Chunky chips DONE RIGHT are superior. Unfortunately not many places in the UK know how to do them properly.

I love the Stonehenge chips at the end lol. Done right, ie, not greasy and soggy, dry, crisp and fluffy inside chunky chips are very nice as a treat, I think they are nicer than thin chips because they are often way too crispy with those weird pointy dark bits on the end that hurt your throat if you swallow them lol.

Frankly, if you do a heavier cut of fry (chip), you SHOULD also do a longer cook. It’s a fair bet though that they generally don’t.

I'm with Dave on this. English chip shop chips are awful. Soggy, often raw. In Australia they cook chips crisp outside, fluffy inside. Delicious. Why don't English fryers do this? It's not hard to do.

If you like chunky chips you will love boiled potatoes even more. I just don't see the difference. The one thing I hate more that chunky chips are the people that when you are down the pub and someone in the group goes oooooooo chunky chips!!! At that point I realise I'm hanging with the wrong people. But they are popular. I find it baffling. At least crinkle cut chips make an effort to create a higher surface are to volume than normal. Even worse is when the kitchen can't be arsed to peel potatoes so they jump on the bandwagon of making something worst seem better.
