Spelling should be "Mort Sahl" not Shal...! The great Dave Brubeck - I listened to him by the hour as teenager learning to play jazz. Also -- Joe Morello on drums... the best of the era.

As previously mentioned, 'Bob', this pilot was produced (at The Black Hawk in San Francisco) by Jay Ward as a potential syndicated series- had this been sold as a weekly show, he would have filmed various jazz groups at different night clubs and other performing venues [two per episode: this prototype featured Brubeck and, in the second half of the show, the Modern Jazz Quartet]...

This unaired (and unsold) 1958 pilot was produced by none other than Jay Ward, who, at the time, was also trying to sell a daily five minute cartoon strip, "ROCKY THE FLYING SQUIRREL". Even though this never saw the light of a TV screen, he sold the other idea to General Mills in 1959 as a half-hour series, "ROCKY AND HIS FRIENDS"...performing with Brubeck are the other members of his famous quartet: Paul Desmond, Joe Morello and Eugene Wright.
