Thanks for always being there for me Dave, in my darkest hour I wasn't alone because of you. And I'm alive today because of that.
Wait till you listen to it, Not Too "Perfect". Unless you're looking for a smackdown of Dave Mustaine (which isn't supposed to be the purpose of an interview)
Saw Megadeth open for Sabbath a few years back. Sadly, they only had an hour to play. The entire arena was chanting for Megadeth and you could see Dave was a bit taken back. After their first song, he grabbed the mic and said "We aren't gonna talk, we are just gonna play for you crazy bastards!" They went wild for the rest of the show. Was amazing.

Question. Didn't homie get kicked off the group? I read off a book that Metallica before they were famous and all kicked Dave off without even telling him why. He packed up and dipped afterwards.
@@sammygaudino8906if he was such a mess, how was he able to write most of the guitar parts for kill ‘em all and a few parts of ride the lightning? Dave sounds like a very centered and self-aware individual. Just thankful to be alive and to have led the life he has. So refreshing to hear a celebrity talk like this.
@@stephenmeredith4128 Dude the experience if not will make you bitter. He is more than a lead guitarist he is a contributor and he wrote some of their songs. Not to forget he is the father of thrash metal. Thanks to bitterneas Megadeth was born the best thrash metal band ever.
Growing up as a Jehovah Witness teaches you Morals and respect. Unless you have been to their Halls and meetings and observed what they are taught, don't bother commenting. They are very aware people trying to mimic Jesus teachings. They saved my Life i know.
He has probably had greater success with Megadeath than be would have staying with Metallica. I say that because they may have controlled his input on future songs so that Hetfield and Ulrich make most of the money off royalties. He's the mastermind and chief songwriter in Megadeath obviously it's his band.
@El Mango James is one of the best rhythm guitar players ever, I really wouldn’t say “light years.” James is the riff god; Dave could never come up with them himself.
@El Mango “best” doesn’t mean who can wank at their instrument like some dork. No one attacks the riff with the same level of ferociousness as James. Lol@you saying James didn’t write the majority Kill Em All. Not even delusional Dave would say that 🤣
@@MrShanester117 according to you, and literally nobody else. Killing is my business, so far so good, peace sells, rust in peace, countdown to extinction, youthanasia, and dystopia. That’s a hell of a lot more than one good album.
Rest assured I just seen him perform a couple days ago; no headbanging but his voice was better than ever! Age has really refined his voice. I've seen him several times.
I think the fact that Metallica being so successful and then Dave starting MegaDeth speaks volumes about how good Dave was even back 40 years ago. Not to many people can say they were apart of 2 major bands ever let alone at 20.
Les Claypool also had the same result when he tried out for Metallica but he ended up being overqualified I guess you could say . He was light years beyond them when it came to talent as well .
Yeah they told him "You better get your act together. If you get kicked out you'll never be this successful again. You'll never be in a band as big as Metallica" (paraphrased) he gets kicked out and forms his own bad that was as big as metallica.
@@raymondkidwell7135 they didn’t say that, lol WTF are you taking about? They just kicked him out and gave him a bus ticket, go! He lived off the royalties of his co-writer credits. He’s been living in Metallica’s shadow ever since.
Dave is the biggest personality to come out of Metallica, he’s a living legend, one of the forefathers of thrash. Metallica is known as four guys, when you think of Megadeth, you think of Dave Mustaine .
@@markandersen793 And maybe David Ellefson, hes being with Dave since Day 1 as well and hes a great Bassist player, but Dave its better than him musically speaking. They both legends anyways. Grammy winners and top chart metal/rock music sellers.
@@maruzencentral besides Metallica songs, what Cliff has played that puts him up there as the greatest Bassist? People praise Burton,I just want to understand why?
it was his style of playing that puts him up there. he kinda kicked down the door for a new way for bass to be used in rock/metal/etc. thick basslines were prevelant in funk going back to sly and the family stone, but in rock/metal, it was just kind of the underline for the song. they'd do some melodic stuff and counter melodies and interesting stuff to add layers, most of the time they just mirror the root of whatever the overlying chord structure is in whatever inversion it may be, but cliff was playing it more like a lead guitarist would play. really intricate flowing lines undercutting songs. and that impact and how it affected metallica's songwriting even after his passing left a lasting impact on all of metal music even though he was only in the industry for.... what 2 years? that's not something many bassists can claim, let alone guitarists.

I've always been a Metallica guy, but discovered 'em late...in '96. Learned about the history with Dave, and always had a certain perception of him which was biased, to a degree. I can see he's a guy of remarkable intellect, and throughout his conversation with Rogan exudes a very low-key humbleness. Very impressive dude.
I think Dave's made a much bigger impact on music and imprint on society now than he ever would if he had stayed just a cog in the Metallica machine. I'm super happy for him.

He's grown up so much and honestly I'm so proud of him. He could have fizzled out and died in a ditch somewhere but he's still out here kicking butt at 60 which is wild. Much respect Mr. Mustaine
That was a dum assumption on Rogan's part but he's also not really into all of this so I understand. I immediately knew what Dave was referring to, I know he does not care about the whole leaving Metallica thing, why would he be said about it...
I bumped into Dave at an ATM in Scottsdale, AZ years ago. Such a friendly and approachable dude. This was before the selfie days and all that BS. I didn't even get an autograph and never told anybody for the longest time that I met him. Just a cool moment for an old fan... that out of pure chance met one of his metal heroes.

Yeah it was like 40 years ago. Dave Mustaine used to be angry all the time as a kid because of problems in his life. Now he isn't angry anymore. He just sits back and enjoy life. You can't think about all the things that happened a long time ago.
I’m really happy for him that he’s in a place now where he has made peace with his past with Metallica. It seems like all throughout the 80s and 90s he couldn’t get through an interview without taking some shot at them, which is ridiculous, because Megadeth has always been a great band in their own right. He’s done huge things that most musicians only dream of.
Most overrated person in metal history. Famous for once hanging out with James and lars. If Megadeth was so great they wouldn't be opening for five finger death Punch.
Hes so chill i feel bad people always want to pester him about the lows of his life instead of the highs. Much respect for being an amazing artist and just a good person in general.
What a walking testimony this man is. I remember him back in the 80’s - a total bad - ass; super charismatic, dangerous. I wasn’t a metal guy; but I always thought Megadeth were cooler than Metallica ( again, I wasn’t a metal fan- ) I just thought he has a personal charisma that I could relate to. And to hear him now, and how he articulates himself and what he values now is a beautiful demonstration of the power of God; when one is humbled enough to listen. Thanks for this.
When you are young, rich and have sex and drugs all day long its easy to lose scope and focus of your real self, he needed decades to finally get onto the right path but he is now and hes a religious man which is surprising considering he was into voodoo and black magic back in the 80's and early 90's, I dont know exactly when he found God but that was his motor to get out of that self destructing pit and thats commendable. Besides that hes a great fucking musicial way better than any other Tallica members (maybe on par with Cliff Burton) and his Ex Megadeth bandmates (Maybe on par too with Marty Friedman and Kiko)
@@cheknecht3092 38 million says you're wrong. He's doubled Slayer's sales, and not far behind Judas Priest, mostly playing thrash metal that pushed the boundaries for its time. Pretty fucking good going tbh.

What are your thoughts on the hundreds of different members of Megadeth? Must be exhausting to stay loyal to a band when you know each member could be axxed any second.
Big Mustaine fan, this guy is just so interesting and incredible and has definitely left his stamp on heavy metal as arguably the singular most important individual to live as it relates to heavy metal, having started Metallica and Megadeth, with his influence on at least 2 early Metallica albums and of course all of Megadeth. Every time I hear Dave play the guitar I imagine James and Kirk’s reaction to hearing him play. You know their blown away. Incredible musician! Much love for Dave and Megadeth.

@@blakesweeney1023 Oh c'mon not again! His solo on Unforgiven is pretty nice but other than that, most of Kirk's playing is pretty pentatonic based and predictable. Hell listen to Marty's solo albums: Dragons Kiss, Scenes. Listen to the Singles: Night, Tibet Angel, Valley of Eternity, Undertow. Marty's playing feels very holistic, deep and memorable. While Kirk's is not.

Dave Mustaine was one of the older members of Metallica too, along with Cliff Burton. James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich would have been 17-18 years old when the wrote and recorded Kill Em' All and then only 20 years old when they released and toured Ride the Lightning internationally not long after.
