gestapo in drag,,,perfect example of these Nuns from Ireland teaching in our Catholic primary school in New Zealand back in the 1960s,,,DAVE ALLEN IS A GEM,, an Oscar winning Comedian...period .. .R.I.P..
I remember watching Dave years back and every show was a treat. The man was a comic genius that could always make you laugh. The world became a little bit sadder without his humor to pick us up. I will always fondly remember his humor.
Blimmey as far as comic geniuses go DAVE ALLENS name is Top of the list we still miss and love you Dave 🙏🍀🍀 love and respect to your family cheers Stephen 🍀🍀🍀🍀✌️✌️👍👍
Why haven't more people seen this documentary? Brilliant! I grew up as teen in the 70's in Australia watching Dave Allen. My father loved him, and now at 60 I am loving watching all the 'repeats.' 'Yes Dave....it's a repeat, I know!"
Wow, I have the same words from the UK. I sat up with my Dad in the 70's watching & laughing. He was a great man. And yes, I'm also watching the repeats 🙂
I first noticed Dave Allen in 1969 (when I was 18). It was a quantum leap from the mainstream Morecambe and Wise/Two Ronnies type of humour. Dave Allen was highly instrumental in challenging British standards of acceptability. Then, about 1972, stand up comedians in the UK started becoming more and more cavalier. Subjects that had previously been taboo, were "permissible." The US would have to wait at least 5 years before they followed suit but never quite got there. They focused on observational humour and gratuitous use of profanities. In my opinion, a much lazier type of humour.
I grew up on British series like Dave Allen At Large, Dr. Who, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Benny Hill Show, Fawlty Towers, Top Of The Pops, The Tube. Later Mr. Bean, The Office & Extras. I was lucky as a kid growing up in Canada in the 1970's.Television was different back then, 48% Canadian programs, 47% British programs & 5% American programs. In 2018, it's 90% American (vomit enducing garbage), 9% Canadian & 1% British.
Loved watching Dave Allen with my dad when i was young,my mum hated him because he was always making gags about priests and nuns,so the more she gave out,the more we laughed..poor mum😅😅😅
I had dreams like that about my Grandmother after she died, and she would have all sorts of excuses of where she had been that made sense until I woke up ?
I had no idea he was such a good reporter as well and journalist. Obviously I remember him as a wonderful wonderful comedian. Myself and a girlfriend driving through the West End one night, in London and we looked up. We were just off Trafalgar Square and we saw a sign saying Dave Allen tonight, 8 pm. It was 745. There was a space a single yellow line where you can park I parked, we walked in. We bought two tickets, we laughed solidly for two hours, I can’t recall a single thing he said but my sides were hurting the next morning. God bless him. What a man.
