All I could think about watching this was how much better the news was in the 90s. Not the story but the reporting, actually going over facts and interviewing people close to the story. Today we would get 1 min of what happened followed by about 48 hours of so called experts trying to spin the story into as many political statements and propaganda as possible. Good job 1990's
Ryan McCracken I stopped watching any and all MSM since 2007. It sickens me that I cannot get it removed from my cable choices.. If I lived alone I would not have cable.
At the time, CNN had no competition and could just report news. When the competitors came along they started beating CNN by adding opinions and so-called experts. CNN had no choice but to do the same.
@BenchPressManiac he means getting a understanding on why people where they way they where and how it happend so fast. Only storytelling like movies could do that. Here we just information on deaths and updates on the standoff. The movie shows how fucked up John was and how the wrslters kinda of enabled it or just thought it was john being john. The movie is really a good watch
***** He was mentally ill and he had issues. He needed help. It's kinda sad when you hear how sad, lonely and pathetic he was. Also I read he had lost his balls when he young from a horse accident and that can really mess up a man mentally.
I think everyone is down playing the influence of hard drugs and alcohol. It's no mystery, dude was just high and paranoid, something was bound to go wrong for him sooner or later. People are making this seem more complex than it really is.
Oh my god at the beginning that is the most absurd, ridiculous shit ever when the police are just "waiting for him to come out". So a guy kills someone and then runs away and holes himself and the cops don't bust down the door, on the grounds that "he isn't hurting anybody". More like, well he's a billionaire so we knock first. I mean, tell that to all the people who get their doors knocked in for nonviolent crimes. I mean not only did the guy just kill someone but he's still armed and you're "just gonna wait for him to come out". Wtf
Yes they played it perfect. What difference does it make? They knew they could out wait him and he'd have to come out. They knew this guy had guns in the house. Why risk getting someone killed when you don't have too?
They don't know if he got bombs or what.. He was a rich mf that had military shit with machine guns cause his family made parts for the military so yes that is smart not to just kick in the door..are you really that dumb ? You volunteer to kick the door on the next raid.. Bet you wouldn't.. Be all scared pissing yourself saying can't we just wait him out ?
@@thoughtcriminal7036you mean where they waited like over a month ? They tried to wait them out, they wasn't coming.. Again teby waited like over a month or some shit.. Know your facts before saying shit smh geez you ppl are weird
From what everyone said who was close to him - Dave Schulz was a great human being and a fierce competitor. It’s a shame he’s gone- he definitely would be coaching at some wrestling powerhouse university right now.
DuPont treated Foxcatcher like his own private zoo. By building a couple of fancy facilities and getting the Schultz family to reluctantly move in, he thought that US wrestling belonged to him. He even thought he could become a world-class competitor himself in his 50's! Truth is that he took a massive dump on the sport and this was long before he killed Dave Schultz...all of the wrestlers were treated like fucking gerbils from day one
I watched the movie Foxcatcher yesterday at cinema and now I am very curious about the story. When John Du Pont shot Dave Schultz I was just 12-years-old and in Italy, the country I used to live in, the episode did not have much audience. Sometimes the reality is more charming and disturbing than fiction.
Very telling at the end when the officer explained that Du pont helped the local police department with equipment. Once you get that kind of help I bet you will not look into things to much.
Ristomatti Kolsi wow he's good too, heard he was up for the Kazakhstan best actor acting like an actor award but lost out to Nemo in return of the flounder!!
He killed a man but the cops said he's not putting anyone in danger. If this were u or i, the cops would have blew the roof off of the building to get us out...
I always find it interesting that wives were not allowed to give evidence against OR for their husbands (I know this doesn't apply in this case but the wording in the beginning made it seem like it was Du Pont's wife they were talking about although I am sure he wasn't married) It makes sense because a wife may want to get rid of her husband for reasons others don't know or of course she may lie for him, especially if he is her only financial support. Conversely she may know she'd inherit his money if he was executed. And yet I can't find any evidence that this rule applied the other way around.
How did he have all those guns, in the movie he was trying to buy a military vehicle but had a baby fit when it did not come with a .50 caliber on it he had ordered.
ideals can be great and very dangerous..........they create slaves if you're not careful. any ideology is not immune. probably a very nice person..............wanting great things............but sometimes those things can destroy you if you're no careful ..
THE PRESTIGE..........."but hasn't good things come from your obsessions?. yes, at first, but now i am their slave, and one day they will choose to destroy me"..........so very true.
I'm not sure how accurate the end of the movie was, but when DuPont pulled the gun his security guard was sitting right next to him in the car and did nothing to stop him. He even pulled his weapon and let DuPont pause for a few moments before firing 3-4 more shots, all while he just sat there. A trained security agent who just sat there and did nothing to protect an innocent mans life? That coward was an accessory to murder.
In an interview with Kurt angle ,who trained on the fox catcher ranch, he stated that du Pont point the weapon at the security guard as well after the first shot..so that's when he got out and went to the back of the car
StevieMac! Absolutely I agree. Shultz was shot 3 times. His security guard should have pulled the gun out of his hand when he aimed the first time and for sure when he fired at David Shultz. whether he was afraid to lose his job if he took the gun out of Du Pont's hands or was he a coward I consider him at fault. There is no way of telling but he could have saved David life after the first shot.
Tyrion Lannister Thanks, that makes more sense. I couldn't understand how a trained security agent would just sit there while Du Pont just casually killed a man. Still, a very tragic event.
Lee Tamer From what I gathered, the director wanted the films ending to emulate real life. The murder and coverage happened out of nowhere and the the whole thing ended as fast as it came. I think it captured the spirit of the event well.
Watching this is so chilling. Really anyone could have been in this situation. When you have a guy who's so rich throwing money at you and supporting your career, most of us would put up with a lot to continue getting that support. But right when he started carrying a gun around, I would have been GONE.
That's a lie police man..hell he was supplying the military..The only reason he got2 and a half days, got out of there alive,is because of his money and friendship with the authority's
I really wish Bennett Miller (Director of Foxcatcher) had released the film as he originally had intended with no interference from the studio... had a runtime of about 4 hours.. instead of the version we got which was just 2. and what the film had partially accomplished doing but could have done so much better was the relationship Du Pont had with his mother... what makes the movie so good is how perfectly Miller had nailed the dynamic between Du Pont and the Schultzs, to the point where you literally feel like your a fly on the wall at Foxcatcher farms.. Vanessa Redgrave who plays Du Ponts mother in the film, is a legendary actress so it was obviously the studio who made the mistake..
He bought our department a helicopter, training dogs, bullet proof vests, cars, bikes, tasers, bodycams, but there was no cozy relationship i can assure you
First time I watched Foxcatcher I think had too much to drink beforehand. Didn't quite grip me and some of the building tension between characters escaped me. Rewatching it, I truly loved it. Not a very nuanced performance in this one, but Steve Carrell can act as well as anyone. I hope he gets more opportunities in drama.
These wrestlers knew the risks of living near this nut who owned military grade firearms and armored personnel carrier purchased with trust funds. Truth is stranger. . .
The FoxCatcher was a excellent movie. The actors did a good job but mostly Steve Carrel who played John Du Pont. Everyobe need to watch this movie it's a good movie. ✌✌
Dad had worked for Dupont at the time. The recent situation had at his work been sold to someone else. Dupont was at one time the richest extended families in the United States. In that I mean nearly every Dupont Family member was a multi millionaire. Cousins, Nieces and othrwise were all incredibly wealthy.
He wasn’t wrong about people being there only for his money and who the hell let’s their babies deal with a press conference and listen to those brutal details🤦🏼♀️
This story is proof positive that money can't buy happiness. I'd rather be broke and surrounded by loved ones than a crazy old lonely loon with infinite amounts of money.
