Shoutout to the drummer exhibiting the mark of a truly great musician- they can make anybody sound good by feeling the pulse their groove in the moment The drummer is anticipating the tricky spots giving a gentle nudge to keep the groove. So tasteful!
once the audience started clapping he really loosened up and started fleshing out the chords much more. i think he was concentrating way too hard on not making any mistakes before that
Funny thing is in a lot of documentaries or specials on him, when ever he's around a piano he always plays this song. ?uestlove has said before Dave has dedicated himself to only play 'Round Midnight and Misty
That’s okay...I think most non piano players have 1or 2 little things they chose to learn, as a child or teen, and just never got any further. My wife, god bless her, she’s been playing chop sticks for around 45 years, now. Lol.
it also makes a difference when you've practiced the song enough to the point where you don't have to worry about making mistakes, as well as how recently you practiced the song
I love this man! Funny, well spoke, VERY INTELLIGENT and a cool laid back guy. But what I like most about him is that he drums to his own beat....got to love people like that 🥰
Dave is actually really good. not steller or anything but definitely more entertaining than I expected and good enough to carry a tune to completion. I see no reason why he cant come out with a small album or some similar project like that. I would most assuredly give it a listen and I know the world would too.
In 9 years RU-vid will recommend a video where Dave walks on water, and I’ll watch, because he’s a badass! 🙌🏾 Thanks for the likes, you guys are truly great!
He was playing the exact changes also. The Real Book has changes that are considered wrong by many so I don't know where he got these changes from unless he learned it by ear.
@@DIYTFY Get your playa hatin', NO TALENT havin ass out of here !! Im SURE his bank account says DIFFERENT. If you have nothing good to say get off the post then and just STFU !!!
@@fludeball Hes doing the bare minimum, but impressive if he hasn't actively practiced at all. I'm a musician and I dont play piano, but I use one often if I'm learning a song by ear and would struggle to even do what Dave is doing here
@@fludeball it was the drummer who was adjusting to Dave's inconsistent tempo. Dave was the guest here at this jazz gala, odds are the drummer knew what he was doing
@@janetownley Yeah but Dave is a comedian. The fact he learned how to play it at all is amazing! I've played guitar professionally 35 years and to me the Jazz standards are still hard to play!
@@briansalipante2024 I'm a self taught Rock player. Yes I've faked my way through Jazz gigs before but it's tough. Soloing over those changes is VERY challenging and I'm amazed at the Jazz cats who make it look effortless.
