My dad's a jazz musician, never liked jazz much but when my dads band performed this with some of the best musicians in the UK, I was mesmerized, still listen to this one song all the time, fascinated me at 16 and still does at 44
@@carolineward5153 Ummmm, good point, Caroline! Why we should appreciate all beautiful things, not just music, while we're here. "Mountain Dance" is the theme from the film, "Falling in Love" starring Merryl Streep and Robert de Niro, made back in the 1980s - before Corona virus was on the world's radar. I love the film too, bit dated by today's standards, but still enjoyable. See it if you get the chance.
I listen to this jazz masterpiece at at the University of Tulsa in the 80’s at KWGS with a DJ named “Aurora” studying at McFarlin Library. Incidentally i married a girl named Aurora at another university across town at ORU. I eventually left TU and chased the girl of my dreams. Every time i hear this song i think about chasing the girl of my dreams while listening to KWGS at TU. Thank for the memories Dave. This is bookmark for me in the 80’s. I love this compilation from one of the great Jazz recording artist from GRP of his time. 35 years later I’m still chasing the girl i married in the 80’s. Long live Dave Grusin!
At the end of 1980 when I was 17 years old, I bought a cassette of this album. After listening to it many times, I gifted it to my girlfriend. We love it to this day, even though we're not together anymore. It's really a sweet memory. It turns out I found the cassette again in 2002 in my parents' ouwarehouse even though it was damaged. Very uch thank you GRP
I remember where I was the first time I heard Mountain Dance. Marie Lloyd House (block of flats), Hoxton, in our living room, standing still, transfixed in front of the radio. I totally get the love for Dave Grusin.
I remember when Iam buying the cassette for this album in 1981, when I was in high school. I'm sedated by this music. I really memorized every note of every song on this album. With my savings, I introduced this music to many of my school friends. GRP so my next stamp for buying tapes. Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, and his colleagues are my favorite musicians. Owsome ! Until next comes Bob James, Four play ...
Best Jazz Music ever. Missing all my peers with whom I enjoyed it in the 80s. The likes of Bob James, Groover Washington Jnr and Tiko Riko readily come to mind. A Jazz Masterpiece indeed!
Nothing evokes such feelings like a great piece of music like this. The music in general is one of the most beautiful gifts we received from the Creator.
Was having dinner in a restaurant in Santa Fe years ago and this guy walked in and sat down at their grand piano and started playing... guess who? Needless to say I ordered dessert and stalled as long as possible before giving up the table. Love this song!
My dad's an avid Jazz fan and this song used to come on the local jazz station when I was a child. Appropriately, we lived in a mountainous area and needless to say this song brings back a lot of positive memories for me. I just can't stop listening to it! Dave Grusin is a great musician!
I can still recall 20yrs back, when i was with a band called the Royal priesthood Organization led by Sunny Obawumi. Each time we play this JAZZ in any function, we are always at the top. Respect to Dav Grusin
God knows how many years I have been listening to Dave Grusin (I have just about everything he has recorded), and still, he amazes me to this day. What a stonking solo on this track. His musicality is just up there, buzzing with Rhythm and superb melodic ideas.
Music makes me cry too. Sometimes it's so haunting it makes me feel like I'm in a far away land. Am I alone in this.. I wish I had ppl in my life that liked it with me ..
Superlative...takes me years back as a kid. I heard this...I remembered by dad...I associate this piece with him. Though I had no idea of the beauty of this wonderful composition then... Thank God he is still very much around
How DAVE blends the classical styles & vibe with Jazzy Swing style improvised solos … over some infectious rhythm , beat & changes Very nice dynamics …. 🙏🏽
The first time I heard Dave Grusin's Mountain Dance I couldn't stop dancing. I absolutely fell in love with the song. I love it more now that I've seen it on Video.
