People often say Rock is dead. There is so much good music being produced out there by artists in the Americana movement. Dave is a shining star in that genre. Checkout Jason Isbell and Tyler Childers.
Damn I have Loved Dave and brother Phil since the Blaster Days. Dave is so Cool great stage presence and Killer Guitar Player. Generally I don’t watch video’s it’s about the music to me but Dave is so good you want to watch and listen.
I would usually agree that I need to hear the music, it's an essential part of life. But your other point about how good a storyteller Dave Alvin is elevates him into a very small group of special artists. I don't know if all his stories are real, and I don't care either. When people pay attention to a story with the same intensity as the music, the whole night's show becomes a unique experience for all involved. I've loved these two brothers for decades now, and your comment does Dave justice in ways most people can't do.
I remember watching that guilty drummer kick out her beat a few years ago in Vancouver, Canada. She, like the rest of the guilty ones, helped Dave deliver the goods. Dave don't need a lot of help, but if he does he might as well get the best. Peace. Out.
Does Dave ever put on a bad show? No evidence that I've seen since The Blasters 80's to all his incarnations. Seen him in Vancouver about 10 times (missed 6 or more). His integrity and fluid joy hits one hard in the ass and make you think and dance and drink beer and well, live through his Big Joe Turner/Johnny Aces persona. Dave is an institution to songwriting and performing. No B.S.
As a huge DA fan, I’d love to say there isn’t such a thing. But one night I saw him do an acoustic solo show at a club in Pittsburgh. He played about an hour. It wasn’t bad, but the vibe just wasn’t happening. You could easily sense his frustration, but he was a total pro. Spoke to him a bit afterwards. He’s always been cool. But this night was frustrating for him. I love Dave’s music. Far as I’m concerned, he’s an American original. He can do no wrong.
You have evidently bought into the revisionist history pal. I have seen the articles from back in the day that corroborates everything this dude just said, including eye witnesses.. He was not demonstrating to a woman that the gun was not loaded as the revised story now claims. He was widely known for the Russian roulette idiocy and for being very haphazard with a loaded firearm around others.
