Just heard this song for the first time a few days ago. Have listened nonstop ever since. Now I need to go to that live version.

They’ve been playing it live for last couple tours. They replaced the trumpet solo with keyboards. Not as good. Not even close. I’ll agree…it’s a major miss.

Meh. I've never thought the trumpet belonged in DMB's sound. Adding a brass section to "replace" Leroi's woodwind was always a mistake. The inclusion of any trumpet was poorly conceived and frankly an insult to Leroi.

@@MrDth79 Rashawn was full time with the band for like two years before Leroi passed and most of the 06 break frees had trumpet. so i'm not sure what you mean by replace.

I'm guessing this is 50/50 as to 2006 vs 2021-22 recordings.

It's good. Don't miss out. The rest of us "real fans" are digging it.

I've seen these guys live MANY times and I live in Canada and had to travel long distances and through the border to see them at the Gorge!. I have learned how to play MOST of Dave's songs on guitar (properly, which most guitarists can't even do!) actually this song Break free in particular I retuned my acoustic and taught myself to play it like Dave does, note for note, but in a different tuning!, because he uses a Baritone guitar that is tuned different, and I do not have one!. Did you know that?? (a "real fan" would!), I became a drummer because of Carter's drumming, I started a recording studio of my own because of my love for music and this band. I created my own originals band and had people compare my style to Dave Matthews!, so I hardly believe you could possibly be more of a "real fan" than I have been over the decades!. I was simply stating that THIS album was a let down, because as a "REAL FAN" I already have heard all these songs many times, and I was hoping for an album of actually NEW material!. If we sat down together and did DMB trivia, played songs, and compared who knew every lyric to every song of theirs, I GUARANTEE you I'd come out on top as the "real fan" vs you!. the majority of my phone is DMB and I have EVERY album including their old torrent pirated stuff with rare live songs that were never released, such as the Lillywhite sessions!. So please don't insult my intelligence, nor my appreciation of this band implying that I am not a "real fan"!?. This album was a HUGE let down, and I stand by my words as a "real fan" since the start!. It's only 32 mins of music, the 3 new songs are super short, and the rest of them are already on several of their live albums and performances!. I feel it's a waste of money to simply hear what I have heard before, never mind the fact that most of their songs live are better than studio songs they do anyways!. So if you were a "real fan" you'd know what I am talking about!. I have lived and breathed and followed every step along the way with this band, so if anything I am one of the few "real fans" that has the right to say what I have said!. DMB albums are the ONLY albums I EVER have looked forward to, there is no other band I have EVER looked forward to or spent good money on to support!. So I stand by what I said!. If you have a problem with it, tough!!.
