You can keep your hendrixs and Claptons. Dave might not be into 5 minute solos but boy can he play. Subtle as hell in some places full on rock royalty in others. Just love the Kinks.
Jonesy, id like to thank you man, I've had a really tough start to the year, its been a rocky road, but at the end of the day I look forward to listening to Jonesy's jukebox to hear my favourite musicians and discover guys and girls I've never heard of. Now the great Dave Davies meets the great Steve Jones, perfect, thanks a lot man.Paul
Best ever interviews for me . Steve just naturally connects . I idolise the KInks , so this is just friggin great to see , hope to see Ray at some point too , made my day seeing Dave I wish someone in the US would nail it on why the Kinks were banned once and for all. Great stuff again Steve
I'm six in 66 and I'm listening to Luxembourg and singing Sunday afternoon "I gotta big fat mama trying to break me" mama says is that about me , "yes" I say, she says, "just you wait". . . true story Dave/Jonesy.
What a Great Mix! The Legendary Dave Davies with the equally legendary Steve Jones! Let's face it, The Kinks were groundbreaking with the "heavy sound", filled with melody and energy. Call it what you want:- Hard Rock, Punk, or whatever. Music at its best! This has got to be the best channel to catch up with our heroes from yesterday. Another classic interview! Thanks Steve! You're the Man!
I've read alot about him in past two years and many people from his youth into his 20's..30's say he was very sensitive young man polite to others and sympathetic. He also was very curiously hyperactive from childhood onward. Luckily he had his music guitar as an outlet. He devoured books on different spiritualities et al. Any pic of Dave throughout the years if he is not smiling.. his eyes still sparkle.
Yes he does. Cheerful and fun. Dave always was finding new guitar sounds. Tasty leads, but also a very good acoustic rhythm guitar player. Dave’s playing gave the Kinks their quirky character. I liked his high harmony singing. And, of course, Dave’s lead vocals were rocking, but also could be ethereal, as in Living On a Thin Line. The nice kind of man to have a beer with. I enjoyed reading his book. I wish he would play a few numbers with the Kastoff Kinks. Ray originally wrote You Really Got Me on the piano. Look at what Dave did to it.
Yes it is. It can be hard to recover from a stroke. My grandma is very messed up because of one. So seeing this interview with Dave gives me hope that you can recover moreso than I had thought
Keeping up with the Jones' ... Submission is my favorite Pistols song. If I ever get angry I'll put it on LOUD and it never fails to do the trick, fantastic riff Steve. I used to play it in my band too...took a while to decipher the lyrics though in the pre Internet days
I love the way Dave does Tired Of Waiting live. I can always go back to his Rock Bottom recording from the Bottom Line to refresh my memory. I was at Jones Beach for the Steve Jones/Kinks show. It was loud and it was fun. Jonesy was taking it seriously throughout although the yokels in the audience were not. He gave up near the end and allowed some overweight greaseball wearing a Peter Gabriel tee-shirt to sing Anarchy. It was a sufficiently awful performance. Oh the stories that 'singer' must tell.
yes but the mono mixes are different, different reverbs, slaps, used in the stereo, the balance is different as well. I highly reccomned the mono mixes of beatles , A and B the difference of nowhere man and you will see the reverbs are vastly different. Eqs are different. when stereo first came out they were usually done by the tape op in like a day without much overwatch by produces or the band. 2nd to the mono, so bands claim the mono mixes were how they were suppose to sound.
It was by accident. Dave cut a slit into the little green amp with a razor blade out of frustration with he and his girlfriend's relationship situation, and that provided the distortion.
Nobody loves Dave more than I do. Distorted guitar became popular in R&B in 1948-1951. For instance, this is from 1951, go to 0:54. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1P5Z64HrNho.html This is from 1935, yes 1935, go to 1:47. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GNO_ev8bCcc.html
Jones is a natural interviewer/host. Jones has all the right traits to make the show a pleasure to listen to. Jones is especially entertaining when the guest is British. Jones should get the Golden Mic award. Check out the show with Robby Kreiger
His brother sadly took a od dressed as a clown and rang the ambulance or walked in the hospital .the kinks was more uncrazy -no drugs .i love till the end of the day.
"is just unprecedented" At the time of Revolver the Beatles had been listening hard to the Kinks, Byrds, Beach Boys, etc. That's just historical reality. "at the forefront" You sure? Who made "See My Friends" when?
The kinks are in the hall of fame? Proof it's a fucking farce. The kinks have sold half as much as iron maiden, yet IM aren't in there. Any band that is not a metal band can get in. Shit, even Madonna got in and she ain't fucking rock. Until thin Lizzy , Judas priest, iron maiden get in..... It's a joke
This is how two grown men talk. Honestly. Didn't read the book but I like you, mate. Once you get honesty down no one can destroy you, because they don't have anything on you.
I do believe the brawling stories of Dave and Ray have grown a life of their own and agree mostly bollocks. Watch them.. even in 1990's whilst performing together several times in one song they look at one another and smile. In most pics of original band..who is standing stand by side...Ray & Dave. They're two different personalities Ray was only boy in family with several older sisters..then Dave came along. Boys will be boys. Loads of stories over decades are embellished by media.
I produced shows and worked with the Kinks in the late 70's. They were great people, not just musicians, but great to spend time with as genuine good people. I did over 40 shows with various artists. These guys are still to this day a stand out. Was a great experience in my life.
The most underrated Guitarist of all time. This is the guy that almost single-handedly INVENTED modern Rock and Roll, while everyone else was doing pop love songs. First guy to turn it up and first guy to incorporate feedback.
