The groove around 36:16 is from another planet *.* It's so good that the girl in the background had to videocall her friend so she could witness this magical moment
Much respect for creating something with samplers and synths that sounds awesome and a lot more solid than many DJ sets. I know from experience that this is a very difficult thing to do!
Damn bro this is really good. I play live acid techno and know how hard it can be to pull this off. You’re killing it. Transitions are flawless. Great work here. Love it.
Seriously the only refreshing and original sounding techno I'm finding these days. Everything else sounds cookie cuter and plastic. Your sounds are very organic, thick, and unique! Keep it up buddy!
Wow i love this set, i downloaded and process it, so as to listen to it like downtempo, i like it a 80s and also at 100s bpm. Nice synthesis, sound from cero, great work! Real, authentic tech house, dubby, groovy.
Super deep techno set Dave. Slowly evolving with superb mix out. Damn. The sound just perfect. How is OT implemented in this. Looks like DT / DN still manage the show. Really enjoyef the set. Great to see you back doing live shows!👍🏻 29:00 + just elevates the set to and it goes supersonic )
Thanks for this lovely comment Mike :). Yeah the OT took a bit of a backseat in this particular set because I only had 40 minutes. Normally when I get to play 1.5 hour or more i use it a lot more. It contains grooves as well plus then I use it as a creative slicer looper to add rhythmic atmospheres. In this set it mostly provided extra rhythmic elements from grooves I created in it.
thank you for the superb set! been watching your videos on the digitakt too. I have always been more into synthesis than sampling, but your videos got me really interested. you got me throwing my zoom recorder into my bag with me everywhere I go now. so much fun to try out new sounds, and throw them into a sampler. you never know what you're gonna get. thanks Dave!
Awesome to hear this! Thanks for your wonderful message 😊👍🏻 yeah I still enjoy the sampling process a lot. It takes work but it's so very rewarding. Monthly sample hunter video from now on :)
Will probably create a video of it in the future. In a few weeks I'll release a video showing how I've created my current case including connections etc. So that's a start :)
Fantastic work! Some really lovely grooves going on throughout. I just bought an Octatrack. Still learning but I love the workflow. Hope I can get to the stage where you are one day and be able to play my own work for an hour or two!
this set and all other content I've seen here so far is awesome! keep up what you're doing! helped me when buying my new xone 96 (I was pretty sold on the thing already, but you gave me the confidence to drop that load of money^^)
Thanks ! I use it as a texturizer for Live Loops (record into buffer and it creates new rhythms on the fly) and some extra percussion (mostly hihats and rides)
Great set! I have been back to listen a few times. Can I ask why the need for both your Octatrack and the Xone db4? I have seen your tutorial on how you use it for FX, Loopers - but is there a huge benefit to having the db4 when the Octa already allows for mixing and looping itself? Managing and updating my own semi portable setup so just interested in why you think it's worth the size footprint :)
Thank you! So in this set im not using the octatravk like I normally do because it was such a short set. But the octatrack has multiple functions. Itl use it as a groove box and as a live looper. The reason I use db4 and not octatrack is because the db4 is completely unique in its own way. For starters it's more one knob per function so really quick to work with. It has an input matrix that enables me to route any input to any channel on the fly. It has a looper per channel and dedicated FX per channel, plus HP+LP per channel that you can set pre or post FX. FX are able to be set pre/post fader as well as the one/of. That, plus 2 dedicated multimode master filters. It also has a very clean high end sound. That is it in a nutshell :). Plus it enables me to use the octatrack as a groove box plus complex live looper. I am going to create a video about this by the way
@@Davemech fair enough and thanks for taking the time to give such a comprehensive reply! I think the more knob per function approach of a traditional mixer sounds like a justification in and of itself. Again, brilliant set! Keep it up
@@happylittlesynth not just that actually :). In this setup I used the headphone cue to send channels to octatrack for live looping / mangling and fx. It’s what octatrack is incredibly good at :). So it provides extra layers based on what I send it. Bit hard to explain in a little message
Finally ramping up again to play live after time off since the birth of my son last year. Started a new project called Control // Modify with a mate playing fully improvised sets. We want to play live as much as possible so keep an eye on my Instagram page and that of control.modify :). Cheers !
@Davemech congrats with your son and good to hear you are still active. Will keep an eye out, your music is what I appreciate in the sets of speedy j and chris liebing, and beyond. Edit: and pushkarev
really nice session, love the style and the bpm speed. have you change anything in your routing or is it similar to your "old" setup (2x digitakt 2x digitone) as I can see you are also using an Analog Heat
Thanks :) Pretty much the same. DT connection to DN is the same. Octatrack functions as groove machine and live looper. Though didn't use it as much during this set because I only had 40 minutes. Cheers
Did you use any kind of sidechain-compression or just the midi-lfo trick (e.g. automating the track-volume)? How was the monitoring? I see, you used some in-ears?
No sidechain compression as it's not available. A combination of amp volume plocking, internal LFO modulating amp volume indeed and digitally midi track's LFO modulating amp/delay/reverb volume for example. In ear monitoring yeah. Most places the monitoring is quite bad and I really need to hear every detail. The great thing with in ears is that I get to feel the sub from the club system and hear every little detail in my ears as well :)
