He was very charming and funny, and gave me a message for them along the lines of “put a bloody number on your place!!” He was exactly how you’d hope he would be. Not all funny men are funny, just good at delivering a script… Ronnie Barker springs to mind in that category…
@@JamesThomas-zl9er Thank you so much for sharing your unexpected meeting with Dave! What a wonderful experience! Would that have been in Kensington? Can you remember what year it was?
He was part of my childhood, even now when I watch these clips, I still find them so funny, and it takes a lot to make me laugh, but the late great Dave Allen can.
No one left like him. Well dressed, so likeable and positively genius use of the language. We need someone like him again. Now all you hear is profanity, name calling and put downs. Love the man.
Dave Allen is one of Ireland's finest and funniest comedians!!! I've enjoyed his wit and personality since the 70's. He has poignant humor taken from real life that we all can relate to!!! I'll bet that if we're honest, we have all at least thought some of the (colorful) language that he uses. BTW - FYI (at least in the state that I live in) flashing your headlights at another motorist (in either direction) is not just a traffic offense, it is a misdemeanor (a crime)!!! I never knew that before.
I've just rediscovered Dave Allen, I was too young to fully appreciate him when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s but now I think he's an absolute genius, very clever and very funny. Modern comedians please take note!
My Dad first showed me Dave Allen when I was about nine, I think, and I will never forget sitting and p i s s i n g myself laughing watching this one in particular. We still reference it today XD Edit: I have also just realised this is where my love for the word bastard originates. The word alone makes me laugh, and I've always wondered why lol
In the mid-late 70's Dave Allen was at saturday TV shows in Norway. Remember i was waiting all week for next saturday to com. At that time he always sat in HIS chair, zippin HIS Whisky, and Kept his Face fantstic serious. I have ben lokking for him for meny years, cause i could not remember HIS name from mye vert young age. One night I woke up with HIS name in my head, Ine week befare he past away. I watched all i could find, feeling like a Child Another Genious had to rest in peac, and now God sits and laughs HIS eyey out, I'm sure og it
The word "genius" is overused. But Dave Allen was one. Every modern comedian (except perhaps Peter Kaye) could do to watch and learn their craft from him.
+John King Yes, I think he is. If he'd only done Phoenix Nights, he have been a great. He's so far the funniest comedian around now that Billy Connolly is no longer active, I'd rank him alongside Dave Allen (and Billy Connolly and Tommy Cooper).
Man this guy was a great comedian. After watching a couple of George Carlin videos I get recommended his videos and I'm hooked just like the other dead comedian -_- . Hopefully, great comedians who are still alive today will make more videos.
An anecdote : my dear departed father had a thing about ferry boats (between France and England) - he wanted to drive on first and drive off first. For once he got a first place and was as happy a prince. What he didn't notice was that there was deep fog arriving at Dover. Off we went in first place with all the cars following. What my dad didn't realize was that he was driving up a one-way street and of course all the cars were following. So what started as a win, ended up as a "fight" between my mum and dad, on top of which we were all dying for a fish and chips - lol
I Love Dave Allen, have done since being a child :)) But this clip PERFECTLY sums up why I enjoy NOT BEING ABLE TO DRIVE!! It’s a personal choice really, but fuck me...why would you want that level of stress in your life? It’s hard enough being a pedestrian..,and having to navigante all the thick bastards who occupy the pavements let alone the roads! Always a great watch...☺️ wot a comedian!!
Normally ranting is a huge turn off for me but Dave has it down to an artform that I can handle when I'm in the mood......a very funny guy....RIP Dave....still making me laugh after you're hopefully in a much better place.
I remember watching this series in my room on Thursday nights. Hoping my parents wouldn’t hear what I was watching….I was 10 years old. You could say i appreciated great comedy at a young age.
The really funny thing is that he has a cultured English accent until her shouts and becomes Irish in a second. I have many friends that you can not tell where they were born until they are angry :-)
+Shane Bairstow ha ha.. i hate comedians who swear like the f word in every sentence. But i dont mind DAVE ALLEN when he says ..'piss off or shit'' funny coming from him...
+Shane Bairstow I am the same. I was born in Derry in Northern Ireland, but every one says I do not have a Derry accent at all. My brother says I have a RP accent. But yes, when I get angry, a little bit of Derry comes through my voice. Dave was born in Dublin, but he spent most of his life in England, which I am sure affected his accent, as he lived among people with English accents.
someone asked Noel Gallagher why he uses the F word so much. He said they all swear even his mother. His mother was the queen of swearers. Ha ha so funny. I can see why too....keeping those two in check ..noel and his brother liam:)
I went driving today - down a dual carriageway, across a hellish roundabout and it took me five hours to get over it. But something tells me that Mr Allen would be an ANGRY driver - full of road rage lol.
DAVE I WAS A DRIVER FOR YEARS AND EVERTHING YOU SAID ABOUT LETTING PEOPLE IN A QUE WAS RIGHT IT IS BLOODY ANOYING BUT WE ALL DO IT BECAUSE WE ARE ENGLISH HA HA
Wasn't Dave the one who discribed Junk Mail as Cow Shit popping through the Letter Box , I have used that analogy for years when approached or cornered by people who talk Bull. Thanks Dave .
If driving is as stressful as Dave makes out is it any wonder trains are becoming more popular? Over the last 10 years I've averaged only 6,000 per year. Any long journeys I simply take the train. Far less stressful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Until the train is delayed and your sitting going "shit, I'm going to be late, should I change trains or sit here? If change trains I'll lose my seat, that's what those other bastards will do........", etc, etc!
OK. I have had bad days where trains have been delayed or cancelled. Nothing is ever gonna be perfect. Having said that every train I used last Saturday [Leeds-York-Scarborough-Bridlington-Hull-Goole-Leeds] was spot on time and I enjoyed the day very much; even the weather played ball!
back in the eighties i listened to a scketch about a mole catcher by Dave Allen .Unfortunately I have not been able to recover this sketch this was hilariousHopefully somebody can help me out.
standing at zebra crossings is a Spanish trait, they stand at the crossing and you stop and they carry on doing whatever it is they are doing. Mind you they won't last 5 mins in the uk.
No matter what part of the world every one in a big over population gets this it's just worse depending on population and mind set of it no matter what side of the road we are supposed to be driving on. After working in the road 28 years and driving over 40 years I listen to this and laugh but hope it gets better.
